01. The Hunt Begins.

Rani's pov

On a wet rainy night, I went down to the nearby liquor store. Whenever Uncle Jon, had company, he’d always send me out here to get his usuals, Jack Daniels and a pack of cigarettes. The owner Tim wasn’t allowed to sell me these things since I was underage, and I wasn’t so happy getting these in the first place. Luckily for me, I wasn’t buying these items tonight.

Ever since my cop father died on the job, my notorious uncle took me in when I was nine years old. He wasn’t happy about it since he saw me as a liability in his line of work. My mother? Well, she left me when I was five. She was supposed to by the legal guardian but she failed to turn up, and now I was stuck with my safe cracking, uncle Jon.

“Hey, Rani.”

“Sup Tim.” We greeted each other as usual.

Tim knew who Jon was since he carried a pistol on him. Lucky for me, he wasn’t around.

I went towards the refrigerators at the back, I got a call on my phone.

"Hello?" I picked up the anonymous call.

"Rani! Listen to me very carefully, get out of town right now."

It was a call from my uncle who was currently in the penitentiary jail. What was he stressing about now? We already paid the rent.

"Uncle Jon, calm down what's going on?"

"Rani they've killed Luther." He stressed over the line.

That weed-stinking douchebag that was supposed to be his lookout. Is dead?!

I froze upon hearing this.

"What? But you guys are in jail?"

They were both caught red-handed, two months ago.

"Rani, I don't have time to explain. Look, remember what I told you to hide?"

How could I forget? It's what got him into trouble in the first place. Those damn diamonds.

"Yeah."

"Take it to Carlito."

Ok, he's officially crazy. Carlito was the one that roped in my safe-cracking uncle and Luther to steal in one of the biggest casinos in Vegas.

More importantly, Carlito was not just a normal bad guy with a gun. He was more of a dangerous man on the supernatural side.

"Uncle Jon, he's a wolf!" I whisper and yelled trying not to draw attention to myself.

Ever since the race of wolves had appeared on Earth 8 centuries ago, the race of men had no chance of standing up to them, They were five times faster, stronger, and more intelligent and they had a life span of over six hundred years on them and guess what. They aged slowly. And finally, they were of course superior to us. If we valued our lives, we had no choice but to fall in line, the Kings and Queens fell into submission as they took over, town by town, city after city and conquered many lands and countries along the way.

Of course, as time went by, packs formed and so did the alliance with men.

In this modern day and age, we all belonged to a pack. We were governed by them, and if fell out of submission or turned against them we’d end up in jail, for a long, long time, and sometimes "accidents" happened that took their lives. Thinking about it now, I'm pretty sure a pack member no doubt killed Luther.

Luckily for me, I lived in a town that was less populated by the canine club. Sure we had an Alpha, but they hardly patrolled our small town.

Not all Alphas are rich. Some make poor gambling decisions and quite frankly end up broke. Soon after they obviously join a pack or even worse. They go Rogue. In order for them to guard our towns and cities, the Alpha demands to be paid a large amount. These payments also go towards his pack members that help recruit to protect us. If the Mayor of the town can’t pay the Alpha the fee to protect us from rogue attacks, we are most definitely screwed.

This town was run by the local sheriff who works under the Alpha, and the crime rate was quite low in this boring town of Red Sun Valley.

Jon had brought me here away from the city three years ago to 'lay low' unfortunately two months ago the law caught up to him, and put him and his cracked-up partner behind bars.

More over Carlito was a bad traitorous werewolf, that was no doubt a friggin rogue.

"Look, he's the only one that can protect you. You need to get to him and find him at the Iguana bar."

"Where's that?"

There was a short pause of silence before he answered.

"Mexico."

"MEXICO?!"

Tim shot his head up from whatever book he was reading and looked towards me with a curious gaze. I simply smiled back and got back to the refrigerators. The old timer got back to minding his business as I carried on listening to Jon. He was talking like he was next in line to get ‘hit’.

