7. Sweet Alpha Adrian
Adrian had a grin on his face as he entered the building. The Alpha had one less thing to worry about, which made him feel like a huge weight being lifted off his shoulders. He still couldn’t believe that he managed to convince Nicholas to hire Alyssa. His friend was not easy to convince, but he promised that he would make sure nothing goes wrong this time.
As soon as he stepped out of the elevator, his eyes widened at the stillness in the office. That could only mean one thing. Eric Bellini was back. The employees feared him because he’s intimidating and didn’t tolerate a single mistake. If they only got to know the real him, they would never be scared of him at all.
He shook his head and waltzed towards his office when his eyes fell on the opposite glass office. Adrian was quick to notice the Omega working on a file, her tongue sticking out in concentration. His eyes shifted towards the heaps of files scattered on her desk. It made his nose flare. Only one person was petty enough to do that.
The Alpha stormed into Eric's office without warnings.
Eric Bellini leaned back in his high backed swivel chair, swinging towards the window as he typed on his laptop. To an outsider, it would look like he was having fun in that chair, but Adrain knew better than that. His business-partner had an earpiece connected with bluetooth to communicate with the person on the other side.
His friend had rough stubble, barely a week growth as he rubbed at his jaw. Eric's hair grew out a little than the last time Adrian saw him.
The Alpha stood at the end of his desk with crossed arms and a scowl.
“What?” Eric feigned innocence, raising his brow.
Adrian rolled her eyes and motioned towards the laptop. The last thing he wanted to do was argue in front of clients. His friend held up his index finger and motioned the Alpha to give him a minute to end his call.
“Missed me?” Eric grinned, closing his laptop and pulling the earpiece out.
“What the fuck do you think you are doing? Giving Alyssa that much work? You never give anyone that much work on their first week. She’s still learning.”
Eric laughed. “Such language, Adrian. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?”
“Shut up, Eric. It’s not funny” Adrian glared at him.
“Oh, come on! Who pissed you off this morning?”
“Well, you did!”
“I am just making use of our Assistant. What’s so wrong about it?”
Adrian scoffed. His friend was purposely making it difficult for everyone just for the sake of his amusement. The Alpha knew him that much atleast. But why her? She’s new, determined and talented so why go after someone like her?
“Is it because she's a newcomer? Is that why you picked on her?”
Eric tsked, shaking his head. “Picked on her?! I would never. Believe me, my dear friend, I’m only trying to help her.”
“Help her? I don’t think you understand how helping works” Adrian raised his brow. That didn’t make sense at all. He crossed his arms against his chest; lips pulled together as he stared at Eric.
The Alpha shook his head. There was a glint in his eyes, a spark that Adrian thought had died down a long time ago. His friend barely held so much excitement for something ever since that incident.
“The omega wanted a challenge. I'm just proving she can't handle it so she can know her potential.”
“Wow, aren’t you a helpful messiah?”
Eric shrugged, “It’s what I do.”
“That wasn’t a compliment.”
“Felt like one.”
Adrian sighed. There was just no winning with Eric Bellini. Atleast not with words. His friend just had a way to make you eat your own words. Then again, Adrain wasn’t the one to give up easily. He can’t let Alyssa go. Not when she’s one of the most deserving candidates they had in a while. Also prettiest. That part didn’t matter but helped him put a smile on his face in the morning.
“Just tell me what’s your problem with her?”
Eric mused over it and shrugged. “I feel like there’s just something wrong with her.”
"Define doing something wrong," He narrowed his eyes. Adrain was very well aware of his games. Merely putting the papers in a wrong place could be doing something wrong to Eric. There was just no way to please him in short.
Eric rolled his eyes. “I don’t know! I can feel
it though”
Yeah just as he thought. Alyssa did nothing which might have irked Eric. He’s used to attention from the omegas so much that not having her eyes on him might have thrown him off. Or that confidence. Eric didn’t care for that in omegas either.
