Chapter Four
Maybe it was just me, but I felt the wind prickle slightly as the door slammed. It was as though my nerves where off the hinges. I knew Castus was back.
The whole house was silent, his birthday would be celebrated at midnight and it was eleven.
Midnight.
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.
The time traveled slowly yet somehow all too fast.
What would happen?
I couldn't imagine.
He was expected to look among the girls and gasp and run over to one who would be declared Luna of pack. Little did they know all they would be getting was a Lunus.
I couldn't be there at the party.
I knew how it would play out. He would find me. Once his senses refresh he'd be overwhelmed by mine and seek me out. And then in front of everyone he would have me by the arm. And then my life would be in danger.
Not because I thought he'd kill me, while he very well may.
It was the rejection that was going to kill me. Slowly yes, but oh so painfully.
I couldn't believe this was happening to me.
I'd been such an avid reader of depressing rejection stories. Fascinated by the intense excruciating pain of heart break. Now I was to experience it first hand.
I know I'd be rejected, there was no doubt in that.
You see I hate Castus, and he hates me. But it's through hate that you learn the most from one another.
Through hate you see their weakness's, their strengths, all their faults and all their burdens. You can see the side of them that had you met under different circumstances you would never come to know.
Maybe that is why enemy's make such good ally's.
Now here was the thing.
I had a plan. Freida would help me.
However I couldn't just not attend the party.
This was your soon-to-be alpha's coming of age ceremony, the day he finally come to greet his mate.
My mother wouldn't just rip my hair out for it she'd full on rip me with her claws. And that wasn't another bruise I needed. Not when what was about to happen was going to cut me much deeper.
You see... I need to make sure he doesn't have a chance to reject me before I leave.
I need to escape, or my death will be inevitable.
Escaping itself isn't too hard. I can just walk out the door, well, maybe not. But if it really stands I can sneak out the window.
If they really pay attention they'll notice my scent running off but that hopefully shouldn't be a problem.
In case I sent Freida to pick up some Lateo spray. She should be back soon. But the minutes that fly by are killing me. Literally.
Still, I make it sound easy.
I have no where to go, no plans, no money.
I'd packed whatever I could find but most of my stuff was at home anyway.
My laptop was at home, most of my clothes. I didn't really have much else.
And the worst part was. If Freida didn't come back in time with the spray. He would scent me out. Even if I ran away. No train could take me fast enough to get away from a newly born alpha of blood.
I sighed, chucking the last of what I could find in the travelling bag she had found in the attic. It was practically empty. It looked pathetic.
God what was I going to do.
Go back home?
There was no way.
I needed to get out of town. Preferably out of the country. Before he reaches me.
I was completely determined. Not to let my heart break. Even though that small snide voice in me, told me repeatedly, it was already broken.
That was it, it was midnight. I heard the door slam as Freida returned. And howl's and growls of congratulations. Happy birthdays. We love you.
My heart was beating so fast it must have hummed like a vibration. The time was killing me.
I needed to get out of here.
He was going to find me.
He was going to reject me.
I was going to be broken.
Once and forever.
I stared at the clock on the wall.
There was a sharp knocking on the door.
I slid the latch and opened it.
"Freida you-"
"Freida is being punished, she came late for the alpha's coming of age. Speaking of which. Why aren't you there. You might be a faggot but we need all the pack paws in there."
"Dale, I can't, I have homework."
"Shut up you retard, the schools been warned, why the fuck are you making excuses?!" He growled.
I shrank back into my room, he took a step inside.
God damn it just what I need.
"What? You forgot to get him a present? He's planning to picking out one of your ribs later so that'll do."
I paled. "G-go a-a-away Dale." I stammered.
"Or what?" He raised a finger to me. "Don't think I haven't been noticing my clothes going missing in my room you trick. I don't want your faggot hands on them." He turned. "Thieving creep." He said as he slammed the door.
I sighed.
Again with the stealing bullshit.
They never learn.
"Better come down stairs before they whip your ass for bunking!" He shouted from down the hall.
I scrunched my head in my hands, trying my damned hardest not to cry. Not now, not more. If I started crying I would never stop, and my eyes where still red and hurting from last time.
There was a much gentler knock on my door this time.
It was Freida.
"Come in." I whispered through a surprisingly croaky voice. "It's open."
She looked down on me as she entered. Her eyes shouting pity of the rawest kind.
"I got caught up."
"You mean before or after you go caught by Dale."
"Before." He sad down beside me and pulled out some pills.
I gave her a confused expression.
"The dealer told me you needed pills to escape your mate, I think you need to take a couple since its an alpha."
"Jesus fuck Freida that's how they hook you on drugs!"
"No, smell it."
I lent in and sniffed at the small white tablets.
She was right. There was no smell. No, it wasn't just a lack of smell, it smelt like there was a smell surrounding it missing. It was less then scentless.
I nodded.
"I hope this works."
"So he hasn't found out yet?"
"No I don't think so, why is that though? Why aren't you surprised?"
She nodded and sat down on the edge of the bed beside me.
"He was born at two in the morning I think, not midnight. So he should find out round about then. I wasn't sure but I think I'm right, you've got time."
I let out a happy sigh.
"Oh thank Luna. Or well fuck her, she got me into this mess. But seriously. That's such a relief. So I can go to the party now or something?"
She nodded.
"Yes... Or we can get that revenge you so wanted... Sven... I'm going to turn eighteen in two weeks, I'll find my mate and be safe then. I don't want to stay here. When I find my mate I'm leaving, we're leaving. If you want, we can get a little revenge before we leave?"
I gasped, then ran over and hugged her.
"Oh no you've been possessed by me! That is to say, the devil. Demons suit you Freida!" I winked and she laughed.
"Have you got a plan in mind? We'll have to be quick. Time's nearly up for Cinderella to run off."
I smiled at her. My eyes visibly dark. I was thinking sneaky thoughts.
"Oh yes. I have a plan."
I grinned.
