His Mate

Benjamin

Mate.

Mate.

MATE!

My parents' front door swung open, and immediately, my hands flew to my ears as the resounding howls of my wolf and the billions of fireworks exploding in my brain overwhelmed me and forced me to my knees.

My mate was here!

In my parents' fucking house!

'Goddess,' I moaned, relishing the intoxicating notes of sweet honey and cinnamon that raced past my nose and woke every one of my senses in its path.

There was nothing subtle about the way her scent took over the air, let alone my entire being. It hit me like a raging, off-the-rails freight train and turned my bones to dust. I was dizzy, out of breath, and warm—crazy warm. My scalp blazed with heat, and the rest of my skin dripped in sweat as my heart pounded out an erratic rhythm.

I felt myself simultaneously dying and coming back to life, yet I was in total euphoria despite the chaos and discomfort. I finally found my mate, and I would gladly welcome all of this pain if it meant the honey-scented girl was in my arms.

"Benji! Dude, you okay?"

"What the hell's wrong with him?"

"I don't know, man! Benji, what's wrong?"

I could barely hear my friends' voices under the thundering growls of Silas or muster any strength to support my weight as two of them tried to lift me. All I could do was press a palm to my chest, hoping my heart wouldn't explode.

"Shit!" I growled, chortling deliriously.

"Ryan! Where are you going, man? Help us!"

"I can't- I can't! I have to go. I'm sorry, guys."

"What is happening here?" a familiar fourth voice suddenly sounded, and my eyes jumped to the man approaching us.

What happened next, I couldn't explain. My blood boiled with rage at the sight of my father, and a fit of sudden and uncontrollable jealousy tore right through me. Why was my mate's unmistakable scent embedded in his clothes and escaping from his pores? How long had he spent with her? How much of her had he touched?

"Son," my father whispered, unfazed by the violent way my hands clutched at his collar. "You need to calm down and tell your wolf to do the same," he said before looking down to where my fists met his shirt.

My gaze followed his, and I stumbled backward in shock. Silas' coal-black fur was growing out of my arms, and my fingernails were curling into his sharp, deadly claws. I was about to shift and lose complete control of my wolf for the first time in my life, and not realizing it scared me beyond measure.

"I- I-" I stammered, my jaw hanging open.

"I know, Benjamin," my dad said and reassuringly put his hands over mine. "You boys better go," he told Anderson and Craig. "Don't worry about the Alpha; he'll be fine."

"Will I?" I asked him when the front door closed behind my friends. "Dad, my mate is here. I can feel it. Who is she?"

"Goddess, for years, they thought she could be your mate, but now to know it fo-"

"What?" I cut him off, having trouble listening. "What are you talking about, Dad? Please, move! I need to see her."

"Okay, but Benji- Benji!" my father shouted, stretching his arms out to block my way. "There's something you need to know before you do. Let's go talk in the living room for a minute."

"No! Let me through!" I yelled back, trying to push past him.

"Son, your mate's not a werewolf. She's human," he blurted out. "You can't meet her like this; you'll scare her off. Do you hear me, Benjamin? Are you listening to me?"

His urgent voice died down, and in its stead, a loud buzzing began to ring in my ears as I strained to make sense of his words.

Fuck me!

A human mate?

"No. No," I let out under my beard in despair. "Why?" I asked aloud.

Why, indeed.

Why had the Moon Goddess destined me for a human girl?

What could I have done to merit such horrible faith?

Some Weres might have been happy spending the rest of their lives with their souls tied to a human's, but I could never be. I was an alpha wolf, for Goddess's sake, one of the best and strongest creatures in this world and the complete opposite of a human in every possible way.

I deserved better; I knew that much.

I couldn't waste my time and effort with someone I'd gain nothing from; humans were dull, weak, and pitiful after all. This girl, whoever she was, wouldn't be able to lead and protect a pack of werewolves by my side as a Luna should. Her nature couldn't allow it. Hell, I wasn't even sure it would let her sense the mate-pull the way I did. So, how was she supposed ever to be an Alpha's equal?

"Benjamin, don't," my father warned me, watching me pull away. "There's no shame in mating with a human, son, and as an Alpha, you more than anyone else need a mate. The bond can only make you stronger; you know that." He told me sternly. "The Moon Goddess doesn't make any mistakes."

"Then maybe you are," I let out shakily, rubbing the back of my head in thought. "My mate's voice came to me this afternoon, I'm sure of it. How could she do that if she's not one of us?"

My father's eyebrows furrowed, and his lips twitched before he could speak through the bewilderment of his own. "Well, umm, maybe you misheard. She's human, son. Roxanne said so."

"Roxy?"

"Yes, Mina's your sister's best friend. They're both here, in the kitchen."

"Mina?" I repeated her name wistfully as if I had said it all my life.

My heart, suddenly and unjustifiably so, felt homesick, and her name alone made my breathing quicken and my face flush again. But, as this new wave of desire washed over me, I began to fear what meeting her might do to my willpower, for I wanted to reject my mate.

But to reject her, I had to resist her.

Fuck me!

Forsaking my soulmate?

I would rather be alone than bound to a human; still, I hated myself for even considering it, and Silas hated me more. His sadness, anger, and disapproval of me echoed loud and clear in his muffled growls, and I dared not speak to him. He would abandon me if I did, and I couldn't let that happen.

"What?" I gasped, flinching as my father's hand unexpectedly landed on my shoulder and drew me back to him.

"I asked if you wanted to meet her?" he said, repeating himself.

'Say no! Say no! Say no!' my mind screamed.

"Benji?" he asked again.

'No, I don't! No, I don't! No, I don't!' it cried again.

But against all odds, instead of no, I nodded yes, and with a sigh of relief, my father motioned me to follow him.

"Let's go," he said, reminding me to keep Silas in check.

What was wrong with me? I should have run for the door and fled as far as possible from this house, not trail behind my father towards the kitchen. Nothing good could ever come from seeing her; I was sure of it.

"Dad, I ca-" I attempted to backtrack, but it was too late.

We reached the kitchen doorway, and first, her scent knocked the words right out of my drying throat, then, with the speed of light, my eyes landed on her. Goddess, there she was, the one whose sweet perfume, now practically, failed to meet her true beauty.

My Mina.

She looked nothing like the girls I've ever enjoyed, and yet everything about her spoke to me. Like a custom-made painting, a hand-crafted sculpture commissioned for my eyes only, her beauty was beyond compare. Mina was pure perfection.

The entire room fell into silence as I stared openly at my mate, taking in as many details as possible. Shiny black curls, deep dark eyes, smooth brown skin, plump red lips: this girl was a living and breathing wet dream.

"Goddess," I growled almost inaudibly as she nervously attacked her lower lip with her teeth.

My lustful watch was making her uncomfortable, I could tell, but I wasn't sorry, nor did I want to stop. The only thing I wished this second was for her to look down at my growing bulge and see the full effect she had on me.

Fuck me!

Would you, Mina?

Oh please, fuck me!
