Her feet were dying for a rub. She couldn’t wait to get home and ask Barbara to give them some good squeezes to get the blood flowing again. It wasn’t easy to walk around in four-inch shoes all day. It wasn’t her fault, left to her, she would wear flats but she didn’t buy her shoes, clothes, bags or accessories herself. She just gave her stylist her credit card and she saw what she bought via her bank. Fortunately, her stylist was an honest woman, just like Barbara. Jean worked Monday to Sunday most of the time and she walked in heels throughout. She never removed her shoes in the car because she considered it unladylike but at that moment, she could have killed that chauffeur if he didn’t get that car into her estate as soon as possible. She picked up the car phone and told him not to worry about speeding tickets because she would pay them all. Thankfully, she was home in ten minutes.

She had hired Barbara as a professional masseuse for just her feet. She stayed for hours while she slept just massaging her feet. Because she stayed late into the night, she slept in Jean’s house before going home the next morning. Barbara was an elderly Puerto Rican lady with the finest of hands and the sweetest of smiles. She hardly ever liked people but Barbara, she adored; she often sang Jean to sleep while she rubbed her feet and her dreams were always sweet ones, very much unlike the nightmares she used to face before. She never explained anything to Barbara and it pained her but she could not open that part of herself to anyone on this earth.

Work was her solace and relaxation came only once in a while when she felt her entire system would break down at any moment. Those were moments when her mind would leave her body and her concentration would be entirely broken. Times when she could barely walk and speech became difficult.

On one of such nights when Barbara was called, a maid came to inform her that a letter had arrived from work. She knew what it was immediately; all the information Peter Oaks, her P.A got about new technologies that would be useful in her factories were sent to her house so she could put them into immediate effect. This mail specifically asked that the best electrical engineering company to be found must be used for this project because it was something that should be handled with utmost care and professionalism. She immediately called Peter and asked him to put a call through and fix an appointment for her with the best electrical engineering company he could find. She trusted him to do his work well as he always did.

As her feet were being rubbed, she thought of the project at hand and the sensitivity attached to it. The contents of the letter seemed to call out to her to be careful about it. It was a feeling in her guts and she always trusted her guts. Twenty minutes later, she got a text message from Peter saying that her appointment was fixed at ten the next morning with the CEO of Electro Electrical Engineering Company. She was thrilled that it had happened so fast and she couldn’t wait to seal the deal as she knew she would. Confidence was a key to her life; that was how she achieved the things she did in such a short time range. She never thought of the odds, she just went for it and never looked back. It seemed like God was on her side supporting her the whole way.
