9. Lukas
/Lukas POV/
Fates lived in a faraway land which was neither on heaven or hell. A made-up land just for the three of them. Most of them feared to go there because of those notorious fairies. As the three of them lived together in the entire land they always have something mischievous planned upon their sleeves.
'Bloody twinkies' I cringed just at the thought of them. The first time I made them was at the Coronation. Having heard of them I was ready to get my leg pulled but they did not do anything instead looked at me weirdly through the entire night. It spooked me. Yes, they spoked the demon. Imagine that.
I had no idea why I was going to meet them. They should be the one to come back to hell and tell whatever they wanted to. Leo, however, was pretty insistent that something was important if they were calling.
Hell ranks the demons according to their power. As the King of Hell I was above everyone, then came my First Hand, the very person I trust with my throne, Dean. He was one of my trusted soldiers not only because he saved my life. I made him my first in command as a reward for that.
As I was leaving Hell for a few hours I needed someone to guard. It would be surprising to know that people were always plotting something in their cages, mostly the ways to escape their punishment. Humans are funny that way. If they would have behaved maybe they would be up in heaven. Silly creatures.
"My King" Dean bowed in front of me as I straightened the edges of my jacket. Not that I was trying to impress someone but I had a reputation to maintain. The people in Hell seriously need someone to give them a piece of fashion advice so it might as well be me.
He was holding the spear in his one hand while his other hand was lying by his side. Most of them mistake him for being helpless, but his other hand was made of the strongest metal in Hell. The metal nearly gets heated up for two thousand years before turning into something beatable. I offered him the metal because he lost his arm in the fight saving me.
"Ahh...Dean just the person I was looking for" I gave a slight tilt to my head. He never met my eyes, always staring at the floor as if to show respect. It got mundane after a while, getting that kind of respect. People feared me that's why was difficult to talk with anyone of them. They simply thought it as an order and followed it.
"What do you need, my King?"
"I'm going to see Fates so I need to look after the place for a while. Can you do that?" I raised my eyebrow, staring at him through the mirror. He hummed.
"Of course my king"
"Good"
"Is there anything else you need me to do?" Dean asked as I pocketed the watch. It had a long chain to it and for some reason, I always carried it along with me.
"Yes. The three-floor needs some upgrade, don't you think?" I smirked, enjoying the way he raised his head up and grinned.
They were not suffering enough. Blood-curdling cries of those while they are punished for the sins they committed was something I enjoyed a lot. It may sound sadistic but they deserve it and to see them experience it every day was a true pleasure.
"I'll get right away to it" Dean tightened his grip on the spear. The electricity sizzling out of the tip.
His spear had high voltage electricity thrumming inside that's why he carried it along with him. It made him look very old fashioned and stereotypical for a demon but he enjoyed it.
I shook my head, my lips twitching, "No no I want you to send Leena to handle it. She's been driving me crazy for extra duty"
"As you please" He bowed again and stood there for few seconds, still not looking at me.
"Out" I moved my eyes towards the entrance of the door.
The buzzing sound in my ears was annoying but it was something I had to endure. The harsh wind blowing across my face made me grit my teeth together. For a second I thought that it was their doing, those twinkies making my journey even more difficult than it has to be. Looking over my shoulder I let out a sigh.
The portal was still open and I could slide back to the hell anytime. At least they did not have control over that. My eyes moved around, noticing the different colour flowers everywhere. In the middle of the garden was their cottage.
"Let's do it" I muttered under my breath and pushed at the brown door.
When I entered inside, silence greeted me. The cottage looked huge from the inside, like mansion huge. How bored are they?
Trying not to get annoyance best of me I trudged towards the stairs, keeping my eyes open. They were tricky little pests and I was in no mood to ruin my suit. Of course, nothing would happen to me physically because I could easily overpower them. Still, it was better to be cautious.
"King" One of them squeaked, opening the door before I could climb the stairs. It was Sia. Oh, the shy, nervous one. Great!
"Why did you call me?" I got straight to the point. There was no way I was going to entertain them for a long time. She motioned for me to follow her inside the room.
"What is going on?" I asked as the door closed behind me.
My eyes widened when I noticed the room I was standing in. The Fates room. Everything happens in the exact same room. After they receive the news of new life on earth, they visit and decide it's fate. Weave a new thread of life. I swallowed the lump formed in my throat as I stared at the huge display of threads with colours and shine on them.
Mia smiled, "My King. You got our message?"
I dryly laughed, "That's why I'm here"
Gia was standing near the round pool, chanting something which made me frown. Where they also witches? I stood there quietly observing her and trying to figure out exactly what she was doing. Demons usually don't get proper education like those angel twats upstairs. The upper-level demons, although try to learn about the spells and incantation often find it difficult.
"What is she doing?" I asked Mia who was mixing something in a bowl.
"You'll find out soon"
My nose flared at that and I glared in her direction, "Listen I know you all think that I sit on my throne all day and do nothing but it's exactly opposite. Shocking I know. If you are not going to answer any of my questions I won't hesitate to step out of here"
Sia coughed, shaking her head, "Please this is important. We would have not called you if it's not. There is something you need to know"
I rolled my eyes, "Alright but make it quick"
Mia hummed, "Just a minute. This thing," She raised the bowl she was holding towards me, "As soon as it is done we will be done"
"What is that anyway?" I asked, casually leaning against one of their pillars. From the corner of my eyes, I noticed that the display of the threads when few of them went dim. What was that about?
"We can tell you. You have to trust us on this"
"Right!" I snorted but Mia smiled in my direction. She was too cheery like that. Made me irk.
"Why are some of them turning dim?" I questioned, my eyes focused on the display. They felt like fairy lights but in different colours and shapes.
Gia turned around, "They are dying"
I blinked at her, "What? You have the authority to know about it?"
From what I knew about Fates I thought they only controlled life. Even the people from Hell did not know about human deaths. Death and his followers collected the souls and bought it for us. That's how discreet the information was.
"Yes, we control life and death" Sia softly said, delicately touching at the thread and ripping it off.
I winced, "Wow"
"It's ready," Gia said patting my arm and I raised my eyebrows at her.
"What?"
"The water. Just dip your head in and you'll find out the reason you are here"
I looked hesitantly at the water, "Okay fine but if I die I am going to haunt the three of you"
Mia giggled, "It'll be fun though"
"Unbelievable" I rolled my eyes and stepped towards the pool. Staring at the water for a few seconds I took a deep breath and dipped my head in.
Nothing mattered anymore as memories flashed in front of my eyes. Different colours and people went by. Gasping I stood up, trying to inhale.
"Talia is having my baby"
