9. The bilingual Alyssa

The omega trailed behind the Alpha; her heart caught in her throat. For some reason, she felt her palms wet and heart thudding in her chest at an insane speed. Maybe it was the thought of sitting with three Alphas on the same table. She had no idea why she was feeling that way.

Back in her pack, she had no problem looking down at the Alphas who would try to court with her most ridiculous lines ever. Alyssa didn’t care for those, but it was felt different from the three of them. The three of them all had a personality and quirks that made them unique. When she took the job, she had no idea what she’s getting into.

The past week has been nothing but hectic. She barely got time to talk with her mother. All thanks to her job. Eric, with his ridiculous task. Her fingers still felt the strain as she tried to write each and everything. When they made her sign the contract, she thought her job would be very basic. After all, she handled a lot of Alphas in her pack. How difficult can three of them be? Boy if she only knew half of the things.

Whatever the pay was good. That might be an understatement. She could quickly get her brother into his dream college in her salary. Perks of working for three of them! When she told her mother about her job, she heard a loud sob from the other side. They were finally able to make their ends meet without having to rely on someone else for help.

Alyssa wanted to talk to the pack Alpha as well about the prospect of moving her family out. That would take a lot of paperwork and considering she’s an omega with no Alpha in her family; it was going to be even more challenging. Also, she didn’t forget that condition. The one condition because of which the Pack Alpha allowed her to move back to the city.

Lately, with the Alphas, she seems to be forgetting about it. Her cheeks burned at that. They were so handsome and what they call “eye candy” that she couldn’t help but gawk at them. Something she should work on before she gets caught. That would be humiliating. The omega was aware that she should not be thinking of anything else but her job. That’s her only priority.

“This way” Nicholas voice broke her thoughts.

She blinked as they reached the restaurant. Her eyes widened at the tall building in front of her. When Nicholas told a small restaurant nearby, she thought it would be a cottage or something tiny. Her mouth fell apart as they started to walk inside. Everything seemed so plush and elegant. Almost flawless.

The omega tugged at her shirt, the material roughly brushing against her skin. Even though it was lace and everything, the material prickled her skin from inside given that she was wearing it without an inner slip. That would have ruined the look.

“Bonjour Monsieur.” A lady smiled at them, her French accent and pearly white teeth making Alyssa gape at her. She even had those ridiculous black and white uniform. Honestly, the omega thought that they are not real and something they show in movies for fun.

The lady aimed a flirtatious smile in Nicholas way before turning towards Alyssa, a twist in her lips.

“Bienvenue à Chapeau.”

Again with that look. Alyssa received dirty looks from her female coworkers more often than she can count all because she’s working for the country’s most eligible Alphas. They were jealous of her.

Alyssa politely returned the smile.

Her heels clinked against the floor as they walked inside towards the service area. A low gasp slipped from her mouth as she eyed the floor. Round white tables were arranged in a hexagon manner with an opening. As she roamed her eyes around, she spotted Adrian and Eric sitting on the farthest table, against the glass window. They were sitting opposite each other, busy talking about something.

As soon as she neared the table, Adrian greeted her with a wide smile. Her insides fluttered when he motioned to sit her beside him. She nodded her head, waiting by the side as her chair was pulled by the server dressed in the same uniform.

The omega could feel someone glaring at her from the side, and she didn’t have to guess. Trying to seem unaffected she arranged her chair, scooting further and laid a napkin on her lap. The cutlery on her plate was too many than an average person would require, but she wasn’t complaining.

She chewed on her lips, nervously. Alyssa had no idea what to get for lunch. Judging by the interior, she was sure everything would be expensive. Her gut clenched and cheeks flamed with embarrassment. Why did she agree to come with Nicholas? Like every day, she could have gotten something from the vending machine in the game room and had it for her lunch. It wasn’t healthy obviously, but it saved her money. Only a few more weeks till she gets paid.

The server introduced himself as Raquel and asked for their orders.

Nicholas cleared his throat. “Could you give us a moment, please?”

“Oui Monsieur. I’ll come after some time.”

As soon as he walked away, Alyssa released a sigh of breath. Maybe she can make some excuse and walk away.

“Why did you bring our lovely assistant here? Do you need help cutting your steak, Nicholas?” Eric's voice made her cringe.

Nicholas rolled his eyes. “Don’t be an ass. After the way you behaved yesterday she deserves a treat.”

Adrian hummed. “Exactly”

Eric scoffed and went back to reading his menu. Why was he like that? Alyssa thought to herself while peeking at him. Did she do something? But they barely meet. What could have caused him to dislike her?

Adrian turned towards her. “Ms Rivers, you can get whatever you want. It’s on me.”

“No! It’s on me. I invited her here” Nicholas argued.

The omega shyly smiled as they both started arguing between themselves. It was funny and silly at the same time. She stared back at the menu and went over the dishes. Everything was written in French. Her eyes widened at the prices. Even though her bosses agreed on paying for her, she couldn’t help but worry. They were ridiculously expensive for one meal.

“I want a French onion soup.” Adrain shut the menu.

“Soup? Really?” Eric raised his brow.

“Don’t start here please” Nicholas interrupted in the middle.

Alyssa eyed their dynamics with an amused smile on her face. She did read about them and their close friendship which was a bonus to make BEFORE a global success. The omega was impressed at how they were still together even after achieving such a huge milestone.

The server came back to get their orders. The three of them effortlessly repeated their order and all of the eyes were on her.

Eric smirked as if he thought that she’s unable to pronounce her order. He sweetly blinked at her.

“I can place your order if you want.”

Nicholas opened his mouth as if to defend the omega, but she interrupted him.

“I am perfectly capable of doing that sir” Alyssa closed the menu before turning back to Raquel standing there with a tight smile.

“Bonjour Je voudrais Croque monsieur” (Hello I would like to have Croque Monsieur) The omega smiled.

Eric's face fell as she effortlessly spoke French. A scowl replaced the smug smile on his face. Even though she shouldn’t take any kind of amusement in it, Alyssa couldn’t help but grin internally. It felt very refreshing to break that ego of his. She had no personal problem with him, but the way he thought so low of her didn’t sit right with her.

“Venir tout de suite madame” (Coming right up madam)

As soon as the server walked away, Adrian turned towards her.

“Your French is really good.”

Nicholas hummed. “Yeah, I thought you were lying in your resume just like hundred other omegas.”

Alyssa shook her head. She would never lie about something like that. The omega could feel Erics stare on her as she sat right up.

“My fathers family used to stay in France before they moved back to our village. He loved speaking French and taught my brother and me so that we could stay close to our roots.”

“Looks like he did an excellent job then” Adrian grinned.

“Thank you” The omega shyly blushed.

After that, she kept quiet, taking in the atmosphere of the restaurant. Eric involved the two Alphas in some conversation about a new artist on the internet who was making headlines. She tuned out the rest of their talk, focusing on her table.

The omega was grateful that she didn’t have to leave the restaurant in tears. Turns out lunch with her bosses may not be that bad after all.
