Part 2

The smell of thick pheromones trailed down the hallway, musky and with a tinge of dark chocolate. My inner wolf almost whined at that, ears turning bright red as few onlookers turned and reacted at the sound, my toes curling in shame. It was embarrassing how my omega responded to a mere scent. Apologising, I sped up.

Why did the Professor call me to his office?

Did he recognise me? The thought made shivers run down my spine, cheeks burning. I tightened my grip around the straps of the backpack, teeth sinking on my bottom lip at the possibility. Those days were better kept hidden and in the past, at least for my ego.

The Alpha looked extremely attractive, even more than before. It was not fair for my sanity. Gone was the boyish grin, mop of curls and nervous smile replaced by a mature look and a day old stubble, sharp jawline and straight hair. If not for his familiar scent and those moss green eyes, I would not have recognised him. The Professor aged like a fine wine, dressed in a cute black blazer that showed off his tall, bulky figure.

Also, his surname was different from what I remember. That’s why it did not hit me while reading my course module. Abel is a common name from where I come, so it did not dawn on me that he would be the same one—the Alpha I had been crushing on since forever.

Naya and I exchanged numbers after class, and I promised to see her in the Linguistics lecture soon. We had half an hour break in between anyway, so I decided to follow Alpha Abel’s instruction.

The hunt for Professor Leone’s office took a lot longer than I anticipated after I hurriedly turned at the edge of the hallway. The rooms lined up did not follow any logical sequence, so I ended up knocking on the door with his name engraved on it nearly ten minutes after the intense search.

My knees felt weak as I could already hear the sound of his boots tapping against the floor. I clenched my eyes shut, waiting until I listened to the Alpha yell for me to come in. Exhaling a deep breath, with shaky fingers, I pushed at the door and stepped inside the sunlit room.

My eyes widened, gawking at the sheer amount of books lining the shelves and a butterfly painting by the wall. A lone one, but it had intricate details, almost like writing, but I did not inspect it closely. The carpet matched along with the drapes. Potted plants were placed neatly along the window sill; the humid air flowed through the cracks. Slowly I took in the vast desk separating us, Abel sitting on the other side with his head tilted.

As soon as he pointed towards the empty chair in front of him. The chair in front of the desk looked a bit unstable, the sound of wood scraping along the floor. I gritted my teeth together at that, palms getting clammy. I hurriedly sat down, my hands tangled in my lap and chewing on my bottom lip nervously. For a second, I was glad the room was empty except for the Alpha so no one could witness me fret.

“Emma Roberts,” He said in a stern tone, the Alpha clearing his throat soon after. I tried to not stare at his hand, gripping at the electronic pencil, which looked tiny in between his fingers. “You were class valedictorian and had been working since seventeen years old and won a national award for your essay last year. That’s quite an achievement Miss Roberts, but you seem to have taken a year gap. I tried to find a record for that year, but there’s nothing in here.”

A lump formed in my throat as Abel shut the laptop, his eyes digging into me. It appeared as if he could see right through the layers of my clothing, the secrets I had swallowed. Straightening my back, I met his stare, trying to appear confident.

“Is that why you called me in here, Professor? To satiate your curiosity?”

“Answering a question with another question! Interesting.” He clicked his tongue in annoyance. “Are you always this impatient, Miss Roberts?”

I turned red at that but still had my chin tilted in his direction. My legs were ready to give out any moment, but still, I did not squirm in my seat.

A delirious snort escaped past his round pink lips. With his eyes trained on me, the Alpha got on his feet. Confused lines marred my face as I saw him tug on his blazer. My eyes widened as I saw the coffee stain on the left side of his arm.

No way! It was the exact stain that the stranger Alpha had on his shirt. Are they both the same people? How could I not notice it? Then again, my glasses were on the ground, so that might be the reason.

“Remember something, Miss Roberts?”

I almost choked on my breath, breathing turning loud and my hands tightening together. My mouth opened and closed as he placed the blazer on the desk.

“Uh….I am so sorry, but I was getting late for my class.”

“Is that your thing Miss Roberts?” He arched his brow, hands crossing together against his chest. The action only caused me to focus on his upper body, the expanse of his shoulders and tanned skin peeking out of the shirt.

Something hot coiled in my belly, flush running down my neck. The room felt undeniably alluring, the clothes clinging to my body like a second skin. I swiped my tongue over my bottom lip before answering.

“I already apologised, Professor.”

“I am afraid that it won’t suffice.”

With that, he started unbuttoning his shirt, fingers sliding down slowly and revealing every inch of his tanned skin. A low gasp slipped past my parted lips, my body stilled in the chair as I gawked at him. What was he doing? No words were able to escape my wound up throat, heat sinking in my cheeks.

Once the last button was undone, he tugged off the shirt off his body, standing half-naked in front of me. My eyes fixated on the way his veins appeared by the neck, taking into his pecs, six abs and taut stomach. The suit pants hung low on his hips as he started inching towards me.

“W-What are you doing, sir?” I stuttered, unable to move as he leaned down and tossed his sweaty shirt to me.

“You ruined my favourite shirt, so you are going to redeem yourself.” Abel took a step back. Still, there was not enough distance between us. “The shirt is made of delicate fabrics and will be ruined if you throw in the washer, so hand wash it and have it pressed. Got it?”

I dumbly nodded my head, helplessly clutching onto the shirt. My eyes followed him closely as the Alpha turned on his feet and walked towards the tiny dresser. Ruffling through, Abel quickly picked a shirt and slipped it on before turning towards me.

“Because of you, I was ten minutes late to the first class of the semester, Miss Roberts. Unlike you, I do not have a habit of being tardy.”

I apologised again, averting my eyes and trying to look at something else for a change. The last thing I wanted was my omega to go into unexpected heat. Keep it in your pants! I reminded firmly.

Abel cleared his throat. “You can hand the shirt to me in the office, and I would appreciate it if you kept it to yourself.”

“Sorry?” I blinked at him.

“I know how omegas get when they get something from an Alpha, but this is not me trying to court you. Hope you are clear about that.”

Anger coiled in my belly at that; teeth gritted together. One thing was still intact about the Alpha—his narcissism. Then again, for someone with his looks and following, I should have expected it already.

I innocently blinked at him and hummed, “Oh don’t worry, Professor, I know my boundaries very well and no offence to you, but I have high standards for an Alpha.”

That was enough to make him sneer, brow arching and hands crossing together. He spat, face turning red, the vein

running through his forehead visible. “Excuse me?! What are you trying to imply, Miss Roberts?”

“I already said no offence, sir.”

“That does not make it better.”

I folded my lips, taking a step back with his shirt still in my hand. “Excuse me, Professor, but I have a lecture in a few minutes. I don’t want to run late again, so I will see you.”

“This is not over, Miss Roberts!” His voice echoed as soon as I shut the door behind me, exhaling loudly. My back pressed to the cool wall, head lolling and letting out a breath I had been holding for a while.
