4.

Emma

After that interesting history class, my other classes went by quickly. I placed the theories of my wolf aside. My parents won't lie to me. We were brought up, to be honest with each other. I'm a gift from Mother. I kept repeating that mantra to myself while hurrying along the corridor. I was so distracted with my million and one thoughts begging for my attention that I didn't notice someone walking toward me. I bumped into them causing my books to fall to the ground, all my notes were all over the floor.

"Shit. Sorry," I said bending down to pick up my stuff not knowing who I bumped into. It was all my fault for thinking of stupid situations that resulted in my birth. Maybe I wanted to be considered that I'm not like my other pack members and began concocting fairy tale births.

"Watch where you're walking you freak!"

Oh, no. Not her. Not now. Shaking my head I continued to gather my things. Maybe if I act invisible she will think I am. Her IQ probably will help my situation.

"Too dumb to talk now. Or is it because your protectors Aiden and Mason are not here for you to speak up? You're such a desperate bitch clinging onto the alpha and beta. Do you even think they would mate a wolfless slut like you?" she continued her speech with venom lacing each word.

Or not.

She drew a crowd as she continued to call me names. She was in her zone, attention was now on her but my wolf wasn't having any of it. One thing about my wolf is that she had a superior complex in times like these, she hates when people talk down to us and embarrasses us publicly.

'Alia please calm down. She isn't worth it' I said to my wolf trying so hard to calm her down.

'No one disrespects my human. Not even this mutt' she shouted at me.

I can feel my hands starting the transformation process, my eyes darken as I tried to calm my breathing. Alia won't calm down.

"You are nothing but a reject, Aiden is only with you because he felt sorry for the little loner girl," Heather continued. I heard the sneer and disgust in her voice and unfortunately, Alia did too.

My wolf took over and slammed her against the wall of lockers. She looked at me with fear in her eyes. I could even smell it rolling off in waves. Gasps of shock echoed throughout the hall, to them I was weak and pathetic. A smudge in the dominant species of all supernaturals.

"Listen here you silicone Barbie doll. You will leave Aiden and Mason out of the petty hatred you have for me. I don't care what you say about me. I don't give two fucks as to why you hate me. To me you are just another airhead slut, " I said tightening my grip on her neck. This wasn't me. Alia was getting too strong for me. Usually, Heather's words simply rolled off me while I calmed Alia. I had to control her better.

Something was off with her. Something was off with us.

I felt someone's arms around my waist but I ignored them and lifted Heather off the floor a few inches more. Their familiar scent reached me but I chose to ignore it, I wasn't in control. The person then kissed me behind my ear and told me to calm down, they did this three times before I obeyed them.

Aiden.

Alia obeyed and released Heather. Whimpering, she gave me back control and went back to her sanctuary in the Spirit Realm. I can feel her remorse though it was minuscule because of her satisfaction with scaring Heather. Aiden turned me to face him with a worried look on his face.

"I didn't mean to. I'm sorry. She's getting stronger, Aiden, "I said softly to him. Inside I was freaking out, badly so. Mason came up to us and looked at Heather who was coughing trying to regulate her breathing.

"Look... What... She did to me... Alpha," she croaked from the floor.

Mason pulled me away from Aiden who I suddenly realized was only in basketball shorts. Damn, he looked good. Easy there, Emma, not now.

"Everyone leave!" Aiden shouted in a dominant voice. Alia bristled she never liked it when he used that voice, him or his father. With that being said everybody left, leaving Heather to handle herself, her friends were included in those deserters. I didn't get a chance to listen in on the conversation between her and Aiden because of my dear best friend, pulling me away.

Mason led me out of the school and towards the border of the forest. 'Alia! What's wrong? I thought we mastered this.' My voice was soft yet pleading as I spoke to her. I loved my other half, she gave me strength on days when my confidence has reached its lowest. She was my rock.

'For that, I'm sorry Emma. I wanted to protect you,' she said to me whimpering.

'It's okay, Alia but I can handle the lil mutt' I told her. She scoffed and I rolled my eyes.

I followed Mason to a secluded area in the forest where he sat down and I followed. It was our spot. He put me to sit on his lap and held me close. The three of us found this spot on one of our adventures when we were kids. Since then we've come here to relax, play, and even campouts. Our special place.

"We won't tell your father. We know it wasn't your fault but next time, you have to try harder to control her." was all he said before kissing my head.

"I'm doing my best to do so but it's getting hard to 'fake' being wolfless. I do feel how strong we are both becoming and it's confusing as hell. The books on she-wolves don't mention anything of increasing power. We are meant to be docile, the males' peace, " I argued while rising to my feet.

"We'll figure it out don't worry. I know this is asking much but be careful alright?!"

I nodded and looked to my right after picking up that familiar scent.

Coming out from the trees I saw the large brown and grey wolf coming towards us. Alia was in her glee. It was Aiden's wolf, Ace. The two of them were very fond of each other which was very rare between non-mates.

He sat before Mason and me wagging his tail. It always amuses me when our wolves act like huge attention-seeking puppies.