"Just get the gems to him before those other a$$holes get to you, Rani."

I grabbed some juice drinks and sandwiches to go and paid quickly at the check-out putting my uncle on hold for a second. Tim packed my items into a brown paper bag.

“Something happening in Mexico?” Asked the old fart. He was so nosey.

“Yeah, a big party. Can’t wait to attend it.” I lied grabbing the goods in a rush.

“Well, have a good party,” Tim shouted out as I looked back at him with a short smile and a nod, secretly, not at all happy. Who were the other a$$holes Jon was talking about?

Once I got out, I continued the call.

"Uncle Jon, who are the other people you're talking about and why are they coming after me?!"

"Luther couldn't keep his mouth shut Rani, I tried to stop him but they tortured him in the cell." He sighed heavily.

"The men I robbed from are from the pack Blood Moon.”

Blood Moon pack? Never heard of them.

“Are they a new pack?”

“No. They’ve been around for centuries and they love keeping a low profile. But here’s the thing. They’re not Betas or Gammas…”

Oh yes, I forget to mention the rankings of Werewolves.

Betas were the second strongest, and Gammas were the third strongest. The fourth strongest were the humans, we were, of course, part of their food chain too but not all wolves were bad. I simply didn’t like the tone of my worried uncle, and what he was about to say to me.

“Uncle Jon? Who the hell is coming for me?!”

He took another deep sigh and started hyperventilating. Great, he’s freaking me out like a $hit storm is headed my way.

“Oh my god, you’re deep breathing is stressing me out! Spit it out!” I shouted angrily over the line.

“The Alphas of the Blood Moon pack are coming for you. Oh my god, I need a drink.” He finally said.

I chuckled out, amused at first. Well, he sure isn’t getting one in jail.

“Wait a minute, I think I heard you wrong, did you just say Alphas? Uncle Jon, every pack is known to have one leader, meaning one Alpha.”

“I know. But not this pack.” I scoffed.

“No way, I don’t believe you. That’s impossible.”

A pack with two Alphas? That’s just unheard of.

*“Rani, I kid you not. These Alphas are brothers. They don’t share the same mother, but you get the picture. They’re dangerous and loyal to one another and they both share power over the Blood Moon pack. You don't want to mess with these guys.” *

A storm was coming, so I entered the house and shut and locked the front door. I paced back and forth as he continued more.

Alphas?! What the frack!

“They're known as the Torretos and they're coming for you Rani, so do me a favour and get the hell out of town!"

"And go where uncle Jon?!"

"You're going to meet Carlito at a bar called Iguana, he's expecting you to be there in two days Rani. Please get to him he's my only ticket out of this hell hole! If you don’t do this Rani, they’ll kill me, Rani!"

The phone call ended and Rani cursed out, under her breath.

Two Alphas were hunting for her?!

"Yup. I'm going to Mexico, to meet a rogue that no doubt will end me. Yup, my life is so good right now. Uncle Jon you cr4zy A$--!!!" Rani cursed out profanities and headed up towards her room, slamming her door shut.

The next day in the early hours of the morning, Rani grabbed her duffle bag and stuffed her clothes inside.

She quickly made it towards her high school where she'd kept the special black velvet bag-like pouch in her coat locker.

One of her friends stopped her and asked where she was going, but Rani quickly stuffed the special pouch in her jean pocket and gave her a hurried reply.

"Road trip, don't ask, I'll tell you once I get back."

“Ok, but be back before the party!” She called out.

Rani didn’t quite catch watch she shouted. She had other things on her mind. Like getting down to Mexico, and giving Carlito his diamonds in exchange for her uncle’s freedom. She then quickly hurried towards her uncle's car and set off.

Hector and Damon's pov

On the other side of town.

The Torettos were on the move.

They were pissed off that the robbers stole their diamonds from them.

