Chapter 7
Chloe's POV:
The party had carried on and it was time for the first dance. Marcus and I were required to open the dance floor, so we moved to the middle where the crowd had parted, giving a large space in the middle.
He took my hand in his just as the music started and we began to move. His yeps were smooth and precise, while mine were a little misplaced.
I had practiced dancing with my father, for the day he was going to give me away to my mate. If he had been here today, I bet his eyes would have watered, while the whole audience will tire from my mother's loud sobs. A sad smile snuck it's way into my lips, as I will the tears away. Today was a happy day and I couldn't let my past to ruin it!
“They can't seem to take their eyes off you, I feel like punching some of them,” he bent to whisper in my ear.
I scan around the room, where I met the stink eyes of most ladies, even those who were of other clans. “I see more of deathly glares than love and affection,” I whispered back with a laugh, not showing that it troubled me.
“Ignore them baby, they are just jealous.” I didn't move away when he brought his lips down on mine, but that was until I felt his erection poking at my lower belly. “Don’t move away baby, I want to hold you.”
I scowled. “Whoever gets horny in public? Are you running mad or something?” I whispered, hoping that no one would notice. “If you spend a day without embarrassing me, would that change or name or title?”
And he had the nerve to chuckle.
I narrowed my eyes into slits, showing him that whatever got him amused, I was not quite catching on the joke.
“Ehem!” He cleared his throat. “I would behave properly.” I raised a questioning brow and he ventured. “And I would try not to get horny, even if my sexy wife is in my arms, looking as shagadelic as always,” he ended with a dramatic sigh.
I rolled my eyes, burying the side of my face in his chest. I had more wine than I had ever taken before and it was kind of getting to my head and making me tipsy. “How long do we have to be in here?”
I asked.
“For at least two more hours. Why? Are you tired?”
I nodded, still not lifting my head off his chest. “My legs feel tired and I could use some fresh air, do you mind?”
“Not at all! You go on first, I'll have a word with Marcus and join you outside.” He pulled off his Suit Jacket, and put it on my shoulders. “You will need this when you get out there...”
I pecked his cheek, making my way outside the hall. The night air was chilly, just as Marcus had said. The wind whispered as it blew past me, taking my hair along with it. I clutched tighter to the coat, wrapping it around my body.
I stepped away from the door, went down the three stairs and soon, my feet hit the bare earth. I looked up at the sky to see that no stars had appeared today, and it served as a sad reminder that my parents were not her to see me today. It would have been their greatest joy to see me being given away to the love of my life.
I heaved a heavy sigh, shutting my eyes as I let the cool breeze cool my face. I remained that way until just like a vision, I saw my grandfather standing right in front of me. My eyes suddenly flipped open and yes, he was standing right there.
I yelped, staggering backwards. How could it be? How could I have seen him with my eyes closed? There was no mistaking it, I had seen him right the way he stood right now, with the same bare look etched on his face.
“You saw me with your eyes closed, didn't you?”
I refused to reply, only taking a step backwards when he moved towards me. My mind went into overdrive, as different thoughts surfaced. What could he be doing here on a day like this? What did he want from me? How did he know where to find me.
I think my my lack of a reply should have given him his answer. He laughed, contentment going over his features. “You have so much abilities than I ever thought you would possess, it's like you took after me! Not even your mother, could do what you just did.”
With the mention of my mother's name, my anger rose. And before I could stop myself, I snarled at him. “Don’t call my mother from that evil mouth of yours,” I snapped, my chest heaving as I took deep breaths.
He cocked one dark eyebrow, amusement glinting in his eyes as he stared me down. “I see you remember me,” he started in an icy voice that made a chill to run down my spine. “That is a good thing, because I hate introductions.”
I wanted to say something else, buy I held myself back when I suspected that he was playing games. He watched me for a while and when I still did not speak, he ventured:
“It is sad that you get crowned and married without bothering to inform your grandfather,” he sighed dramatically, placing a hand over his chest in fake hurt. “But you should have at least invited your brother, Angelo. Jason told me that you both had quite the sibling relationship. How stupid could you be, to go ahead and marry him as if him marking you was not enough?!”
“That is none of your business,” I managed to grit out through clenched teeth. “I will be with who I want to be with.”
He gave an all so familiar laugh, his eyes glinting with wicked mischief as he gave me a quick once over. “You remind me of her every day, your mother I mean. She said those same words to me twenty years ago, and she paid the consequences for disobedience. Don't be like that Chloe, don't be.”
