1.8 Back to the past
Three years later...
The driver's door of my father's old red Camaro SS closed with a small creak as I gave it a firm push with the side of my hips, the keys jingling over my index finger as I mindlessly twirled them around.
Humming a classic tune I then walked all the way on the paved path to the entrance of the Summers house, taking off my thick-rimmed shades and hanging them over my t-shirt once I've reached the double wooden doors. Ringing a few times, I then waited for someone to open the door.
No answer.
I even knocked a few times, only to receive the same response. Nothing.
What the hell? Where are these people?
We were supposed to go to school together today!
"Guys? Is anybody there?" I called as I pushed the handle and peered inside, noticing the completely deserted hall.
"Blake?"
"Rick!"
I kept on calling as I eventually stepped inside, looking around.
"Guys, are you even home?" I hollered from the bottom of the stairs before setting my foot on the first step, just in time to hear a loud scream.
What the...
"Blake?" I called after her, already feeling my heart increase its pace as I started climbing two stairs at a time, reaching the second floor in no time.
"Blake!" I called yet again, only to notice Rick exit her room and walking down the hall with Blake hanging over his shoulder, ass up and still wearing her pajama bottoms.
"Put me down or I'll fart in your face," I could hear her grumble from behind his back, my lips expressing an amused smile as I looked at Ricky's relaxed smirk.
"I mean it, man," She added, the man paying no heed as he kept on walking towards me, completely relaxed.
"Okay, you asked for it," She lastly warned, earning a chuckle from me just as I heard her really struggling to get one out.
"Oh my god,"
"Hhhhmmmmph!"
I let out an audible and shocked gasp, bursting into a fit of giggles as the sound of a small fart reached my ears, watching Rick's face quickly contort into a grossed-out grimace at the stinky smell, right before he gave her an audibly painful slap over the ass then threw her on the floor and ran past me and all the way downstairs.
"Oh my god! I'm so gonna kill you! Get back here you bastard!" I watched her angrily get up from the floor and start running after him.
"Guys!"
They chased each other through the house, all the while I simply trailed after them, only to suddenly find myself being used as a shield as Rick had hidden himself behind me and now he was firmly holding onto my shoulders, moving me from left to right as he struggled to defend himself from his wrathful sister.
"Ow," I mildly cried as I stumbled over my own foot, taking a step back as a wild and heavily ruffled Blake lunged towards me.
"Since when did you become so freaking lazy?" I asked her as I took in her grumpy state and crumpled pajamas, all the while forcing myself to ignore the warm feeling of a hard chest so closely pressed against my back.
"Since this idiot won't let me sleep with his stupid, loud movie-watching at freaking three in the morning!" She gritted between clenched teeth while struggling to reach past me and hit him, the feeling of his chuckle vibrating against my back sending a sweet tremor crawling up my spine.
Oh dear god...
I've been dealing with these odd sensations whenever he was around for a while now. But for some reason, I couldn't tell Blake. Not yet anyway.
I quietly gulped as I felt his hands slide to the sides of my waist, trying to act as calm as possible.
"Well, can you please stop this and go get ready so we can go to school already?"
"We're kinda late anyway..."
And I think I'm gonna faint soon...Was what I so wanted to add, yet for obvious reasons, I couldn't.
"Not before I beat the crap out of that asshole behind you!" She growled as she tried to reach him one more time, my lips escaping a loud squeal as I suddenly felt my feet leaving the floor, finding myself cradled in his arms before he took off again.
All prepped up and finally ready after that crazy marathon through the house, we got in the car and drove to school as we were one class late anyway.
"So, are you ready for the date later?" She asked with a cheeky smile as she casually checked the state of her make-up in her phone's reflection.
Oh, yes. The date. The double date I didn't even really agree to go to.
Nope. Not at all.
"Uh, yeah sure," I half-answered, giving her a glance before setting my eyes back on the road.
I didn't even know how did she manage to get in touch with these unknown boys, let alone getting them to go out on a blind date with us.
"So, I've already talked with the boys and we're gonna skip our last two classes so we can go meet them and also get back home in time before Ricky notices," She finished with a giggle whilst scrolling through her phone.
"Yeah, okay," I quietly mumbled, even though I didn't really want to go since our senior year was almost over and we really needed our good grades and an impeccable school situation.
