Chapter IV: Room 514

The wide and quiet hallway welcomed me as the door opened. There is no one here but me. A deafening silence covered the whole place but it feels so comforting. The hallway is so wide and large that it can probably gather more than a hundred different races. I looked up and was even more amazed to see that the roof of the building was transparent. I could clearly see the blue color of the sky.

I continued walking and I can’t help but to be impressed even more. I enjoyed observing the colorful paintings on each wall of the hallway. It moves as if it has a life of its own. I wonder what are the stories behind it.

When I reached the end of the hallway, I turned to the right and there saw the elevators lined up. I don’t know where I’m going but I just follow what my mind says. An elevator opened automatically when I landed in front of it. Without hesitation I went inside.

"What floor?"

I almost jumped when someone suddenly spoke. A shrill voice soared in my hearing. My heart is pounding. For a moment, I was sure that I am the only one here inside.

"Hi!"

My eyes widened when a pixie fairy appeared in front of me. I didn't catch up right away because I was so surprised. I was too stunned to speak. She was only the second creature I saw today next to the headmaster. The smile she gives me is so bright and beautiful. I can’t afford not to reciprocate that with a beautiful smile as well.

"Hello!" I shyly greeted back at her.

She is so tiny that I think my smallest finger could par on her size.

“You… are gorgeous, missy. Heavenly beautiful! ” She looks enchanted when she said that.

My cheeks burned up when I heard that.

“I’m Willow, elevator operator here at Laurent University.” Oh, what a cute name she has.

“Where are you going, young lady?” she asked with her cute tiny voice. Her eyes were twinkling while looking at me.

“Hello, Willow. I am Amaris. Uhm, my room is in 514…” I answered softly, enough for her to hear.

I saw the number 5 glow as she pushed the button. It didn't take long either because it also opened immediately.

“Thank you so much, Willow…” I smiled and thanked her for the service and help she gave me.

The redness on his cheek did not escape my sight. “It is so nice to meet you, missy! You are too heavenly for this world. See you around, Amaris! ”

I waved at her once again before heading out from the elevator.

Based on my schedule, my room number is 514 and History is the first subject I need to attend to.

A long quiet hallway welcomed me once again. I saw different doors that were constantly closed so I can’t see who and what is inside. At the top of it you can see what room number they are so I didn't have a hard time distinguishing it. I just kept on walking until I reached the room of my first class.

I was too enthralled with the beauty of the surrounding that I somehow forget that I was nervous. But now that I could have the glimpse of my classroom, I feel like my heart will come out from my chest. I can no longer be comfortable in my position. It's like I want to step back again and run away from here. I don’t know if I’m going to knock or just wait for someone to come out. I was almost deafened by the force in my chest.

"Uh, Miss… do you need anything?" I almost got stumbled from my feet when a voice spoke behind me. I was contemplating if I would look or just run away from this creature, but disrespect was not included in the options. Mamita never taught me to be like that.

I heaved a sigh before facing her.

"Oh my god!" A loud gasp was the first thing I got from her when I faced her.

A beautiful woman wearing glasses is in front of me. She was holding a few pieces of books and she looks like she is in a hurry but still give me a second. Her shoulder-length brown hair matches her brown skin. While looking at her I immediately realized what her race is. The woman in front of me is a witch.

"H-hi." I smiled shyly.

Her hand is covering her mouth and her eyes were twinkling as she looked back at me. She isn't moving nor blinking her eyes. Is there a problem with her or me? Is there something wrong with my face?

“Uhm, I’m Amaris. Are you… are you also a student here in Room 514?” I spoke once again to get her attention.

Gladly, she nodded her head but seems like she is not yet in the right state. I even saw how she slapped her face, not once but twice. The loud tapping on his cheek did not escape my hearing.

“Hey, miss! D-don't hurt yourself.” I couldn’t help but worry.

Why is she hurting himself? The redness on her cheek is visible. That probably hurts.

"Are you okay?" I take a step forward.

Why does she want to hurt himself?

She cleared her throat. “Uh, n-no! Don't mind me!” She shook her head. Both hands were slightly raised.

“I’m just… amazed. I am in dazed! Wow! You are stunning, missy! Beautiful is not enough to describe your heavenly face!” Her eyes almost glazed over as she looked at me.

“I’m Mathilda.” She then raised her hand and handed it to me. “Mathilda Bennett, a witch.”

“Thank you, Mathilda. You are beautiful as well.” I gave her my most genuine smile and I saw how her face flushed.

"It is my pleasure meeting you." I hold her hand for a handshake.

"Y-you are a new student?" Her voice slightly trembled.

“The class started earlier. I just picked up this book that Professor Hipolito ordered. Come with me inside.” She held my hand to get closer to the door.

My eyes widened. I know nervousness was visible from my face.

Oh, moon goddess! Please bless and guide me for today!

Amaris, you need to calm down, okay? I whispered to myself.

Elizabeth entered first. I was just outside but I could already hear different voices coming from my classmates. They are so loud but instead of making a fuss, I was even more excited as I listened to them. From now on, it is not only me, Mamita, and Mr. Bear.

“We have a new student, Mr. Hipolito.” I heard Mathilda said.

“Yes. Is she already there?” Another voice enveloped my ear, and there is a brief silence after that.

Minute later, a man who I think was in his forties appeared in front of me. This is probably Professor Hipolito. He's wearing a suit and tie. He looked strict at first because of his dark eyes but I saw how his face softened when he saw me. And I could say that he is a wolf.

“G-good morning, sir. I’m Amaris Atkinsons.” I tried my best to stay calm before bowing to pay my respects.

I didn't hear him say anything so I looked at him again just to see him staring at me. Unmoving. So… what happened to him?

I snapped a finger to pull him from reverie. I was grateful when he seemed to be back in reality.

His face flushed as if he is embarrassed. He cleared his throat twice.

“Uh, sorry. I'm Professor Hipolito, your history professor. Please come in and introduce yourself.” He smiled first before turning his back at me. He went inside and I have no more choice but follow as well.

I lowered my gaze when I walked inside. I could feel the sudden silence as if they were not in a deep commotion a while ago. All I could hear was their faint breathing and the loud beating of my heart. I looked up to make sure why they suddenly fell silent and my knees trembled even more when I saw them all staring at me.

I can’t help but think that maybe there is really something wrong with my face or my body. Almost all the creatures I see today gave the same reactions. They are looking, uh no—more like they are gaping at me as if I grew some extra heads in my body. I just want to disappear in front of them all because of the piercing looks they are giving me.

“Uh, kindly introduce yourself Ms. Atkinsons.” Professor Hipolito said calmly.

I looked at him for a moment and gave him a sweet smile before turning my attention to my future classmates. And I think he's kind of sick, because his whole face was red.

I examine the whole room. I quickly counted the creatures in my mind and there were almost less than ten inside excluding me and our professor. I even get ecstatic when I saw that they were all girls. I also noticed a lot of vacant seats. Do we still have other classmates?

“Good morning, everyone. I am Amaris Atkinsons. I am pleased to meet you all.” I bowed my head like what everyone is doing when they are introducing themselves. I also gave them my sweetest smile. I want to be friends with them.

I was too excited but their silence broke my heart. I was saddened that none of them spoke. They remained staring at me like they're reading my soul. I looked at Mathilda and just like the other girls, she's just looking at me.

I felt my heart sank. I think… they don't like me.
