1. Where it begins.

"Niya, it's time to close the library, my love." Miss Tremblay smiled while cleaning the mess around her desk.

Elvera library was not so big but had enough books of Niya's interest. She was sitting at the last end of the library reading her favorite fiction Dead Until Dark. Niya has a special place in her heart for dark ruthless love stories where love is not so golden and peaceful but instead, it's dark. Stories where happiness is not about living with each other but living for each other. She was so lost in her fictional world that even Miss Tremblay's high pitched voice didn't reach her ears. Miss Tremblay cleaned her desk and stared through her lenses again in the direction of Niya's desk and sighed.

"Niya, it's closing time!" She made her words more loud this time and Niya stared at her from the other end.

"Keep your volume low, Ms. Trem, it's a library." Niya annoyingly closed her book and walked towards her.

"Good night Ms. Trem."

The surroundings were covered with snow and the freezing temperature was making it more difficult to walk. Niya was almost running on the slippery road as she wants to feel the warmth of her home as soon as possible. The market was full of colorful lights as it was Christmas week so every shop was giving festive vibes.

Suddenly, she saw a dark figure standing near the tree on the other side of the road. Niya got her father's vibes from that figure and thought he might be planning to surprise her with his early visit so without having second thoughts, she rushed to the other side of the road, but there was no one. It seems like the figure vanished in thin cold air.

She was not so happy about the trip her mom and dad took as this was December and the weather becomes so deadly at this time of year. The snowstorms and landslides were so common near River Tyne in winters here. She tried to stop them but her grandmother was seriously ill. They should be back tomorrow for her high school graduation.

She smiled at her stupid hallucination and was about to move back to her path but suddenly her phone buzzed in her pocket.

''Hello?" She picked up the call without seeing the number on the screen.

''May I talk to Ms. Niya Hemsworth?" A person, on the other side of the phone, asked.

''Speaking.'' She grabbed her books and exited through the back door of the library while talking on her cell phone.

"Ms. Hemsworth, we are sorry to inform you that in a recent landslide near River Tyne, we found your mother seriously injured in her car.

She has been admitted to the city’s heart hospital. Please come as soon as possible.'' And the call disconnected but her mind was not at all working. It felt like the time has stopped and she had no idea what to do or where to go. She was numb.

She rushed to the hospital and saw her mother laying on the bed, an oxygen mask helping her breathe.

''Mom?" She gathered all of her courage to speak. Her mom opened her eyes with difficulty and tried to speak but words were not coming out of her mouth.

''Mom? Are you ok? How did this happen?" Niya asked and tear slipped down through her eyes.

''Niya...yo-your...Da...d...Dad is-'' Her mother finally spoke but in parts.

''Dad?? Mom, where's Dad?'' She asked anxiously. But her mother was not responding. "Mom? Mom, please speak up." She started crying as the machines started to go crazy and shouted for help from a doctor. She could hear multiple footsteps coming into her room but she paid no mind to them, her attention solely on her unresponsive mother.

"Please, Ms. Hemsworth let me check." The doctor asked a nurse to take her out of the room.

Outside the room, Niya began pacing near her mother’s room as her worries increased due to her mother’s state and her dad’s unknown whereabouts. After pacing for what felt like hours, the doctor came out of the room.

"How is she, Doctor? What happened?!'' She asked worriedly.

"I’m sorry...we tried everything we could. I’m so sorry for your loss. Her con-" The doctor said solemnly. But all Niya could hear was the blood reaching her ears as the doctor continued to speak.

That was it. It was the end of her everything. Her parents were everything to her and one of them was dead and the other one was missing. Her world shattered.

The next day, she received a call from the police station.

''Ms. Hemsworth, we tried our best to find your father but our recent research suggests that more than eight people are missing at the landslide location and as of now we have found five bodies from the river Tyne, but none of them is your father's.”

''And?'' She could feel her stomach drop, knowing that the next words he was about to speak were going to be the most deadly. The officer sighed.

''And…we think your dad could have been eaten by some marine animal…'' He paused. ''...or drowned in the Beaufort Sea." He cleared all the facts straight up. He informed her that if any update emerges, she will be informed. But by his tone, she knew that was unlikely. Her dad was dead and his body may never be found.

The next few days passed like a blur. She threw herself into cleaning the house, sorting out her parents’ things, recalling and crying.

In a half-opened cabinet of her study, she noticed a shiny sparkling silver colored thing.

She stared at it for a few seconds, curious as to what it was. Opening the cabinet, she realized it was a diary. A beautifully designed silver-colored diary, with a red shiny broken heart on the middle of its cover, making it more attractive. It was specially designed with a micro golden art design and protected with a fingerprint lock on it.

Put your index finger on the space, a note near the diary stated.

Dad! He must have bought it during his last business trip, she smiled at the thought. Why didn't I open this cabinet before? Dumb me. Putting her index finger on the space and, to her shock, it opened.

Even if dad has bought this, when did he managed to get my fingerprint for the lock?, she thought for a second, and opened the first page of the diary.

Only two words were written there: EVIL INEVITABLE.

Dad. Niya's mind traveled back to last month when she developed a new love for writing and decided to tell her dad about it.

FLASHBACK

EARTH: November 25, 2017

Niya and her father were sitting at their dining table waiting for her mother who was cooking some special Indian food in the kitchen. Her dad was reading a magazine and Niya was reading a story titled Alpha Azrael.

''Dad, I think I should start writing'' Niya sighed while her gaze remained on the book.

''Writing about what sweetheart?'' Her dad was now curious and he closed his magazine to talk about his daughter's newfound interest. Niya also closed her book and stared at her dad for a few seconds.

''About a villain. I wanna write a story about a villain. I like villains more than heroes.'' She smiled with a spark in her big brown eyes.

''Hmm, so you wanna write something dark and twisted? Nice.'' Her dad smiled like he always wanted this. The satisfaction was clear on Mr. Addison Hemsworth's face after hearing her daughter's confession of liking villains.

''But Dad, I want a good and motivational title for my story.'' She asked while grabbing a plate of samosas from her mother.

''Slow down. Why the rush Niya?'' Her mother said while adjusting the sauce bottle which almost fell from the table due to Niya's clumsiness.

'Evil Inevitable'' Her dad blurted out within no time. She and her mother stared at him with curious eyes, waiting for him to explain.

''The title of your story should be Evil Inevitable,'' he smirked and shrugged to their shocking reaction.

*''How did you come up with such an interesting title within no time Daddy?'' Niya hugged her dad with excitement. *

'I don't know, it just popped out of nowhere in my mind.'' He grinned back at her.

FLASHBACK ENDS.

EVIL INEVITABLE, she stared at the title again for a second and felt a kind of strange urge. She sat in front of the desk, grabbed a pen, and started writing.