'You alright, butterfly? ' Aiden asked.

"I'm okay now," I said out loud stroking his fur. He licked my hand and cheek then playfully pawed my shoes. God, I missed how we all were.

Mason and I laughed at his actions. "Okay, man. For old times' sake. Just remember she gotta be back by 3," Mason said stripping. I went behind a tree hearing the shifting and cracking of bones. After securing my clothes, I shifted and stepped out to Aiden and Mason.

They both stepped forward licking my face affectionately. These two guys were my anchor in this life. I knew they loved me, each in their own way and I was truly grateful to have them.

'Sis, are you okay? Aiden told us about the incident. Did anyone else see your wolf state?' Jonah's worry-filled message reached me. Over the years, they both kept track of my growth and actions, I didn't ask why. I brushed it off as protective big brothers. I think it's time to ask questions once more.

'I don't think so. Alia only used her strength. I'm with the boys now. I'm going to run, see you later' I answered then closed the link.

Aiden nudged me to follow him and I did. All three of us ran around and then played a bit, getting rid of the tension. We lay on the grass under the sun in our wolf form in comfortable silence.

'You two can have any girl at school but chose to be solely focused on me. Why?' I asked.

'For me. You're family. My sister. My best friend. I would do anything to protect you, Emma,' Mason answered.

Aiden came next to me and rested his head on my paws. 'And for me. I love you. I know we are young and have mates out there but I just want us for the short time. Please give us a chance' Aiden answered. I missed him and still had feelings for him but I hope he understands how different this new relationship will be. Our mates are out there, our chosen ones, this isn't a forever thing. If he is aware of it all then we are both on the same path.

'I love you too' I said to him licking his face.

'Are you two lovebirds through? I hope you told her Aiden .' Mason said snorting.

'Yes, I did.' Aiden said laughing.

'Good now you two better cut down on the PDA in front of me'

'Says the guy who had a make-out session in front of me three days ago.' I said playfully nipping his ear. Mason huffed swiping at me playfully.

'Let's head back. I gotta go home for some clothes' Aiden said leading the way to the trees.

We shifted back to our human selves and head back to school. Mason walked ahead to give us some alone time.

" I meant what I said back there. I do love you, Emma. No matter what. " Aiden said stopping by the school doors.

I ran my fingers through his hair which made him growl in pleasure.

"I wish you were my mate. I don't want to give you up," He muttered holding my hands in his.

Goddess above. Is this something that he should say?

His eyes were dark and filled with lust as he looked at me. Before I knew it he pulled me forward, crashing his lips against mine. I wasn't surprised that I felt pure pleasure and contentment when we kissed but something was missing. His tongue fought with mine, as my hands explored his naked chest. He froze when my fingers touched his lower belly. "Guess you still have a major effect on me, butterfly" he growled into my ear.

"It shows what you really crave," I whispered in his ear making him shudder.

He erotically moved against me letting me feel how aroused he was. Sniffing my neck he said, "Your scent is driving me crazy."

"Later. My love" I said pushing him off and running inside.

It was a risk we both took agreeing to be together again but I knew at the back of my mind he will, eventually, let me go as I will when he does find his mate. We understood what will happen in the future. I had an inkling of excitement in finding my mate but my high school girl heart wanted Aiden.

Mason

'She's getting stronger. We have to tell her, sir.' I mind linked to Emma's father.

'Her 18th birthday is coming soon. Her strength and new powers will surface. I will tell her soon. Keep her close. I already informed Aiden. The twins are around the school to keep watch. ' he replied.

Time was coming closer for her to leave.

Walking into the pool area where the swim-meet will be held I thought about our days when we were younger. She was there when my mother died, my first heartbreak, there to tell my deepest fears, Emma was genuinely a good person.

I looked to the entrance and saw Aiden heading towards me. He will be hurt when they take her back. I knew they loved each other terribly but they weren't mates. It was rare between wolves. Aiden worshiped the ground she walked on, he knew of the secret all three families held from her, maybe when they both find their own mates it can fill the void.

"Hey man," I greeted him as he sat next to me.

His eyes were focused towards the pool, I followed his line of sight and shook my head.

Next to the side benches was Emma sitting beside her coach in her swimsuit animatedly talking to a few of her teammates. Within her conversation, she stopped then bent her head probably in embarrassment. I turned to my buddy when I heard him chuckle to himself.

"Teasing her before the competition isn't a good thing bro," I said jabbing him in the side.

"Then she shouldn't look so tempting," he responded.

I looked at my best friend, I do know she's beautiful and has the body and personality to go with it but I never saw her in that way. I always saw her as a sister I needed to protect and love, even though she doesn't need it.

He let out a deep sigh. "Do you think she will push me away when she finds her mate?" He asked.

I thought about his question as the swimmers took their places. Emma looked up to the stands waving to us and then her family who were further down the stands. Her eyes lingered back to us as we wished her good luck through the mind link. She gave us an appreciative nod and focused on her competition.

"She will never do that, just like us, you two will always be friends," I assured him.

With the sound of the starter gun, the race began.
