Chapter 8

“Don’t worry, son. I know that you are going through a lot of things right now. I know you find it so hard to understand everything that’s happening. But one day, you will. God made this happen for a reason. God is good even in the darkest time and you feel like you cannot feel His presence. Just have faith in him. You are going to be healed. And one day you will find yourself walking again with your own feet. For now, just stay strong,” his mother murmured to him.

He couldn’t hide the pain that he was feeling anymore. The tears that he was trying to hold suddenly fell. He felt his vision was also getting blurry.

Levi felt the tightening of his chest.

He looked outside of the house through the open window. Even if it was broad daylight, he couldn’t see clearly because of how blurry his vision was. The tears continued to flow from his eyes.

He never thought that this would be happening to him.

Never in his wildest dream that he imagined he wouldn’t be able to walk.

Levi finally broke down. All those emotions that he kept on himself finally came out. His shoulders were shaking while he was crying while he was hugging his mother’s waist. He poured out all the tears he had been holding since the day he found out about the accident. He had been suffering from depression because of his situation and he couldn’t accept the fact that his fiancée, Cameron, didn’t care anymore for him.

He couldn’t believe that the woman abandoned him just like that. He felt so broken. Because of Cameron, he felt miserable. Maybe, it could have been different if the woman she loved was on her side.

Though he knew to himself that he couldn’t force her to love him in his condition.

They were in that position when his father arrived.

“What’s going on here?”

He immediately wiped his tears. Then, he looked at his father.

“Wow, Eric. It’s great that you are here. Come on and join me. Let’s have a party. Help me grill this pork belly that I bought,” his father said in a cheerful voice.

“Sure, Uncle, but what’s the occasion?” Eric said in a voice wondering as he looked at his dad.

His dad just shrugged his shoulders.

“Well, I am going to celebrate this day as my son has been discharged from the hospital. I believe this is a sign of hope. I know that one day he is going to be able to walk again and swim as much as he wants. This face will be chased by women. He is not going to court them, but they will be the one who will run after my son,” his father said.

He knew that he was just trying to cheer him up and thought everything was just giving him pain.

“Honey, why are you talking like that?” His mother yelled at his dad.

“Mom, it’s okay. Dad is right. I am going to walk again and swim as much as I wanted. I just need to be strong and follow everything that the doctors are saying,” he said and then forced a smile on his lips.

His dad smiled and nodded at him.

“You heard that? See, your son is telling the truth. That’s it, son. You must be strong whatever you are going through. Give the fight a good fight,” his father said and then showed his fist punching the air which made him laugh.

"Yes Dad, fighting."

He spent his day with his parents and best friend, Eric. He was having a conversation with them when he received a call from his coach.

“Hello, Levi?” His coach greeted him as soon as the call got connected.

“Yes, coach,” he said.

“How are you?”

“I can say that so far so good. I am sitting in the wheelchair at least and no longer in the hospital,” he tried just to make a joke with his current situation.

He just wanted a light mood and not to dwell with whatever negative that happened to him.

He heard his coach chuckle.

“Okay, so next time, I should be hearing from you that you are already walking instead of sitting in a wheelchair,” his coach said, making his lips in one line.

“Coach, you called? Is there anything wrong?”

“No, nothing. I just almost forgot to tell you. We are going to have a live interview tomorrow,” his coach said.

“Can I attend? I mean, do you want me to?”

He heard his coach let out a deep sigh.

“Levi, please listen to me, my dear. I saw and watched Cameron’s interview. I have known you since you started your career, and I couldn’t believe everything that she had said. You are not that kind of person. This is the right time for you to defend yourself,” his coach said which made him think.

He fell into a deep thought as there were a lot of things started to pop inside his mind and he didn’t know what exactly he should be thinking of.

Was it really right for him to speak about it in public? Was it right to defend himself from the lies his girlfriend fabricated? Was it right to let the people know how wicked his girlfriend was? A lot of questions were running in his head at the moment. He didn’t want to get the sympathy of people this way. He didn’t want to look pathetic.

Was it even important now to let people know his side? He just felt that he didn’t owe anyone an explanation but what his coach said made him a bit confused.

He was massaging his temple as he felt a sudden flicking pain on it. Levi closed his eyes as he was starting to think about the right things that he should be doing.

He was wondering if it was okay for him to show up and speak in public about his situation right now and tell the truth that he was abandoned by his girlfriend when she found out the accident that happened to him.
