Chapter 3

Angela's Pov

I was furious! Who the hell did that man think he was? I knew I was stamping my feet too much but I couldn't care for the curious stares. How dare Brad let that pervert insult me and then cut me off from defending myself?

How misguided was he? I could take care of myself. Hell, I didn't want him to make me feel so...urg! I didn't want nor desired his help! I felt the urge to throw something.

Man, did I have anger problems...but only where Brad is concerned.

I walked back to my car and shot the door; I rested my head on the steering wheel and steadied my breath. When I knew I was calm enough I drove home.

It was almost three and I was growing impatient. It's been a while since I-

The door bell sounded and I walked over and pulled it open anxiously. The smile I knew was on my lips dropped at the sight of Brad.

What the hell? Why was he home this early? I frowned. He would not be happy when he came to find out how I spent my days.

"What are you doing home this early and why did you ring the doorbell?" I snapped, an unsolicited eye roll joining in.

"Because I want to be home this early and I knew you wouldn't be busy so I left my keys in my car." He answered, pushed past me, and walked inside. I closed my eyes and counted to ten slowly.

This man would try the patience of a nun! I stepped away from the door and closed it shut.

"Well dinner isn't ready yet."

"Obviously." He remarked resting his keys and wallet on the table beside the door. I rolled my eyes.

Just breathe

"Do you want me to fix you a quick snack?" I asked, my voice poisonous.

He turned his gaze on me then, his eyes scanning my attire. His eyebrows raised in a silent question.

Brad's POV

Angela was dressed rather formally today leading me to the conclusion that she was set for company. "Are you going somewhere?" I heard myself say and saw her inhale deeply as if asking a question was the most infuriating thing he could have done.

What the hell. It was just a question. Did she have to get so worked up? I had a right to know.

"No." She answered.

I sighed. "Is someone coming here?"

She smirked, "I guess you'll just have to figure that out on your own."

"I-"

The doorbell rang and I saw her snap to attention. Her features turning lively. I was growing very suspicious. Who could have her this excited? This better had nothing to do with a man. I felt my hands clench at my sides. If she dare cheat on me in our home I would end her lover.

The door slid open so slowly, time seemed to favour her. In my line of sight a woman appeared.

A woman?

My eyes gazed further; there was boy at her side. My eyebrows furrowed, my jaw set. What was going on?

"Sorry we kept you." The woman spoke to Angela and she smiled genuinely at the unknown woman.

*Wait. What?

She smiled? She did that?

Why didn't I ever see her like this? She was so...different.

"It's no problem at all," Angela responded. Where was the sharp-tongued woman I knew?

"I really want to thank you for tutoring him." The woman spoke and I saw Angela gaze at me.

She was tutoring this boy? With what?

"I am really happy to help! It's been a while since I taught students." She turned her attention to the boy. " So what's the headache?"

She was so gentle! So motherly.

"Moles." The boy responded his face crinkling at the mention of the topic.

"Ahh I see! Well I promise you'll master the topic before the day ends!" she was enthusiastic.

"Is this your husband?" The woman turned her attention to me and I saw Angela's body tense. She faced me, her eyes and mouth surrounded by worry lines. She turned a smiling gaze back at the boy. "Why don't you go set up in the living room."

The boy scurried in doors, giving me a curt greeting.

"He is." Angela responded and I walked closer to shake hands with the woman.

"This is our neighbour, Mrs Smith." Angela informed.

"Such a pleasure to finally meet you. " She replied and I smiled. My most charming of smiles.

"The pleasure, I assure you, is mine."

"You know I have to tell you, your wife is such an angel! She has tutored my son multiple times for Chemistry and because of her he always gets the highest average." She blabbed and I grew lost. Angela tutored, without my knowledge. I felt the annoyance.

However I smiled. "You two are such a beautiful young couple!" she exclaimed and I felt Angela tense. I knew she was uncomfortable.

Angela's POV

I adored Mrs Smith but right now I wanted to push her off my doorstep! I felt as if she was pleading my case to Brad. As if I needed sympathy of some sort. She was commenting on our non-relationship and it felt really weird. It felt as if she was telling him 'you should accept Angela as your wife, she can be such wonderful company'

"Are you planning to have children soon?" She asked and my eyes flew to her. "Uh-"

"Children were never considered. We are both busy with our separate commitments and haven't the time to have our own kids." Brad answered.

I eyed him from the corner of my eye and felt a sting deep in my chest. Am I to be denied children too? What else shall bring me joy?

Mrs Smith's face dropped and she looked at me longingly. "I see. Well I really must be going."

We sounded our goodbyes and she left.

I closed the door and sighed deeply before I faced Brad. "Do you want me to make you something or not?" I repeated the question I asked him earlier and this time he answered.

"Sure, I'll keep the boy company while you prepare it." he turned and walked out on me. The insufferable bastard! Thinks I am his maid, I muttered angrily as I stormed my way to the kitchen.
