Power Of Social Media

I was about to call her back when I took note of Ru's last update which was three hours ago and stared at his picture.

Gone were the makeup, earring and flashy scarfs. My friend the drag queen was gone, hidden beneath the simple denim blue shirt and plaid pants of a weekend manager -or newest intern at the limelight magazine, judging by his caption.

He really is pretty, I thought distractedly. He always had been, but without the makeup and brazen attitude, he looked very beautiful, approachable....and very effeminate, the very reason his father had disowned and thrown him out into the streets.

When he was not partying it up -even then- RuPaul lived on social media, the first with the breaking news and celebrity gossip. He had managed to gain quite a reputation for himself and I needed that popularity right now, but he had chosen that exact time to become an intern and ditch social media. I stomped my foot angrily and cursed my luck.

Damn it, damn it, damn it. What the hell should I do now?

'okay, Josie, just think this through.' I muttered to myself, trying to stave off the panic. Anna can't help, I don't have the needed fanbase to make any real impact and RuPaul was slaving away at the magazine....magazine!

I was brought up short by my epiphany. "Idiota!" I yelled, smacking myself in the head.

I'd been going about this the wrong way the entire time. Of course I didn't have the needed fanbase, but I don't need to. Father had the business clout and Vladimir's reputation made the two of them headline news.

I smiled to myself in relief and focused on my phone once more.

A few swipes later, a tap on his name and few rings later, his heavily accented voice rumbled, "Jo Jo. How ya doing?"

"Not good. I need your help." I replied, getting straight to the point.

"Whatcha need babygirl?"

"Journalists. the most influential in the country. I want them at the Gran hotel in three hours." I declared succinctly.

"Uh...why? That's short notice. People are busy following up news darling. We are actually interviewing the mayor. Did you know he was caught with his pants down with his secretary?" RuPaul singsong.

"That's another politician abusing his power. Do you know how many of those there are? What I have is major headline news. Enough to cement your position as a legitimate journalist."

RuPaul inhaled sharply. If he wanted nothing else in life, it was to become one of the big fishes in the industry. And right now, dear RuPaul was scenting blood and his teeth was gnashing to sink in for the kill. "Tell me what you got, and maybe, just maybe, I can do something."

"Not good enough. Get me a press conference with top journalists from every top newspaper in this country, and I will give you the opportunity to climb up the ladder at limelight." I boasted.

"Really? Your news is that big? Why can't you tell me?"

"Why tell you now when you can simply post it on your website? No. We need impact."

"We?"

"Yes we. I need the impact to spread the fire and you need it to be more than another social media influencer. Oh, and the news is about Vladimir Sedof." I heard him gasp theatrically.

"Vladimir Sedof? As in the mega rich hottie who also happens to be a mafia? What business do you have with him? Are you in trouble?" His earlier excitement turned into grave concern and that, more than anything gave me pause. What was it about this Vladimir Sedof that made everyone leery?

"My family is in trouble Ru, and I need your help. Please get the press there as soon as you can, it's very important." I didn't bother to listen before hanging up on him. He would move heaven and Earth and drag people by the ropes if he had to, but he would have exactly what I needed.