We were going to need them since we were going to apply for college.
Once inside the parking lot, I turned off the engine and got out of the car, reaching to take my backpack from the backseats while Blake did the same.
I then locked it and threw the backpack over my shoulder, tangling my arm with hers before walking to the school's front doors.
We pushed past the double doors and headed to the lockers, noticing the dark-haired male casually approaching us.
"Oh, hey Jake," We both greeted in unison, right before Blake's arm went around his neck as she gave him a peck on the cheek, not missing the way he mildly blushed, as always.
Oh Blake, Blake...
I lightly smiled and shook my head at her obliviousness. Ever since the day she hit him with that locker door, we eventually befriended him and started hanging out at school every day. Unfortunately, she didn't seem to notice the poor guy had a serious crush on her. Ever since day one.
"Hey," He greeted back, moving forward to give me a light hug as well.
"So where were you guys? You missed the first period," He commented as Blake grabbed onto his arm and we resumed to our walking to the lockers.
"Yeah we know," I answered with an eye-roll, recalling the crazy morning we had.
Stuffing my things in the backpack, I then took it out of my locker, glancing around at the gradually emptying hallway.
"Ready hun?"
I almost startled as Blake's voice reached my ears from right behind, turning around to give her a nod before flinging the backpack over my shoulder.
"Remember, our lives are in your hands, partner. Don't blow away our cover," She gave Jake a wink and a smile, who by the way was simply staring at us this whole time while leaning against one of the lockers, lightly shaking his head before straightening up and walking away.
Couldn't blame him though.
Even though he had agreed to cover for us for these last two periods, he had openly expressed his disapproval of this little escapade of ours ever since yesterday.
"Come on, let's go," She grabbed my arm and started dragging me to the school's entrance, almost bumping into one of our classmates in our crazed haste.
Once outside the building, we ran to my car, throwing my backpack in the back and slammed my butt in the driver's seat at the same time as she plopped in the front passenger seat.
"Come on! Drive!" She anxiously slammed her palm against the dashboard, making me startle and turn on the engine in a heartbeat.
I shifted in gear and quickly reversed, taking off with schreeching tires and speeding off on the road like we were in a freaking hot pursue movie scene.
I didn't really know what we were doing, but I knew it wasn't right. Still, I kept on driving anyways instead of just turning the steering wheel and drive back to the school grounds like we were supposed to.
She told me the adress as we drove away like two lunatics, reaching the said adress in no time.
I was surprised I didn't get freaking pulled over on the way there since I had gone way past the speed limit.
Oh well...
Getting out of the car, I then noticed we had actually arrived at a small and nice diner, meeting Blake at the front of the car before we both took a moment to give it a look.
"Ready?" She pulled me out of my brief reverie, earning a simple nod before we gathered some courage and walked to the entrance.
Once inside, we peered around the classic-styled room in our search for our dates, noticing the two young boys sitting in a booth by the window really quick, the diner being fairly empty anyway at the time.
We timidly approached the booth, both of them already grinning as they had spotted us coming.
"Hi," Blake awkwardly waved at them with a smile as we stopped at the table, obviously having as much experience as I did in this kind of stuff. None.
We stupidly looked at each other for a couple of moments as we really didn't know what to do next, my gaze darting between the two boys as I casually took in their appearance.
They were both kinda cute, strikingly contrasting each other in features as while one was a blonde with green eyes, the other had pitch black hair and dark brown eyes, their facial structure also very different, yet somehow both handsome in their own way.
"So...You're Billy, and you're..." She trailed off as she expectantly stared at the blonde one, quickly receiving the answer.
"Joel,"
My brows creased into a mild frown, both Blake and I turning to stare at each other with a questioning look for a second.
"Seriously?" She then asked them with an incredulous look.
They both carelessly shrugged after sharing a look,
"So you're Blake and you're..." Joel's green eyes trailed to me as he waited for the answer.
"Leila," I quickly blurted out, offering him a timid smile.
"Come on, take a seat," He beckoned, scooting forward to grab my hand before I could even say anything else and gave it a light tug, making me land on the leathered bench right next to him.
Blake also followed and took a seat next to Billy, noticing the content smile gracing her lips as she gazed at Billy before her eyes shifted to me, giving me a look that said, come on, let's live a little!
