6. Eric Bellini

“Fucking…lock, dammit,” Eric cursed, jabbing at the button on his keyfob, pleased when the car finally locked. The Alpha couldn’t wait to get back to his house. He rammed the keys into his pocket, running his other hand through his hand, pleased to be home finally. It was later than he’d thought, but his work was essential, and there were things that he couldn’t just walk away from, as much as he often wanted to.

He walked up the path and unlocked the front door, kicking off his black boots as he closed the door behind him, wriggling his toes for a moment. A sigh left his lips as he sank his feet into the plush carpet he paid an absolute fortune for. The company was taking off in just a few months.

To Eric, there was nothing nicer than getting home at the end of a stressful day and just relaxing, stripping down into some comfy clothes and lounging on the sofa, playing something inane in the background on the television.

However the Alpha realised that the house was oddly quiet though, but he didn't overthink of it. He hung up his jacket and undid the top half of his shirt, exposing his pack tattoo on the chest, the air in their home warm. Without further thought, his legs carried him towards the staircase and began climbing slowly, his body weary and his mind still whirring after a hellish day.

That’s when he heard that sound.

The Alpha woke up with a gasp. He looked around only to realise that it was just another nightmare. Eric tugged at his locks, feeling the wetness at the edges before realising that he dozed off in the with the alcohol bottle cradled to his head. His face morphed into disgust at that.

He sat up, squinting his eyes at the sunlight filtering through the drapes. What was the use of them then? The Alpha thought with a sigh. Rubbing his eyes, he let them wander to his bedside table only to notice his phone buzz again. It’s been doing that since the millionth time that week. He was aware that he could not run away from his responsibilities forever.

Leaning back, he dialled his emergency contact.

“Adrian?” He breathed.

His best friend from the other side snickered, “Glad to know that you’re alive and breathing.”

“Your concern for me is so touching.”

Eric still felt his lips twitch. He knew that his disappearance worried his best friends, but he had no control over the situation. The last thing he wanted was for his friends to pick up the pieces. He’s better than that and also stronger.

“I try” Adrian dryly remarked.

“I am coming back tomorrow” Eric mumbled, gripping the phone tighter than necessary.

“Great! Do you want me to organise a parade in your honour then?”

“I wouldn’t be opposed to that.”

“You’re an asshole” Adrian barked.

“Coming from you, it’s a huge compliment.”

“It’s not funny, Eric! You didn’t pick your calls at all. Not a single message. Do you know how worried we both were?”

The Alpha twisted his lips. He didn’t mean to worry anyone but it sort of happened. The phone by his bedside was silent for a few days, only plugged into the charger for emergency purpose. Not once did he check his phone. That would only make him feel even more guilty.

“I apologise. I’ll make it up to you both.”

“Tell me something new.”

Eric quickly changed the subject. “Update me on what happened these last few days.”

There was a pause before he heard the excited tone of his partner. The Alpha sat up, alerted at the sudden change.

“We found a Personal Assistant. She started yesterday and this one...she’s here to stay.”

Eric rolled his eyes. No way. Adrain said the same thing about the last one as well. She lasted a month before she asked Eric to knot her and make her his mate. He took upon the first offer, and she got mad when the Alpha said he wouldn’t fulfil the second one.

“Okay, let’s see.”

“No, I’m serious this time. She actually thought you would be the one interviewing her cause of her uncle...”

Eric interrupted him midway, his brows raised and lips pressed together. “Wait, what’s her name?”

“Alyssa Rivers. She said that her uncle already talked with you about her job.”

Then it clicked him. Yeah. He did get a call last week from one of his client recommending his niece before he retreated to his private cabin in the middle of nowhere. It slipped his mind.

“Yeah. Slipped my mind but did you guys make sure she’s eligible for the job?”

Adrian snorted. “Don’t worry not all of us think with our dicks”

Eric cringed. Have sex with assistants thrice, and you won’t hear the end of it.

The Alpha walked into the lobby of the BEFORE building. It was bright Saturday morning like any other, it was quiet on the street, but the minute you pushed passed the glass doors of the record label building you were in the middle of a chaotic whirlwind of chatter and commotion.

“Hello, Mr Bellini” The receptionist purred, her eyes twinkling as he spared her a glance.

Eric looked at the young women next to him; she wore her hair pinned up tightly with a black bodycon dress and black tights on.

“Hello, Ms Day”

“I’m so glad to see you back.”

He nodded his head, pressing the elevator to escape having a conversation with her.

“Did you hear about Adams party on the weekend? I hope we can go together.”

Adam was their manager. He had no idea about his party, nor did Eric care.

“I don’t pay you to chat. Focus on your work” He dismissed her.

She curtly nodded her head and got back to her work. The Alpha was tired of her lame attempts to flirt with him. He regretted dancing with her at the club that one night. It was a drunken mistake only if she realised that sooner.

Don’t get him wrong he had been a model citizen since the day he was born, never done anything wrong. He was a straight-A student in school, finished at the top of his class at Uni and went on to excel in his working life, leading him to be the CEO.

The position he was in came with a lot of perks, one being the omegas lusting after him. It wasn’t that he didn’t enjoy the attention, but it got too much. They expected too much as well.

His focus was on his career, and he had worked hard to get where he was today. The Alpha sure as hell won’t be throwing it all away for an omega.

Eric was standing at the window, his back facing towards the door. He was in his private office. Although the three of them had a shared office, they only used it for meetings or during lunch. The Alpha inhaled sharply as he heard a rasp knock on his door. That heady scent made his eyes roll back.

“Come in.”

He heard the sound of the cup being placed on his desk and patiently waited. The man turned around only to part his lips.

Alyssa was stunning with her dove blue eyes and dark brown hair. She had a round mouth, the swollen pink lips making him think that she must bite them a lot. He couldn’t help but notice her frail hands folded together in front of her. Her suit clung to her like a second skin, showing off those delicious curves. No wonder Adrain couldn’t stop talking about her.

“Alyssa Rivers?” Eric's voice was a bit rough around the edges but otherwise smooth. His face and stance just screamed power and assurance.

She swallowed noisily. “Uh...yes, sir.”

His smirk widened as he walked around the desk, his eyes examining the meek tiny omega in front of him. The Alpha felt like a predator approaching its prey as the scent got sharp. Heat coiled in his stomach, but his face remained blank. What was about her that he wanted to drop everything and protect? That feeling was so foreign that it angered him.

He walked back to his desk and opened a drawer, taking out a large pile of files.

“My business partner told me about you. Sort and organise these,” Eric demanded. “Also fix any mistakes found in them. I expect this task finished by evening.”

She nearly gaped. Her eyes flickering between the files and him.

He noticed the colour drain from her face as she stayed rooted on the spot. “What's wrong, Ms Rivers? Isn’t this challenging enough?”

The Alpha threw her own words back at her. She shook her head and forced a tense smile.

“I can handle it, Mr Bellini,” She said through clenched teeth.

His nose flared at the way she met his eyes so daringly. Fine. If she wanted a challenge, he could give her that.

“Good” Eric practically shoved the papers in her arms, making her stumble back a bit by the heaviness of the documents.

“Get to work” The omega nodded her, giving him a dirty look.

As she turned around to walk, he stopped her. “Oh and Miss Rivers thanks for the coffee. Hope it’s exactly as I like, or I will have to trouble you for another cup again.”

She gave him a fake smile before walking out, muttering something under her breath.

This is going to be fun. He smirked.
