Part 12

Putting on a weak smile, I made my way towards Reeds chair, draping my arm over his neck. My sharp nails dug into the Alphas shoulder blades, watching as he didn’t even flinch. I leaned forward, lips parting as I met my father's eyes.

“Dad, you should focus on getting rest instead of indulging in silly conversations,” I said.

“It’s not silly!” Reed piped from below, his lips twisting, offended.

I pressed my nails harder, letting out a breathy giggle, the hair on the back of my neck standing up. What was Reed trying to prove? The last thing I wanted was the Alpha to break the news about courting me to my father in his fragile state.

Esther made a sound, twisting her lips. “Erin, how can you talk like this to your….”

The Alpha loudly coughed, cutting her off and immediately slapping his chest and throwing the apple slice back on the plate. My mother and sister hurried to get him water while I took a step back. A breath whooshed out of my lung, colour draining my face as I realised my sister almost exposed our relationship. How did she know?

“Oh, Moons!” My father also exclaimed as he narrowed his eyes at Reed. “Your face is turning red, son.”

“I-I am fine, Uncle.” Reed choked, turning to grip my wrist in his hand, my eyes widening at the sudden action. I almost squirmed in spot, watching as he came to stand next to me. He took a swig of water from the narrow bottle, his lips wrapping around, and I tried not to stare. Why did I find that attractive? Some of the droplets slid down the corner of his mouth to which I looked away, cheeks flaming red.

“Thanks!” He handed the bottle to my mother, crinkles forming by his eyes.

“What was it you wanted to talk anyway?” My father asked, lines marring his face as he pulled the sheets to his middle.

“Oh, work stuff. Now that Erin is here, I can talk to her all about it. Please excuse us.”

From the corner of my eyes, I saw my sister beam, sliding away and making way for us. I gave her a pointed glare, hoping that would be sufficient to tamp down the extra behaviour.

Reed did not let go of my hand, sliding the door open and closing it behind us. As soon as we were out, I pulled away from my wrist, rubbing at the tingling skin and missing the warmth that came with it. The Alpha flared his nose, slowly turning around to face me.

“Were you trying to kill me in there with your nails?”

I crossed my arms against my chest. “Only if it was that easy.”

“Aww, your concern for me is truly touching.” He dryly snorted.

I shrugged in response, only to realise we were falling back to our old ways. And the last thing I needed right now was Reed climbing back into that space and filling it and digging deep until he got down to everything I kept buried.

“Why did you come here? You were almost going to ask my father about courting me! Have you lost it?!”

He looked around before finally meeting my eyes, his jaw set tight, squaring his shoulders. “No, I was not. What do you take me for, Erin? I am here to see Uncle Adam because I truly care for him.”

Guilt swarmed my belly, but I quickly let it deter, forcing the anger in my voice. “What about Esther? I am sure you were the one to tell her about us.”

“That’s because your sister assumed that I was interested in courting her, so I had to clarify.”

“Why would she think that?” I spluttered, my eyes darting towards the closed door.

“It’s a long story.”

A sigh escaped out of his lips, his body slouching and head tilting down. From up

close, I could see the purple hues under his eyes, the five o clock shadow and lines marring his forehead. “You should ask your sister.”

“I will.” I huffed. “Why did you tell Nurse Jasmine?”

“What was I supposed to tell her then? Everyone is going to know about us eventually, so there’s no point hiding.” Reed said with a scoff. “Besides, I am only trying to provide the best treatment for Uncle. He is someone I deeply care about even if you don’t seem to believe it.”

The sheer thought of his words made me feel so uneasy that my hands started trembling at my sides. “I-I…I just thought we could wait till he is fully recovered before announcing.”

“Okay.”

An awkward silence settled around us, the hair on my arm standing up. I was at a loss for words because I expected Reed to argue or have a temper tantrum. The Alpha quickly caved in and was mature about it.

“Good.” I cleared my throat. “I’m sure you’ve got more important things to do than chat with me. So I will see you soon.”

“Why does it feel like you are trying to get rid of me?”

“I-I am not!”

“You—” He took a step close, his tone husky and warm. “—are not a very good liar, Erin.” And with that, he walked past me, leaving only a whiff of his aftershave and natural scent—vanilla and freshly brewed coffee. I subconsciously held my breath until I couldn’t hear his footsteps anymore before groaning out loud and rubbing both hands on my face.

“You are a vision, baby,” Rowan said with a lazy drawl, his eyes boring into mine. I shivered, the deep resonance of his voice tickling up the back of my spine.

A whimper fell from my throat as he reached down and pushed the shirt up around my chest. I gasped as he exposed my nipples to the cold air, making them harden. My back arched at the action, eyes-rolling. His hands caressed my body, thumbs occasionally rubbing against the pink nubs and making me let out tiny, gasping breaths, “Good?” I heard from the Alpha above me.

“Y-Yes,” I confirmed, wrapping my legs around his waist and pulling him closer. Rowan came quickly, hips falling into the dip of my body and hands bracing on either side of me. “More, please,” I said in a high voice.

“Is it alright if I touch you, baby?”Reed whispered against my skin. One of his hands was also resting against my plush stomach, fingers playing with the hem of my pants. A chill ran down my spine at the deep, wanting timbre of his voice, and I nodded.

“Use your words, omega.”

“Yes”

As his brother slid away from me, Reed made his home next to me and ran his hands along the heated skin of my side, thighs, towards my tummy. He stopped a few inches short and then ran his hands back down, pulling a whine from my throat with the movement.

I tossed my head back as Rowan continued tweaking and rubbing his cold thumb over my nipple. Before I could take in, he closed his hot mouth over the bud, his tongue laving and sucking. I tangled my fingers in his curls and pushed the Alpha closer, arching my chest up against his mouth at the same time.

Reed, on the other hand, continued mouthing at my pants, wetting the material. He looked up, the loose strands of his hair falling over his face, a sheen of sweat sticking on his skin.

“Can I?”

“P-Please.” I almost choked on my breath.

With a devilish smirk taking over his face, Reed pulled away and sucked a finger into his mouth. Our eyes clashed, my breath slowly picking up at the action, watching as he popped it out and left a damp trail along the curves of my thighs, letting the cool bedroom air chill my skin.

I cried at the combination of goosebumps and the feeling of his heated stare on my exposed body. His fingers wound around the edges of my panties, and with one pull, he ripped it off my body. I saw his throat bob at sight and felt a rush of power.

I had to bite onto the back of my hand to keep a loud sound from coming out at the filthy sight of Reed licking between my thighs, his eyes dark and predatory. My head was thrown back, hands reaching for something, fingers tangling in the blanket.

At the sound of a blaring alarm, I blinked awake in the early morning, glimpses of the hazy, lightening sky peeking in through the curtains. Slowly, I exhaled, jolting in my bed and looking around only to realise that I was in my room. Blinking, I felt a peculiar mixture of antsy and horny, my skin bathed in sweat yet cold to the touch, and fingers trembling while curled in the sheets.

It was just a dream. I thought quietly.