And so I did as I gradually relaxed as soon as we ordered and started conversing with each other, noticing they were actually two pretty decent guys as not once did they say or do anything inappropriate.
We even had a lot of fun for the last hour and a half, joking around but also discovering that we actually shared a lot of tastes and interests, even feeling kinda sad when my gaze eventually trailed to the big clock hanging on the wall behind Billy and Blake, noticing it was kinda late already and we definitely had to go.
We didn't want Rick to freak out and start looking for us since from what I've seen in these past three years, he was definitely the overprotective, papa-bear kind of brother. And these guys obviously didn't deserve to have their pretty faces bashed in because of us.
So with a light tap over the back of her hand I discreetly grabbed Blake's attention, pointing to the clock on the wall as soon as her gaze shifted to me.
"Oh shoot!" She immediately cursed under her breath as soon as she looked at it, already grabbing her phone from the table and trying to get up as quick as possible.
"What? Is there something wrong?" Joel quickly asked as he noticed our sudden change in demeanor.
"No, we're just late. We have to go," Blake hurriedly answered as we got up from our seats, ready to exit the diner.
"So soon?" Billy asked as he gave Blake a sad puppy face as they had gotten up as well.
"Come on, at least let me show you a place first," He said as he gently took her hand, giving her a pleading look.
"Uh...I don't know..." She mumbled unsure as she shifted her gaze towards me before looking back at him.
"Come on, we're not going to bite or something," Joel added with a chuckle as he gave me a hopeful smile.
"Yeah, it's not far. It will only take a little while, I promise, " Billy said as he left some cash on the table and grabbed onto her hand again.
"Come on, if it makes you feel safer, Leila and I will take your car and you can go with Billy. She'll also be driving," Joel told her as he gently grabbed onto my hand as well, leading us outside the diner.
"We'll be back in time, I promise," He told us as we stopped in the parking lot, noticing the hesitant expression on both our faces.
God I hope Rick won't start searching for us...
"Umm...okay," I heard Blake say all of a sudden, giving her a curious look, yet I didn't say anything and let her go to Billy's black truck with him then went to unlock my car.
Guess we're going then...
"Wow, sweet ride!" I heard Joel say from somewhere close behind as I unlocked and opened the driver's door.
"Thanks..." I quietly answered as I turned around and watched him round the car and go to the front passenger seat door.
I then hopped in and started the engine as soon as he did too, waiting for Billy to reverse and get out of the parking lot first, letting him take the lead.
We drove for a couple of minutes, conversing some more with Joel as we did so, nice and slow and trailing close behind since I didn't want to lose them and let Blake end up god-knows-where and alone with Billy. We've only known them for two hours after all.
We then took a more secluded road, making me feel a little bit suspicious before the truck finally pulled over, noticing we had actually stopped at the edge of a hill as even from inside the car, I could see a large mass of tiny houses, streets and trees at the bottom.
I then turned off the engine and got out of the car, watching Blake and Billy get out as well.
She ran to the front of his truck and looked at the beautiful view, letting out a stunned laugh.
"Nice huh?" I heard Billy ask her as he approached as well, I myself moving to lean my butt against the hood of my car before finally taking in the beautiful scene before my eyes.
My lips broke into a smile as well as I eventually allowed myself to stop feeling so suspicious and relax a little bit.
Turning my head back to Blake, I noticed how she and Billy smiled at each other, moments before he slowly leaned in to kiss her, feeling my cheeks slightly heating up as she eventually gave in and let him deepen the kiss.
Whoops...
I chose to turn my gaze to the beautiful view over the city and give them some sort of privacy, feeling so awkward standing next to Joel as I sure as hell wasn't keen on doing the same thing with him as well. He was cute, but I just didn't like him that much, truth to be told.
There was someone else plaguing my mind at the time anyway...
Only the whole moment took such a wrong turn as all of a sudden I heard some distressed sounds coming from Blake's direction, noticing how Billy had actually turned a little bit too frisky as his hands started to fervently fondle her body as she tried to evade him.
What the fuck?
"Hey! What do you-" I was abruptly cut-off mid-sentence by a firm hand grabbing onto my shoulder, forcefully turning me around.
"Hey, come back here baby," My mouth hung open as I came face to face with Joel, noticing the darkened glint in his eyes as he lustfully stared me down.
"Let them have their fun,"
"So we can have ours..."
Fuck.
