Part 13
A sob racked through my body in the strange-looking room. I was all alone again—no one by my side. In few hours, the official ceremony will be over, and I will be Luna of the pack. But the Alpha hated me. What was the use of having such power anyway? A fresh set of tears flowed down my cheeks the more I thought about it.
Everyone was busy arranging the site we would worship the moon goddess. Wolves are believed to be children of the moon. That's why we worship the goddess that created us on every significant occasion. Apart from the moon, the wolves also worship the elements—water, fire, air and earth. We believe that these elements, along with the moon, sustain us.
A knock echoed in my room. Lifting my head, I stared at the Pack Alpha standing outside the door. My legs wobbled, standing up, head bent down as I greeted my father in law. I wrung my fingers together, fully expecting his wrath.
Cara met him once as Aiden took all of them to a family restaurant for dinner. She barely spoke a word about him which made me think
that he must be a no-nonsense, strict Alpha. A shiver ran down my spine.
"Is this a good time to talk, dear?"
My mouth parted at that. Why was he so nice to me? I lifted my head and nodded at him.
"Yes, sir."
He chuckled. "You can call me Alexander."
"But—"
"I insist."
"Okay," I breathed, my shoulders slumping in relief.
"I'm not surprised."
"Excuse me?"
"The witch of our pack already predicted that Aiden would get bonded with an omega. He didn't want to believe it."
"Because he hates our kind?"
The Pack Alpha winced. "That's his trauma. His story to tell. But I hope you will be patient with my son, Rose. He deserves some love in his life."
I didn't know what to say, so I nodded my head. He was the son of Pack Alpha. Didn't everyone automatically love him? Alphas are always treated with such high regard the why did Alexander say those words? My face scrunched.
"Again, I am sorry about your parents. I heard they left"
My stomach twisted at that. They didn't even wait for the ceremony. It's understandable. Both of them felt betrayed by my action. I hope they realise I did what I could to save our family name.
"Yeah"
The Pack Alpha warmly smiled at me. "Don't worry. I am sure they'll come around. This is your home now."
"Why are you not angry at me? I replaced Cara and betrayed everyone by hiding under the veil."
"Because I believe in fate, my dear", He exhaled sharply. "I'm pleased it's you instead of your sister. No offence to Cara, but she was barely interested in my son."
My eyes glistened with tears. Alexander was so welcoming and loving that it made me want to cry. At least there's someone who didn't outright hate me for my gender.
"Thank you."
He shook his head. "Now go to your cabin and get some rest. We will start the ceremony in few hours."
"Okay," I croaked.
The Alphas cabin was the largest and the furthest away from the packhouse. The air around the cabin was much colder due to the lake next to it, and I also noticed two lounge chairs a few feet from the shore. The thought of sitting there with Aiden in the summer crowded my mind involuntarily.
Shaking my head, I took a step further. I raised my hand to knock again, but it was futile. The door swung open, and there was Aiden on the other side, shirtless and angry. My breath caught in my throat, mouth parted in a low gasp at sight. My mind was telling me to run away from the heartless alpha, instead take shelter in the packhouse till the ceremony.
But I would eventually have to face him.
"Why are you here?" He asked, voice sharp and clipped. The Alpha leaned against the door frame and raked his eyes up and down my body. His face gave away nothing but arrogance.
"Um," I cleared my throat and shifted from one foot to the other. My knees trembled at the blast of cold air flowing by, making me want to hide under the blankets. Omegas are very sensitive to winter, especially the breeze. We didn't have the thick fur or body heat as Alphas did.
"Speak up!" He yelled.
I cowered, lowering my head as the sharp pain travelled to my ears. "T-The Pack Alpha asked me to stay here."
A thick eyebrow quirked as he stared at me, lips pulled in a straight line. "Is that so?"
"Yes"
"And why should I allow a pathetic omega in my cabin?"
I should have known that Aiden would be cold and callous towards me. After all, he wanted to marry Cara but got stranded with me. "I'm...we are going to be bonded soon."
The Alpha looked at me from top to bottom, once more, with visible disgust. "Right." He finally drawled. Without another word, he took a step back, leaving the door open.
"Alpha—" I called behind him, but the rest of my words died when his eyes changed. Canines bared down his chin, and I flinched.
"Don't talk to me unless I specifically address you." He growled. "Understand?"
Nodding at him, I shrank at the tone of his voice and leaned down to grab my suitcase. My cheeks flushed from embarrassment. For some reason, I expected him to help me and carry the luggage inside. Once inside the cabin, I let the warmth surround me. A sigh escaped my lips as I stared at the modern plush interior, polished floors, soft feathery rugs, the beautiful furniture, and the grand staircase directly in front of me.
"I am going out to talk with my father." He suddenly said, walking through the house. "Don't step out of this cabin. Got it?"
I hummed, my arms pulled together. "Okay."
"And one more thing," The Alpha stepped closer and stared down at me. He was almost a foot and a half taller than I and was as menacing as he intended to be. "This," He gestured between both of us. "Is a mistake. I
don't care about you; I will never care about you. So it's better if you stay away from me. Understand?"
Tears burned in my eyes. I averted my gaze and swallowed around the large lump in my throat. "Yes, Alpha."
Aiden took a step back, turning on his feet and slamming the door behind him.