“Bullshit. I’m sure what you feel is your ego breaking because she’s the first one to not drop her pants for you.”
Eric's face fell, but he quickly met his eyes. “Oh please! Like I care. One unmated Omega doesn’t affect me.”
“Besides, I’m sure she’ll truly do something wrong, and I'll fire her. But I doubt I'll get that chance.”
The Alpha raised his brow. What was Eric trying to say?
“I feel like she’ll quit before the three days are up."
Adrian scoffed. “I doubt that. She seems very determined”
“They all do at first,” Eric cackled. “It’s how they lure you into believing they are different. In the end, every single omega is the same.”
“Want to make a bet?” Adrain challenged.
Just then, the door was pushed open. Nicholas entered the room; his eyes narrowed at them.
“It’s ten in the morning. I can hear you both arguing in my office. Shut up!”
Even though the walls were soundproof, Nicholas had a fucking great hearing. Like that was his kind of thing. Superhearing.
“I didn’t do anything! It’s all Eric” Adrain complained.
Nicholas roamed his eyes around, looking into his blazer pocket.
“What are you looking for?”
“I’m looking for where I asked you to explain.”
Eric burst out laughing while Adrian scowled at him. That was not funny. A little bit maybe.
“That was a good one Nic.”
Nicholas scoffed. “Oh no, I’m still mad at you, Eric. You don’t get to be all friendly with me again.”
Eric groaned. “Oh, come on! I already apologised for screwing the last assistant.”
“You know that’s not why.”
“Fine, I am sorry.”
Nicholas sighed. “We’ll talk later. I have an urgent meeting with Infinity Now. They are pitching us a Kpop band.”
With that, Nicholas left.
It was nearly night time. Nicholas left early because he had to visit his packhouse. Someone fell sick or something like that.
Most of the employees went home, but Adrain noticed that Alyssa was still in her office. Their personal assistant was doing the work assigned to her by Eric.
“Look what you’ve done” Adrain muttered to Eric as they both exited their office at the same time.
“Made her a better employee?”
“You’re impossible.”
“Why thank you.”
Adrian shook his head and knocked on the door before entering her office.
“Still working, Ms Rivers?” A voice sneered from behind him.
Eric leaned against the wall, his blazer hanging off arm and a smirk on his face. The Alpha glared at his friend.
“Hey, you should go home. It’s late” Adrian chimed.
Alyssa nodded at him before her eyes shifted towards Eric, a sweet smile on her face. “Mr Bellini, I intend to complete the work you so kindly offered me. I hope to help you in vastly improving BEFORE.”
Eric raised an eyebrow with a slight frown. In the end, he just shrugged and walked away.
Adrian sighed, staring at his friends retreating back before stepping towards Alyssa. She started working again.
“Ms Rivers?” He whispered.
She tilted her head at him and grinned, a tired one. The Alpha was quick to notice the empty coffee cups on the side of her desk. It was evident that the omega was trying to keep herself awake.
“You okay?"
“I am fine,” She rubbed her face. “I just will be going home a little later.”
He nodded his head in understanding.
“You said you wanted a challenge and Eric takes things a little bit too seriously.”
The omega twisted her lips. “Yeah, but I didn't think the challenge would be an overbearing Alpha. No offence”
A laugh bubbled in his throat. “Eh, don’t worry. He is a pain in the ass, and he knows that”
“Self-realisation is the key.”
He chuckled again.
“Thanks again for hiring me.”
“You deserved this. I had my doubts too, but I don't think you'll give up. You don't seem like the type.” He earnestly said.
“I don’t give up easy.”
The determined look on her face made something inside him twist. He couldn’t let her go.
Adrian leaned forward, “I’m going to tell you something that I should have told the other assistants.”
She raised her eyebrows, jokingly smiling. “Don’t eat the apple?”
“No. Just stay away from Eric. He’s fire, and if you get too close, you’ll get burned.”
