Chapter 7: "Mother wants you in her Solar immediately."

Chapter 7

Rain went back to cleaning, still thinking about Lillian’s words and her sudden appearance. Rain and Lillian both knew it was a risk to be seen together by anyone outside the Library. It would make it easier for those with ill intentions to harm Rain. However, they couldn’t touch the Librarian of the Coven.

Rain thought that the plans her mother had for her that night had to be truly atrocious. A while later, after Rain finished all her cleaning duties and had stored the cleaning instruments, she was approached with the summons she had been expecting since Lillian had appeared in front of her just a couple of hours before.

Still, expecting the summons was different then the sudden appearance of her half-sister as she closed the door to the cleaning supply room. Rain jumped when she saw Bonnie, who had been leaning against the wall on the other side of the door when it was open.

Bonnie looked Rain up and down, taking in her bare dirty feet, the gray shapeless dress made of rough linen and the waterfall of tangled messy red hair. Bonnie's expression twisted with disgust, she hated thinking about the fact that she was related to this mongrel. The only good thing about her was her usefulness as a slave.

With her displeasure at having to be anywhere near Rain radiating from her, Bonnie spoke impatiently. “Mother wants you in her solar immediately.” Bonnie’s tone was scathing.

Rain was used to being addressed in such tones by her blood relations, so she wasn’t bothered. Rain nodded to Bonnie, to further acknowledge that she had received her orders, Rain said, “I will go there now.”

Bonnie snorted derisively, rolling her eyes, then she spun around and stalked off, away from Rain. After a moment Rain turned to walk down the hallway that would take her in the direction of her mothers solar.

As Rain walked down the hallways to get to her mother's room, she once again thought about what it was that her mother had planned for her. Rain thought the summons to her mothers solar was too coincidental not to be related to what had Lillian in a panic.

Rain opened the door to an oddly elegant looking solar room. The furniture in the room was hundreds of years old. The spacious room allowed the owner of the Room to have her tea while doling out orders to several people at once, without the room feeling crowded.

The round solar room was only connected to the Mansion by one wall, the rest of it, with its many floor to ceiling windows, felt like it was outside in a garden. There were several large skylights in large triangle patterns, the top points of the triangles coming together in the center of the room. The bottom of the triangle patterns lined up with the floor to ceiling windows.

There were two large floor to ceiling double doors directly across from the Mansions side entrance. They led out onto a large stone patio that was covered with a wooden pergola. The pergola was covered in crawling ivy. There were bushes of red, black, and blue roses up close to the windows of the room.

Rain’s mother was sitting in an old high back ornate chair. The wood of the chair was black, and the upholstery was black velvet, there were roses embroidered all over the black velvet with silver thread. The chair made Rain think of a Queen's throne, especially with the way her mother looked as she sat in it.

As a slave Rain was not allowed to meet her mother’s eyes, she was also to go down on her knees in front of her as she was addressed. That’s what Rain did, it made her glad her mother couldn’t stand the bare stone floor of the solar, so there were thick antique style area rugs everywhere her mothers feet would be.

Rebecca looked disdainfully down at the mongrel daughter. She hated her, hated that the male the ‘Moon Goddess’ had connected her to, had chosen this piece of trash over her. She was the head Witch of the Black Magic Coven, the status he would have had as her mate would have saved him from being a slave to the Coven.

The only thing he had to do was kill this mongrel as proof of his loyalty to her and only her. Not only did he dare to refuse to do such, he dared to reject her. She would still become furious every time she thought of it. Rebecca did find her uses for Rain eventually. Leaving her hybrid daughter a virgin had yielded some exceptional blood for her youth preservation potions.

Rebecca’s potions were the most powerful using Rain’s blood, then there was Rain’s use as an energy source for their bigger, more powerful spells. However Rebecca and the Coven was in need of fresh blood, more hybrids to use as batteries, more young virgin blood for their potions, more slaves for the Coven. They would soon have to go up against the Moon Mountain Pack again.

