Chapter Five

Lilly

The big hall is very quiet and every pack members are like stone statues kneeling on the floor.

I don't know most of these pack members, but I'm pretty sure most of them know or heard about me. After all, I am the infamous trash of the Black Mist Pack.

None dares to answer the Alpha's threatening inquiry. My heart swells by the fact that he is doing this for me.

"Beta." Alpha Lucas calls him. Beta Peters bows to the alpha but completely ignores me. Not that I mind. I am also nervous when I'm near him. Seeing him bow to my mate gives a strange feeling.

"Alpha." Beta Peters answers Alpha Lucas with his dead down.

"Report to me everything." Alpha Lucas says in a neutral voice and expressionless face. Still, his whole aura is demanding absolute obedience.

"Yes, Alpha." The Beta replies. Although Alpha Lucas is just eighteen years old, he commands respect and obedience from the veteran Beta who used to rule this pack. In truth, the Beta even appears to be nervous.

"Alpha, Ms. Lilliana Elkins is senior high school student. Two years ago when she was supposed to shift, her wolf failed to emerge. It was later found out that she does not have a wolf. During the lunch period, the son of Gamma Ryan sensed a whole different aura coming from the door of the cafeteria. Our pack is known to be closed from the outsiders, and every pack members are trained to remember each other's auras. Thinking that there was a trespasser in our territory, he took action and captured the trespasser. Later on, he realized that the person in his hands was Ms. Lilliana. Right after that--"

Beta Peters is still talking when Alpha Lucas raises his hand to stop. Immediately, the Beta stops talking.

"Beta Peters." Alpha Lucas takes one of my hand and hold it firmly. Suddenly, I hear a silent but a sharp intake of breath coming from the audience. I am not sure who did it.

Alpha Lucas keeps his gaze to the beta for a few second and anyone coan tell that Beta Peter's forehead starts sweating like madly.

"This woman on my side is my mate." My mate says in a soft but chilling voice. "Right now, I am doing my best to contain my wolf from having a rampage. But one more nonsensical thing from you anyone of you, I, myself, will gladly let him loose."

Alpha Lucas' voice is both soft and low. But the chill on my spine intensifies ten folds. His eyes is turning darker and darker and I know that his wolf is near. Sensing that it will be a great disaster if that happens, I hold his hand tighter and rub my thumb on his hand. Alpha Lucas' hand visibly trembles for a fraction of a second before he squeeze my hand tighter.

"Continue." Alpha Lucas is visibly more relaxed than earlier. He still wears his expressionless face with murderous eyes, but the killing aura he emits is visibly less.

"Alpha, forgive me." Beta Lucas says as he kneels on the floor. Then, he puts his hand over his chest as his faces my mate.

"We found that Ms. Lilliana was wolf-less two years ago. Our pack takes pride from being the strongest. In our pack, being strong takes precedent over anything else. Our members are required to undertake rigorous training in order to have enough strength to be properly considered members of our pack. It was the very first time for someone who was born from our pack to become wolf-less."

"I was very disappointed and dissatisfied. I wanted to kick her out of the pack, but she was too much involved already. We can not risk sending her out because our enemies might take her and extract information from her." Beta says continuously but with conviction. His eyes never sways away from the Alpha's eyes.

"It was the reason why I made a Beta order over her, to make her unable to look up and meet anyone's eyes. To hide or perhaps erase the shame of our Black Mist Pack."

"You Beta ordered your Alpha's mate, your Luna, to cast down her eyes because you believed she was a shame of the pack, is that true?" Alpha Lucas inquires. Nothing is malicious in the way he conveys his questions. It is like talking to a neighbor about the weather. However, there is something about his soft and calm voice that is more threatening than an army of crazy rogues on the point of attacking.

