Chapter 10 "Damien"

"Marcos, please wait!"

A loud, steady voice called out hastily, followed by rapid footsteps hitting the steps at the same pattern-like pace.

"Are you leaving?" The voice asks, tentatively coming to a halt right behind him.

Marcos heaved a sigh, words refusing to form in his head as he struggled to come up with a perfect excuse to give his brother.

He veered around slowly, his gestures careful as if he was approaching a scared animal when in reality it was just his brother.

He came face-to-face with the teen, noticing the curve that formed on his brow.

"Damien, it's not what it looks like." He said as he let out another sigh.

He watched as Damian's lips etched into a frown before he spoke.

"How do you mean? And what does this look like to you? " His brother inquired as he stared at Marcos with annoyance.

"Look," Marcos started, taking in a deep breath while running his hands through his hair. "I only wanted to clear my head."

"And you clear your head inside a car?" Damian asked, tilting his head a little to the side. "Do you think I am still a kid?"

The anger emanating from Damian came out in waves, bouncing off everyone present as they shook slightly on their feet.

Marcos felt a surge of his brother's anger hit him slightly in the gut, making him feel guilty a little.

"I am sorry, Damian. I was so in my head that for a minute there I forgot some things, and the only thing that mattered was getting out of here. " He huffed, as he apologised.

"You think sorry can fix this? And what were you thinking that made you forget about me entirely? " He yelled, his voice cracking.

Silent gasps were heard as the maids watched the youngest master talk to the alpha rudely.

"What the fuck do you want me to do, Damien? Go about begging for you to forgive me, or go on my knees?" Marcos exclaimed, his voice rising.

The bomb in his head finally went off as he gazed at his younger brother in pent-up anger.

"You think it's easy to live here? I don't get to see you like I normally do anymore. " His voice shook, coming out barely.

"Nobody in this fucking place even likes me, not even my father."

A growl from Marcos cut him off from his rant.

"Language! You are too young to be swearing. " Marcos growled, his eyes flickering.

"So get used to it, because this is how I talk now, and I fucking love it because no one notices. You aren't even here to correct me, so what if I swear? Everyone does it, so why can't I?"

"That is because you are too young to be swearing," Marcos repeated, a low growl escaping his chest.

"Bullshit! It's not like anyone cares what I do. I can do anything I want, and I don't take shitty orders from you, not anymore. " Damien seethed in his eyes, glaring as he dared his older brother, pushing him to the edge.

"Watch it, Damien." Marcos barked, his chest heaving as he spoke.

"Or what?" Damien screamed, throwing his hands into the air. "You are going to spank me? Or better yet, rip my head off? "

A loud animalistic growl erupted from Marcos, forcing the young teen to go silent.

In a swift motion, his beta stood in the middle, making Marcos halt in his raging steps.

His eyes flickered from one colour to the other, his alpha aura coming into the light, pulling everyone to their knees.

He set his flickering gaze and glared at his younger brother.

Damien shivered slightly at the intensity of his brother's raging gaze, but he stood his ground, meeting Marcos' gaze head-on.

Marcos took three steps back and connected his fists to the car, leaving a huge dent by the side of the car's door.

"And that's supposed to faze me or tell me to back off because that's what you would do to me if I didn't?" Damien's slightly shaken voice cut through the silence in the air.

Marcos took note of his words, freezing midway through his actions.

"That is not what it means, Damien, and you know it," Marcos said, puffing out air through his mouth.

"I have trouble controlling my wolf at the moment, and adding to my anger is not helping."

"Me expressing myself is adding to your anger?" A lone tear escaped Damien's eye as he stood gaping at Marcos.

"Why don't you understand me?" Marcos pleaded, astonished and lost for words.

"It's fine. I understand how much you love your work and how much time you have to be there rather than valuing your blood brother. " Damien said, sniffling.

"Go on, I won't try to stop you this time." He said this while wiping a single tear from his right cheek.

"Damien," Marcos called softly for his brother, reaching out to touch him.

"Don't," Damien called, noticing the proximity between them and taking several steps back to create enough distance between them.

"Don't come any closer, just go since I am a burden to you and I keep adding to your anger." Damien snorted darkly, his face turning dark.

"Stop it. That wasn't about you, and you have never been a burden to me. You are all I have and the goddess knows how much I love you, but I can't express myself." Marcus yelled, his expression turning soft.

"Then tell me damnit. Tell me how much you care for me because right now I don't know anymore. All I want now is my big brother because I miss him, and nobody loves me more than my big brother himself." He said, running his hands through his hair, choking sounds escaping his lips in an attempt to muffle his cries.

Marcos wore a frown, his lips pressed into a thin line as he stared at his brother.

His head spun in contemplation as he became conflicted. He wanted to hug Damien and assure him that all he was doing was for him, but that would mean putting Damien in trouble.

That was what he was willing to avoid in the first place.

"I'm sorry if I wasn't paying enough attention to you in the first place, but I am doing all this for your safety," he spoke, his eyes carrying a secret message. "Please understand that when the time is right, nothing will ever come between us," Marcus replied calmly, choosing his words.

From the corner of his eyes, he could see Fredrick and his stepbrothers, along with their stepmoms.

He knew they were watching them from the very beginning, looking for a weakness, but he wasn't going to show them.

If it meant Damien hating him for the rest of his life, then he was going to do that as long as Damien was safe, that was all that mattered.

"I hate you." Damien spat out before running off. His eyes were filled with rage.

He felt a pang in his chest. His shoulders slumped before he lifted them.

A pressing feeling filled the air, making the maids around drop onto their knees one after the other due to the intensity of Marcos' depressing air.

A tug from his trousers made him look down, and seeing his beta on his knees and in pain made him remorseful.

The air dispersed instantly, and deep breaths of relief were drawn from everyone around.

A new car pulled up in front of them, and his beta made to open the door once more.

Setting foot in the car, he paused to look into the mansion-like palace.

"Double the security around my brother." was the word that left his mouth before he sat in the car.

A faint response from his beta was all the confirmation he needed.

"Where to, sir?" His beta asked from the driver's seat.

"To get a glass of something strong." He grunted in response.

"I know just the right place." His beta replied, stepping on the gas.

The closer they got to the bar, the more his stomach churned in excitement.

He felt his wolf purring and his eyes flickering. His heart raced with different thoughts, as adrenaline coursed through his veins.

He was on the edge, but for what?
