Chapter 6

THIRD PERSON’S POINT OF VIEW

To say Valeria was crushed would be an understatement. She now understood why her father didn’t like it when she talked about finding her soul mate. Not only did she have to battle a god, she had to battle a god in the body of her mate. She felt like the goddess hated her.

“Valeria,” Zayne peeked into her room, “You okay?”

“No.” she let out a frustrated sigh, “I’m not okay. I’ll never be okay.”

He walked in and sat beside her on the bed. Valeria’s mind was muddied with thoughts of how she would defeat Mavros without killing her mate, but deep down she knew it was impossible. Heck, she couldn’t even kill Mavros. He was a fucking god.

“I’m sorry I told father. I was just disappointed you broke the rule.” He said.

“You know,” she faced him, “I’m glad you did what you did. If you had not told father about my mate, I don’t know what would have happened.”

Valeria screamed when someone threw a rock into her room. She covered her head with her hands and clamped her eyes shut. When she heard nothing, she went over to where the rock was and picked it up.

“Did you see anyone?” She asked Zayne who had gone to check.

“No.” He responded, going to take a look at the rock, “I don’t get it. What psycho would throw a rock into another person’s room?”

As they tried to come up with possible reasons, an arrow was shot into her room. There was a note attached to it. Zayne grabbed the arrow and read the content of the note.

I have splendid news for you, Valeria. In your father’s bedroom, there is a gift in there. You may or may not like it, but just so you know, I thought about it carefully and I think it’s a perfect gift. One more thing. Three days from now, I’ll prepare another gift for you, darling.

Love, Layton.

“Zayne, I think father is in danger.”

The twins hurried to their father’s room, both silently praying that nothing was wrong. Valeria pushed her door open, coming face-to-face with her worst nightmare. In a pool of his own blood laid Alpha King Lucas with a knife in his chest.

“Father!” She screamed, running over to him.

It was just like the nightmare she had last night. She lifted his head up and watched as her twin removed the wolfs bane laced knife from their father’s chest. A single tear rolled down her cheek when she saw blood drip down the knife.

“Fucking piece of shit!” Zayne growled, pacing up and down the room.

Logan, Melody and her mate, Carter, rushed into the room. They must have felt the bond break, but she didn’t feel it. Why didn’t she feel it? Valeria looked up from her father’s body when she felt a hand on her shoulder. It was Logan.

“You’ve got to be strong, V. Your kingdom needs you now more than ever. Mavros has made himself known to us and killing your father is probably his sick way of saying he means business. As your beta, I’d suggest you be strong and face him, or this might repeat itself. We don’t know who is next.”

He was right. She gently placed my father on the ground and stood up. The pink shirt she had been wearing had bloodstains on it. It made her angrier because that blood belonged to someone dear to her.

She stood by the corner of the bed, watching as Aphrodite ran into the room and went straight to her father’s body. Aphrodite placed her hand on Lucas’ forehead and immediately pulled away.

“Something isn’t right here, but I can’t see it.” She said.

“It doesn’t matter anymore. Layton or whatever is in him killed my father and I’ll make him pay with his blood. He might be the human vessel of the god of destruction, I don’t care. He’d better be ready for me because I’ll hit him with everything in me.” I said before leaving the room.

Her relatives who lived in the palace rushed into her father’s room just as she left. The bloody knife was still in her hand; a knife she would use to return the favor to Layton. A brokenhearted Valeria went into her room and picked up a towel before sitting on the bed. She held the knife up and just stared at it. Images of it in her father’s chest flashed through her head.

“Son of a bitch!” She yelled, throwing the knife across the room and watching as it fell in front of her closet. “I’ll fucking kill you.” She wiped her tears.

All she ever wanted was someone who would love her unconditionally and treat her like she meant the world to him. Valeria wanted the kind of love in fairytale movies, but that would never happen. Might as well get used to being a she-wolf without a mate in her life.

She turned to where the knife was and sighed. She knew she would have to bury her dad before dawn. It was a rule in the werewolf kingdom that a dead royal shouldn’t see the next sunrise. She quickly took off her bloodied shirt and put on black jeans, a black tee and a leather jacket before proceeding to put her hair in a ponytail. Her A-hole mate could show up at the funeral, and she was going to be ready for him.

After putting on her shoes, she made her way to Lucas’ room where his body still lay. Maya, Valeria’s adoptive sister, was crying her eyes out. When Valeria’s mother was still alive, she took Maya from her abusive aunt and raised her as her child. Maya was Jayde and Lucas’ first child, but because she didn’t have royal blood running through her veins, she couldn’t step up as queen.

“It’s time.” She said, gaining their attention.

Maya got up from the floor and ran to Valeria, who embraced her in a hug.

“It’s going to be okay.” Valeria lied, stroking her older sister’s back. Deep down, she knew things would never be the same without him.

“V, we’re sisters. Don’t pretend to be strong around me.” Maya pulled away from the hug, “Father had told me everything before this incident,” she swallowed, “I want you to know that I’ve got you.”

Valeria forced a smile, “I know.”

Maya patted Valeria’s shoulder and watched as she went over to help Logan and Zayne lift their father’s body. As his children, Zayne and his twin were to carry his body to where he would be cleaned up before being buried.

“Has the ground been dug?” Zayne questioned, placing his father’s body on the table to be cleaned.

“They’re almost done. In a few minutes, everything will be ready.” Logan responded, averting his gaze from the corpse and to Zayne’s face.

Valeria walked out of the room and sat on a chair outside the door. She closed her eyes and leaned her head against the wall, thinking of all the times she had spent with her father. The training, the yelling, the kisses, the hugs, the advice. She missed them all.

Even though her mother died years ago, he held on to life for his children. He ruled the kingdom as he should without losing his sanity, like most werewolves did after losing their significant other. ‘Would I meet the same fate as those wolves?’ She wondered.

A small smile formed on her face when she visualized him talking to her. Lucas was always there to keep her motivated.

“You are a queen.” He would say, “Fight like one, and be who you are meant to be.”

More tears rolled down her cheeks at the memories.

“Leave that human boy, Valeria. Your soul mate will love you more than that boy ever could.”

He was wrong. Her mate was a monster. He was a bloody Lycan who was incapable of loving. He was everyone’s nightmare.

She wiped her tears and stood up, fully determined to get rid of him. Valeria didn’t care if the goddess sent him to make them pay for the sins of a she-wolf, she would make him pay.

“Layton Hunter, pray that we never see each other again because if we do, my face will be the last thing you see.”