To come out the successors they would need to expand not only there slaves, but the amount of members of the Coven. This required breeding, and Rebecca thought that it was time for her mongrel of a daughter to contribute to the Coven in a different way now.

Several of the lower level Witch’s were being put to use as breeders tonight as well. Of course they didn’t know it, they all thought they were being invited to a banquet to court a potential mate. Rebecca thought scathingly that those Witches were really too stupid to be allowed a higher status within the Coven.

Rebecca was dressed in her usual form hugging floor length black dress. The skirt of the dress had slits on each side that went all the way up to her hips. The top was a halter that dipped in a V-shape to an inch below her breasts. Her skin was milk white, her eyes were black, just like her knee length hair and her nails. All her daughters inherited her distinctive widow's peak, even Rain.

Her expression twisted with disgust, Rebecca said, “It took you long enough to get here.”

Rain felt her stomach drop, whenever her mother spoke in that tone to her, it meant she was about to suffer. “I apologize, Master, it was not my intention to make you wait.” Rain knew better than to address Rebecca as mother, it had been a painful lesson the last time she had.

Rebecca sneered at her, impatient to have her out of her sight said, “Enough.” When the mongrel raised her head to meet her in the eyes she glared at her, not even bothering to hide her hatred.

While Rain looked at her mother, she remembered a portrait she had seen of her mother once, before the taint of black magic had changed her. Her mother had once had blue eyes and blond hair. Her mother had been able to disguise the taint at one point and time, but the blacker the soul inside the more it refused to be hidden on the outside.

With a sinister smile on her lips, Rebecca pointed to the dress she had specifically picked out for Rain to wear tonight. “You’ll be wearing that, to the banquet you and twelve other of the female slaves will be attending tonight.” The other slave girls and Witch’s would be wearing similarly revealing gowns.

The gown Rain was just ordered to wear was a dark red satin gown, overlaying the red material was black lattice embroidered roses. The bodice was a deep cut halter top, the slit down the front would sit below the bottom of Rain’s breasts. The material would barely cover them.

The corset for the dress was black with red lattice embroidered roses and tied with a bright red ribbon. The skirt of the dress would reach Rain’s ankles, but the slits up both sides of the skirt would reach the top of her hips. Horror filled Rain at the thought of wearing something so revealing.

Rebecca saw the expression of horror overtake Rain’s usually expressionless face, Rain’s torment made her smile a moment. Hiding her pleasure at Rain’s obvious discomfort, she looked at Rain with a disdainful expression and said in an impatient tone “Oh get over yourself, all the females tonight will be wearing the same type of clothing.”

Rebecca snapped her fingers and waved her hand at two of her trusted servants. They came forward, they both looked at Rain like she smelled disgusting. “This way, we will get you bathed and prepped for the banquet.” The female, Astrid, said to Rain.

Rain had caught the steel in Astrid’s gaze, she was going to be out in the dress whether she wanted to or not.

“You and your fellow slaves will be joined by twelve of the newer female apprentices to personally serve the guests attending the banquet.” Rebecca said to Rain as she was being led out by Astrid and Esther, feeling a little giddy at the thought of what was to come tonight. “Oh, one more thing, no undergarments are to be worn.”

Rebecca’s last words, had Rain’s heart skipping a beat at what her mothers cruel order implied was going to be happening tonight. The servants dragged her to a bathroom with a claw foot tub in it. They stripped her of her clothes and pushed her into the tub.

Using sponges on sticks, they scrubbed Rain until her skin turned pink. Her hair was washed so roughly, it felt like it was being torn out. Then as they rinsed her off they nearly drowned her again. After having her hair conditioned, she was pulled out of the tub and dried till her skin went from pink, to bright red.

Then they slathered her skin with lotion infused with essential oils. Her hair was pulled up and away from her face into a curly tail at the top of her head. They made sure her body was on display, her skin color went back to normal after the lotions were applied.