The notorious Alphas reached Jon's residence. After knowing his precious niece had the goods, they made it their personal mission to get it from her. They simply couldn’t trust their pack members, they’d easily be tempted to run off with the goods and a whole other chase would begin and unfortunately, they’d end up killing the rotten thieving wolf.

But this was a simple mission. They were dealing with a human girl. It would be like taking candy from a baby.

The eldest Torreto got out of the black ride followed by the youngest by 5 minutes.

Both the brothers held a mysterious beauty about them. They were well respected in the pack and ran things smoothly under their watchful eye. Many towns and cities wanted them to be their Alphas. But the Torretos were simply not interested. They were more business orientated. Women were easily attracted by their naturally powerful energy, charisma and money that radiated off them. They both could be quite charming, seductive and thrilling to get what they wanted.

One had a tendency to be quite calm and manipulative, whilst the other had an impulsive state to be rather impatient and killed quite easily.

Both of them had two things in common, they were both loyal to one another and were great trackers.

They couldn't hand this mission to their betas, since they didn't want them running off with the loot.

When it came to someone stealing their family heirlooms from them, they took it personally, for these diamonds had been passed down, from generation to generation, centuries ago. These diamonds were never to be sold. They were their good luck charms and they intended to keep it that way.

Knock// Knock

"Hello, anybody home?" Damon the ace asked.

Both the wolves were dressed in their designer business suits. They looked quite well-groomed and sleek. They waited patiently outside and heard nothing.

This was an old-looking house, and there were no security cameras about.

"Looks like no one is in?" Hector the wild card said twisting the knob with his black-gloved hand.

Both the wolves stepped inside the dark house and closed the door behind them.

They couldn't sense or hear the sound of a heartbeat inside. However, they easily could pick up on the faint scent of a female.

Small family picture frames were displayed on the shelf in the living room. It showed of a cop and a young girl looking around the age of eight or ten. More small picture frames came into view, showing Jon with the cop who looked quite similar to one another. No doubt his deceased brother.

Damon made his way through the living room and spotted a family photo, and more small picture frames on the little shelf window by the grey one-seater couch. The short bearded one huffed, he picked a photo of the Asian girl and her dear uncle Jon.

"Well, well, well." Someone clearly looked all grown up now.

"What is it?"

"This is the girl we're hunting for?"

Damon put the picture aside and Hector picked it up viewing it. She looked to be quite a young girl, no doubt in her late teens.

"I'll check the garage you check the stairs."

Damon walked away. Suddenly Hector sniffed catching a wonderful scent in the air.

He followed it upstairs going inside a room.

The room had baby blue walls, and near the dresser displayed more pictures of the girl they were searching for, posing with another girl that looked around her age. A friend no doubt. He saw two other pictures that had her male friends putting an arm around her shoulder and she looking at him in a cute kind of way.

The girl's scent was mildly strong, yet Hector couldn't sense anyone around.

More importantly.

His inner beast Achilles was stirring inside of him.

This scent was nowhere near to that of his past deceased mate. Hector's wolf hadn't come out in a long, long time and Damon grew worried about this.

With them acting as two Alphas over the pack, Damon had great strength.

However, the betas were starting to notice and even consider if Hector's wolf Achilles was alive within him anymore. He hadn’t come out to hunt in over a decade.

But that wasn't the case.

After Hector's mate died, his inner wolf had gone kind of awol. He was in a raging fury that he started killing his own kind and almost ended up becoming a rogue. To control his fury and rage, Damon knocked him out and his best friend had to intervene to put his wolf to sleep and cause slight damage to his eyes.

Hector wasn't blind.

His world was just a little blurry and he had to wear glasses in order to see more clearly.

Hector froze near the girl’s bedside. He could feel Achilles stirring inside of him, which made him clutch his chest.

It was this incredible scent.

This scent was calm.

Delightful.

Something was a miss. This scent wasn't like a normal human scent.

It was.......different.

Hector picked up the girl's pillow and deeply inhaled.

It smelt like sandalwood, after the rain.

Hector opened his eyes and glowed their silver in a sudden flash.
