The beginning.
Elenora's POV
I am late. Very late. I've only been working at Milton Inc for two weeks and I'm already late to a board meeting.
I try as much as possible to organize myself as I walk briskly into the main hall. Kerry is waving at me to come over but I only give her a quick wave.
I am late and uncomfortable. As usual, I buy a dress online that turns out to be two sizes small, a bad idea considering the fact that my curves can hardly breathe in the dress.
And it is killing me, it's like I am about to explode through the seams of the dress and honestly I cannot wait for my lunch break to get out of this cruel abomination even if it means I miss lunch. I should have returned the dress but of course they had a no return policy that I must have overlooked.
I'm racing towards the elevator before it closes and silently praying that Jeff isn't in the board meeting before I am.
Jeff is like my boss. He's the head of the IT department so I guess that makes him my boss but he's also a dick. He is constantly picking on me and I've only been here like two weeks. And he revels in it. I can't retort back at him because he's my boss. That's the only thing saving him.
"Wait wait!!! Please hold it!!"
I plead as I finally make it through the elevator.
"Elenora?" Will from accounting stares at me and I nod my head.
"How's it going?" I ask as I give him a short wave.
"I'm good. I haven't seen you in a while though"
I shrug lightly.
"I've been around. What have you been up to?"
"Same old. Don't you have a board meeting right now?" Will asks with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes I do. In fact I'm rushing there right now" I reply while patting my watch.
Will gives me another one of his smiles that looks like he's sorry for me and also confused. I give him a thumbs up and rush out to my floor as soon as the elevator doors opened.
The minute I'm on my floor I'm rushing to the boardroom in quite an impressive speed and then suddenly I'm jerked back suddenly.
I turn around to see Jeff's burly hand on my arm. How did I miss him? And why is he holding my arm? Are the questions that run through my mind as I give him a nervous smile and wiggle my arm out of his grip.
"I can assure you I am on my way to the board meeting. You should have seen the traffic today, it was unbelievable... "
Jeff raises a hand and I stop mid sentence. I really hope I don't get reported to HR. Being fired is the last thing I need.
"The Boss wants to see you" he says in a clipped tone.
I don't understand. Jeff Burke is the boss. Well, of my department.
"The CEO of the company" he adds with an eyeroll and my eyes bulge.
Why would the CEO want to see me?
Oh shit!!!
So, I spilled coffee on him two weeks ago. On my first day!!
I was coming to work with a cup of coffee rushing as usual because I was late on my first day and this handsome man had bumped into me.
Clearly with the number of gasps in the lounge he must have been important but I really was not expecting it to be the CEO of the company.
I tried to wipe it off, but his protocol officers as they are called stopped me. That was the first and last time I've seen him.
Did he just remember that he has to punish me?
"Ms Wilson. We don't have all day. You still have the board meeting to go back to so I suggest you make it snappy" Jeff snaps.
"Right away sir" I reply absent mindedly.
I take the elevator all the way up. To where the CEO's office is. My palms are sweaty and I am nervous.
This is what happens when you are a clumsy oaf. I will do my best to apologize. Maybe I'd throw in the fact that my sister is dying from a rare disease and we need money for her new drug treatment and surgery and of course our medical insurance won't cover that.
The CEO's floor is spacious and filled with less people. Way less people. I walk towards the receptionist desk and it's Lauren from lunch.
She smiles at me widely.
"Mr Hamilton's office is that way." she says as she gives me a thumbs up.
Wow it's like everyone in the company knows that I'm seeing the CEO. I bet the girls would bug me about it during our lunch break.
I find a corner office with a leggy blonde standing next to it. She must be the CEO's secretary. Her long legs are left on display as her short skirt draws higher and higher as she moves. The dress code rules must be non existent on the CEO floor.
She looks like a supermodel. Her blonde hair falls ruler straight like a curtain across her face and I love the corn silk strands.
My hair can never be that straight. Not even if I spend the whole day straightening it.
I clear my throat loudly. She looks at me and I shake my head instantly.
That is a terrible botched up nose job. Her nostrils are so slim I wonder how she breaths. She needs to get her money back and be on Botched. Doctor Nassif will definitely do a good job fixing her pig nose.
Her lips are too pouty, in that way that suggests she must have gotten a hell lot of lip fillers in. Obviously she must be paid well as a secretary to have all these done.
She looks at me, really looks at me. Her eyes are surprisingly dark brown. Strange, I expected them to be blue.
"You must be Mr Hamilton's 9:15 appointment. Please go in. He has been waiting for you" she says professionally and adds a small smile.
I feel bad for judging her. She seems like a really nice person.
I take lots of deep breaths before opening the door.
My eyes try not to widen at the enormity of the room and how my apartment living room can siddenly fit in this man's office. And the view is simply spectacular. You can see the whole of New York all the way to the Statue of Liberty.
Everything in the office seems to be made of glass and steel. Unapologetically modern and sleek designs.
I stop my eyes from roaming around and focus on the beautiful man that is sitting on his chair amusingly.
Many will describe Ross Hamilton as a very handsome man. Which I honestly do not doubt that he is.
His dirty blonde hair is styled perfectly and he is clean shaven, except for the little beard he keeps well trimmed. His icy blue eyes are piercing with every stare and his jawline and cheek bone can literally cut through glass.
He gives me a small tense smile.
"Ms Wilson. Are you done gawking" he says the words amusingly.
I I snap back to my senses remembering the reason why I am here.
"Mr Hamilton I am truly sorry for what happened the other time I spilled coffee on you. If that's why I am here I'm promising you that it's never happening again. Really I'm begging you."
He raises his eyebrows surprisingly.
"That's not why you're here Ms Wilson. But your apology is accepted."
I sigh contentedly.
"But then, why am I here?"
I ask meekly and Mr Hamilton smiles he looks at the short man standing next to him that I have failed to notice since I arrived.
The man is short and bald and he is wearing a crisp tailored suit. He looks like a lawyer.
"This is my attorney Phillip Bernstein" Mr Hamilton introduces us as he catches me staring.
Well, I did guess right.
"Nice to meet you Mr Bernstein" I really do not know why I am here. In all my years of working I've never been called to the CEO's office. I thought the human resources department handled the recruitment and any problem that arises with workers in the office.
"Ms Wilson, I know you're wondering as to why you are here. So I will go straight to the point. I need you Mrs Wilson"
Mr Hamilton words makes my mind go off thinking about a hundred and one things. What could he possibly need me for? I work in the IT department of the company, nothing fancy.
"I need a baby Ms Wilson. And you are going to help me" Mr Hamilton states.
A baby?!!!!!