I went stiff inside, all of my blood rushing to my head and making it feel heavy. I stared wide eyes at the man in front of me, the fear of him lurking in the dark all these time and watching me, gripped me and I couldn't stay still as I trembled.
“Sweetheart,” he mocked. “Why do you look so pale? Are you unwell?” He tried to touch me, but I swatted his hand away. “I knew it, I knew that you remembered everything but they still doubted me,” he said more to himself than to me, as he started pacing with his hands folded together behind his back. “I know you know Angelo, but do you remember Jason? You do, don't you? How much do you remember?”
“Chloe?”
I jumped, my head whipping towards where I heard my name. I saw Marcus standing there, looking at me with a worried expression. His worry grew when he took in my pale face and he jogged to me, taking my face in his hands.
“Chloe? What happened? Did you meet someone out here? Why are you so pale?” He asked all at once.
I looked back to where my grandfather had been standing a minute ago, and he was gone. A sob escaped my lips as I clung to him, my little body trembling against his.
“Baby, you are crying,” Marcus said, lifting my head and wiping my wet cheeks. “Did any one offend you? Just tell me and I would deal with them!”
I shook my head. “No, nobody offended me. “Take me away from here please, take me where he wouldn't be able to reach me.”
With no further arguments, Marcus lifted me into his arms and after using his eyes to rake all over the place to be sure that they were no wondering eyes, he used vampire speed and ran with me all the way back home. He only put me down when we got into our bedroom.
He put me down on the bed, going back to lock the door and in few seconds, he was beside me. “What happened?”
I let his grab my face and I turned to him, in order to let him read me. Did, meeting my eyes and his started to growl, his face slowly forming into an ugly sneer. “That bastard, of all nights his chose today? What a dick!” He held me to him and my buried my my face in the crook of his neck, my thoughts shifting back to my grandfather and all that he had said.
Marcus stroked my hair softly, using the tip of his fingers to gently massage my scalp as he muttered sweet nothings into my ears. He started to hum a strange lullaby and soon, my eyes started getting droopy.
I drifted off, hoping that my dreams would take me back in time to what I used to know. I hoped that it would provide me the numerous answers I craved for and that it would finally put my heart at ease.
I couldn't do anything, all I could do for now, was dream...
Marcus's POV:
Earlier at the party: I watched Chloe while she walked away, her ass rounding perfectly in the dress. I had made sure that it got designed perfectly for her, because I wanted her to steal the show and truly, she was the light of the party.
I had been busy all night, sending glares in the direction of all the men who couldn't stop gawking at her. What could I say, it wasn't easy having the prettiest woman in a room filled with pretty women...phew!
She closed the door gently and that was when I looked away and went was about going to look for Mark.
When I turned around, I jumped a little when I saw who was standing in front of me with her arms crossed over her chest(or more like: her breasts). I gave her a quick once over and she little left to the imagination. “Margaret, I do not remember inviting you to my wife's coronation, what are you doing here?” I didn't try to be pleasant about it and it seemed to have worked a scowl formed on her face.
“That was so nice of you Marcus, thanks,” she snapped. “But you invited my father, he had to bring me along.”
I decided to taunt her some more. “Speaking of your father,” I made sure to look as disgusted as I felt. “Did he see you leave the house naked?”
“What,” she muttered, a red colour tinging on her cheeks. “How dare you!”
I rolled my eyes, not wanted any drama as she had started raising her voice. I shoved her aside, not minding if she fell or not, as I went in search of Mark. I found him and Lily making out in a dark corner(which didn't leave me surprised, at all). I informed them that Chloe and I would be leaving.
On my out, Maggie obstructed my path again. “Seriously? Is there something wrong with your head, woman? Why are you troubling me?”
She flinched at my harsh tone, but that was the least of my worries. I just wanted to get out there and be with Chloe. “Do you not really not have any feelings left for me in your heart,” she asked, a hurt looking passing over her features.
I rolled my eyes. The question was getting old and I was tired of having to repeat myself over and over again. “No Mag, I don't. I wouldn't like to repeat myself again, so get out of my way because my wife is out there waiting.”
I tried to move around her but she spread her arms, stopping me again. “What does she have that I don't? I bet I'm more beautiful and more experienced in bed, what could make you choose her over me? What?”
My mouth fell open as I marveled at her own foolishness. She had done a million and one things that should make me not be with her, and now she was trying to pin the blames on Chloe?
“Uncountable things Maggie. You are so disgusting, that mere looking at you irritates me right now. Get out of my face,” I muttered, shoving her out of the way. Without waiting to listen to whatever she was ranting about, I got out, slamming the door behind me…
