Chapter four - I had to lie

[BETA ZANE]

I'm so proud of my little girl.

Raven has grown into a beautiful young woman.

Only the Moon Goddess herself knows how much I love that kid, how much I want to protect her and her happiness. How sorry I am for being a dirty liar and building her life on a pure lie.

Raven has always seen me as her father figure, yet little does she know what I am, indeed her father.

I had to lie; I didn't have any other option.

I am no Beta, I've never been one and never will indeed be one.

I am an Alpha.

And Raven is my firstborn; she is my heir. The one who will carry on my legacy and take over everything I own.

I do have a pack, which is located only a few hundred miles away from this weak, little pack.

I remember how it happened as if it was yesterday.

Me and my mate, my beautiful, perfect Luna, ruled over the most vicious pack ever, at least, that is how everyone else would see us.

Truthfully, we were one big, happy family. Yes, we did had mighty warriors, but that was just because we kept clean bloodlines and trained our pups at a young age. Therefore goes the "seeing red" legends about our pack; all of us tend to shift at much more early age than other regular wolves. Each pack member had their responsibilities, duty, and place to stay.

The day, when my little Raven was born, was the most fantastic day of mine and my mates life. Pack cheered, they celebrated the birth of their Alphas heir for a week. Everyone, not only us, was happy about her finally coming to this world.

Soon our fairytale came to an end.

Day after day Alphas arrived, first to congratulate us, then to talk about business. One after another, they kept offering their heirs as my daughter's fiancées. We both did reject each offer. My beautiful mate kept repeating that she wants to see our daughter happy, so we will wait until the day when our little bundle of joy will meet her real mate. I agreed with her, and so did my pack. Some doubted me and my power, thinking that I was about to sell my pup away, some rumored that I would do anything to gain as much control as I could, so few did believe that I could give away my little girl just for a good offer. That was the reason why more and more Alphas tried to get in contact with us.

Then came the "good offer." Almost everyone was sure that I couldn't resist it. Not my pack, other packs. My wolf pack stood by my side, no matter what the decision was, yet deep down their heart, they knew that I would never give up on my blood.

That's when Alpha Valentino arrived. His son, then, was seven years old. Extremely capable pup, if I may add.

The offer, of course, was tempting. As Valentino's pack was located next to ours, back then, he wanted to join the forces after our kids would marry. Yet, I didn't see any good in it, as my territory was twice as big as his, and my pack was way stronger, so I refused his offer, and he left in anger. Soon after, rogues attacked one after another. They first came alone, then in groups, and afterward, the hunters joined their forces.

Raven was four years old back then. Our pack fell in love with her since day one, and love grew stronger by each day; she was our little sweetheart.

I had to leave for quite a while, to make sure that nobody would try to attack and kill my family again. Time passed, year after I returned. My Luna has been keeping everything the way I left it; she made me proud. No matter how we tried, attacks didn't stop. So we decided to fake mine and Raven's death.

As my daughter hasn't seen me so long, she didn't recognize me, that was a huge plus. I made a deal with my best friend to stay in his pack until Raven would turn 18. We have a week until we will return home. A week until I'll see the love of my life. A week until Raven will find out the truth.

She will hate me for lies I've told; I know she will.

But I don't regret a thing.

I've kept my baby girl safe.

I've kept my Luna safe.

I've kept my pack safe.

I've trained my daughter the best I can. She is the strongest she-wolf warrior I've seen so far. I wouldn't tell her that she's the best here, but deep down, she should know that. This pack, where we are hiding, it has lost its strength and power since little power-hungry brat destroyed everything.

I've kept quiet for way too long. She might have an agreement with the council, but she doesn't have it with my pack or me. After we get back, where we belong, we will strip her from the rank; she took by lies and force. I must sound evil, yet it will be for the better, not for us, but the pack. They deserve to be treated as a family, to be respected, not treated like a speck of dirt. Marie is a dumb little girl, and I can't wait to take her title away and lower her to Omega. That's what she deserves for killing her parents. She has to be thankful for me keeping her alive.

"We're going home," I whispered and sighed. I've been waiting for this so long. I will finally see my mate again, and Raven will meet her mother.
