The secret meeting
“Hey buddy! Wait!”
I hear Joshua’s voice behind me. When I look over my shoulder I see Joshua running towards me. I stop and smile at him: “Hey Josh, how you doin’? Did you have a nice run?’
It's saturday morning and I know he always takes a long run in the woods at this hour. “Yeah, Jaggar needed a run. The weather is still nice, so we enjoyed the walk. But I really need a shower, damn. Tomorrow morning will be hell, when I try to leave my bed..” Joshua is standing next to me with a desperate look on his face, out of breath and sweat all over his body.
I chuckle. “Well, one of the perks of not being connected with my wolf yet is that I don’t have to run on a regular basis, for fun - I am not a big fan of endurance training.” A silence fall between us, while we are walking towards the packhouse. I know my best friend from the in- and outside and I can tell he wants to share something. But he hesitates. “You know you can share anything with me, don’t you Joshua?” I ask my friend. He looks at me and nods. “I know, and I don’t know what to do with this information. So I think it’s the best for me to tell you.”
I’m confused. What can be so important that he wants to tell me, but can’t share to anyone else? I look at my best friend with a frown on my face: “Spill it out, Josh. What’s wrong?”.
I see him take a deep breath before he says: “I overheard my father talking to some guys from the Blue Oasis Pack. I think they are planning to attempt a coup on the Luna…” His eyes are focussed on the ground.
“THEY ARE PLANNING WHAT...?” I yelled in Joshua’s face. “Shut up Adam,” he says while looking around, “be quiet! Nobody's allowed to hear this. Come, I think Luna must know as well. I’ll take a shower and see you in 10 minutes in the packhouse.”
I nod to him, hiding my anger and frustration. NOBODY will take over this pack. Only I can replace my sweet mother. As the only child of the Luna of this pack, I am the rightful heir. I’ve been training and preparing to be the Alpha one day, since I was a little kid. No one can take that away from me.
I see Joshua entering the packhouse, as a Beta’s child he lives there too. My mother and I live at the 3th and 4th floor. There is also mom’s office and a conference room. The second floor is housing the Beta- and Gamma family, they have both a wing, while the first floor is reserved for guests and a big family kitchen and livingroom. The packhouse is a giant and impressive building. It’s in the family for almost hundred years now, and went through a couple of renovations.
I hurry inside and start running the stairs, taking two steps at a time. “MOM!” I follow the smell of fresh baked bread and head into the kitchen. “Mom! I need to talk to you, it is important. Joshua is coming too. Can we please talk in your office?”
“My office? Darling, what can be so important that you need to talk to me in my office?” She looked at me, and I see the question marks in her eyes. I sigh and walk towards her. “Trust me mom, we need to talk.” I grab her hand and start walking to the hallway.
“Moon Goddess, Adam, can I at least take the bread out the oven? We can’t talk with an empty stomach. I’ll make some lunch and see you two in the office in 10 minutes.”
I know she is serious when I look into her eyes. It’s the Luna-voice again. She can’t help it, although it isn’t effecting me. Because without an Alpha leading this pack, I am the highest ranked Alpha right now. That’s why the Luna-voice isn’t affecting me. We found out when I was still a little boy. Normally a pack is run by an Alpha and his mate, the Luna. My mother never talks about my father, I don’t even know who he is. It's very rare, but sometimes a pack can be led by a Luna alone. I’m not aware of the details from the wolf law, but it ís possible.
Anyhow, she is used to use it and I think she doesn’t even know she is using that voice anymore. It’s a habit. She was born to be a Luna, and she is doing a great job being the Luna of this pack. But, sometimes she needs some protection too. Especially when it looks like her Beta is turning against her.
