Chapter 5 - Dinner Disagreement

Julia quickly dashed to the door to open the door as she heard the knock. She was the only one in the chamber as Michael had went to their family dinner.

She opened the door gently. She didn't know who could have knocked but she was sure it wasn't the Queen mother.

She would also be at the dinner by now.

She opened the door slowly and found a guard at the door.

"The king summons you" the guard said strictly without bringing his held up chin down.

Julia looked behind herself if there was someone else there that the guard might be talking to.

She was the only one here. She was actually the one this up looking guard was addressing.

"Me?" she couldn't stop herself from asking in amazement.

"The king summons you" the guard repeated like he was not allowed to use any different word. He took off before Julia could digest the message again.

She quickly followed him. The guards steps made noise as he walked smartly to the dining hall. They both entered at the same time.

Everyone was at the table. The table was filled with varieties of food in excess. It was sure they were not going to finish the food.

"She is a maid" Michael said like he was not in support of her presence.

"Come here and sit down" the Alpha king pointed to a seat for her.

Julia sat down slowly. Queen Teresa was looking away. Michael was also not all over her as he used to be.

She was already expecting all these strange actions from them. The only thing weird to her here was the eldest heir, James.

He was looking at her since she had come in. He was now lost, his attention had been shifted away from the food in his front.

Julia felt embarrassed. She bowed her head as a sign of respect for him but he obviously didn't notice that.

"You can eat with us" the Alpha King said while munching some food in his mouth.

The Queen Mother was still quiet. Julia knew she didn't want her here with them. She was not saying anything just because she couldn't disagree with the king.

Julia didn't see her as a threat too. The only threatening element here was James' gaze that was fixed on her.

Julia picked a strawberry from the plate served before her. She was looking up once in a while and she would still meet James' eyes stuck on her.

"Eat your food" Michael smiled.

Julia nodded with a smile. Michael was just ranting about her presence right now and he had quickly changed and was smiling upon her.

He was obviously a cunny man. He must have a lot of hidden intentions.

"James, you are not eating?" Queen Teresa asked slowly with a caring voice.

"I think I have lost my appetite" James kept looking at Julia while replying to the Queen. He stood up suddenly and wanted to leave.

"Stop!" the Alpha King yelled suddenly.

James stopped. He waited impatiently with heavy breaths to hear what his father was going to say.

The Alpha King took his time to clean his mouth with a napkin. He waved to James to come back to his seat which he had took some few steps away from.

"You are one of the reasons why this dinner was more important than every other dinner" he finally let out to James.

"A reason for this dinner? I thought this is just another dinner together" James sounded confused.

"Everyone, we are riding out to Fandor to ask for their king's daughter hand in marriage" the Alpha King announced.

"Really?" Queen Teresa smiled in surprised. "Congratulations, James" she added.

James was motionless for some time. He finally started chuckling.

"I know you must like that" the Alpha King moaned delightfully.

"No man will be sad at the mention of his bride" Queen Teresa replied the Alpha King.

"No!" James said sternly and paused. "I don't want any bride right now. I think you should have told me about this before coming here. This isn't the right time for me to do this. She just died" James spilled wildly after getting everyone's attention.

"This is the time" the Alpha King stood up furiously. "Look around here, this is the time for you to do this" he fumed.

"I look around" James looked at everybody one after the other. He fixed his eyes on Julia again after getting to her.

"I don't care if he marries a maid that he bought with five thousand gold coins. All I wanted is time to get my head right" he proposed.

"You should continue to live after her death, not dying alive. You should understand that" the King Alpha advised in anger.

"And I am not going to marry my maid" Michael said weakly.

"This isn't the time, Father. There will be enough time to do that. Just spare me this moment" he pleaded.

"We will set out in the next three days. The three days will be the time you needed to get your head wherever you want to put it" the Alpha King left in anger.

James also walked outward after standing clueless for some minutes.

"James! James!!" Queen Teresa called out as he was leaving.

"You should know better, you are a mother" he stopped to give Queen Teresa his response.

"This is the first time a dinner would end this way. Do you enjoy the show of the royal family fallout?" Michael asked Julia silently.

She felt sorry. She wouldn't have seen this if she was not here and she was not supposed to be here.

"Every family have a time they disagree over decision" she said reluctantly. She knew Michael wouldn't let her be unless she gave him an answer.

"It is time to go" he rose up quickly.

Julia also got on her feet immediately.

"Are you also leaving me at this table?" Queen Teresa asked anxiously.

"The dinner is already concluded" Michael said hastily. He tugged Julia's hand and went out.

They both walked slowly down the hallway back to his chamber. They walked like newly wedded couples. Julia wasn't comfortable with that.

She kept looking back to see if the Queen was not coming behind them. She would hate her more if she found them like this.

Michael was obviously occupied with thoughts. He was definitely thinking about something very dear to him but yet,he kept squeezing Julia's hand.

Julia stopped and took his hand out of his. She let him walked ahead while she followed quietly. That was how they should be.

Michael just stared at her only once. He was too busy with his thoughts. He didn't say anything. They just kept going silently.

"The king is right, James should have a wife by now" Michael said loudly as they got in to the room. "He is going to be the next king" he concluded.

Julia pretended not to hear anything. She thought he might have mistakenly said that out loud.

"I know you have experienced a lot today, the Queen not welcoming you with open arms and James staring you down before his face off with the king but that didn't mean you should lose your tongue" he was definitely talking to her right now.

Julia swallowed some spittle and sighed. She was surprised Michael knew James had been looking dead at her.

"I don't really know what I have done to offend him" she groaned.

"Forget about him and let's talk about his bride. Shouldn't he get a wife as the next king?" Michael asked her.

Julia couldn't say anything. She shouldn't be interfering in their issues and Michael had already said something relating to that.

"You don't have anything to say?" he would not give up until she say something.

"I thought you want to become the king too" Juliet broke words. She was not sure if that would anger him but she was certain about his ambition.

"What makes you think that? I am the young heir, he comes before me" he said with a faint smile.

"Your mother call you King Michael. You steered away from me when I threatened you with the throne" Julia wanted him to know she was very certain.

"You are very observant, aren't you?" Michael smiled. "What do maids do to their master?" he asked coyly turning away from her.

Julia was scared a bit. She thought he had become angry because of what she just said.

"They serve their master" she answered quickly.

"You are going to serve me" he asserted.

"I will do that willingly, I will tend to your needs, be on alert to obey your command" she rattled.

"I will be sending you on an errand. I want you to know that is a very hard thing for me to do because I want you with me always" he paused and turned back to her.

"But I needed to do this" he said sadly.

Julia was confused by what he was saying. She couldn't make anything out of it.

Michael was really cunny and incomprehensible.