"If you had banned her out of the pack or killed her, I would had already erased you." Alpha Lucas says. At this moment, I can feel the tense air rise inside the Hall. The fear that the pack members have right now is not the fear of being scolded and punished, but fear for their lives. The Alpha sitting in front of them is dead serious in every little thing she utters. I must be the only person here who is not subjected by his wrath since I can calmly sit in this high chair and see the pack members, who either maltreated me or ignored my existence, kneel on the ground.

A sudden gush of feeling of deja vu comes into my senses and it feel like this kind of situation is something that happened to me before.

Tens of thousands of people prostrating themselves on the ground. Me, standing in an elevated platform, a gust of wind came from the east and from the west turned into a whirlpool in the center of the sky. A strong sense of energy came from the whirlpool and enveloped the people kneeling on the ground.

"Alpha, it is true that my son has done a disservice to our future Luna. However, he acted spontaneously for the safety of our pack. A strange aura was suddenly felt. My son is a pack warrior, and as such, it is his duty to keep our territory safe." The voice of Gamma Richard interrupts me from my thoughts. I feel a bit irritated because of the interference. It feels like I was rudely woken up from a dream. A dream that I want to continue.

"Your son has his own tongue, if he does not want it, he can tell me directly. I can help him get rid of it." Like earlier, a venomous threat is heard from the Alpha's soft and calm voice.

At the back of Gamma Richard is Ron, he is still kneeling but he lifts up his face to look at Alpha Lucas. His eyes are full of indignation, but his demeanor is over all respectful. However, I feel that all of his resentment and displeasure are directed at me. He looks like a kid who is being wrongfully accused of a bad deed.

"Alpha Lucas, I am Ron, the Gamma's son."

"It is true that I inflicted the injuries on Miss Elkins' body. But like what my father said, I did it to protect the pack. That girl did not have any wolf in her, and to suddenly have a strange aura, it seemed that she connived with evil witches in order to bring harm to you and to the pack. I only did what I thought was correct." Ron explains his action.

You wanted to kill me since the first time you saw me. In fact you tried killing me in the morning when you almost choked me to death.

Alpha Lucas merely raises one of his brows. Still, other than that, no expression can be seen in his face.

"I thought that son of the Gamma didn't want his tongue. Now that I heard him, it seemed he also does not want his life." He softly says.

I see how Gamma Richard almost stood up.

"The girl you are referring to is my mate. Be careful on how you talk about her."

"You have eyes but you don't see. The moment you hit her because of your suspicion, you already determined she is a pack member and not a trespasser. But you still continued to bring harm on her." Alpha Lucas softly says as he starts playing with my fingers.

"On top of that, my mate has an older injury on her neck. Which one of you strangled her?"

This powerful Alpha beside me starts sweeping his eyes on each and every pack members. I can visibly see the pack members flinch when his stare directs to them.

"A.. Alpha.. I know what happened." A squeaky high pitched voice is heard in the middle of the gathering. Every head of the pack members turns to see the owner of the voice.

Of course, I know who she is. I will recognize her voice anywhere. Brittany, one of my everyday tormentors.

"Alpha Lucas.. In the morning, it was Ron who suddenly attacked Lilly without any reason. He arrived at the classroom and he seemed to be in a bad mood. Then he just attacked Lilly and strangled her. She almost died but my classmates were able to separate Ron from her." Oh, how fast can she forget her friendship with Ron? Well, at least she is saying the unaltered truth. However, I feel very uneasy when I hear her say my name. She used to have a very colorful vocabulary of names she used to call me. This is the first time I hear her say my name.

Alpha Lucas briefly looks at Brittany then narrows his eyes on Ron again.

A hot energy suddenly is emitted from his hand that I am holding. I can tell that something unpleasant is about to happen. The aura that the expressionless Alpha Lucas emits is deadly.

He can not kill.

I once again heard the voice in my head. What is this voice?

Stop him. He can not kill.

The voice reiterates with urgency. I abruptly stand up from my chair. This startles Alpha Lucas who turns to look at me. I make a few steps in front of him and block his view of the pack members.
