Winter Garden
"How's it, Luna?" One of the omega maids asked as Evelyn tasted the soup.
"It's really good," Evelyn smiled. "Also, you can call me Evelyn. I'm not the Luna..." She looked down. It felt awkward to Evelyn that almost everyone was calling her something she isn't.
"That's okay, you're going to be Luna soon." The maid chirped happily before going to take care of her awaiting chores.
Almost every omega in the Pack is excited about Evelyn becoming the next Luna because it's the first time an omega is taking over that position. It's natural for them to think that they finally have someone who understands them.
Evelyn sighed. She couldn't tell the omegas about how complicated her relationship is with the Alpha and it made her heart heavy because she was giving them hope about something that is most likely not going to happen.
"Luna! Good morning!" A high pitched voice made Evelyn turn around to see the smiling blond omega.
"Good morning, Rain." She couldn't help but smile back at the boy. He really has an infectious smile.
"Can you come with me? I have something to show you." Rain said, tugging on Evelyn's sleeve.
"What is it? " She questioned, curious why the omega was so excited about in the morning.
"It's a surprise, come on." Rain giggled as he dragged Evelyn with him.
Soon they were out of the packhouse and walking towards the back. The number of trees increased as they walked. After a few minutes, they reached the place that made her gasp.
The boy giggled at her awestruck expression. "Beautiful, isn't it? " He asked her.
"I don't know what to say...." The place was the most beautiful place Evelyn saw in her life. She stared at the gorgeous view in front of her.
There was a small pond that had crystal clear water and beautiful small fishes were carelessly roaming in it. Around the pond were different types of plants that had eye-catching flowers on them, mostly yellow, light violet, and red-colored ones. Some flowers were floating around in the pond.
There was no piece of land visible in the area as the ground was covered with pink and white flower petals. There were big bloomed flower trees which made the place seem like heaven.
Evelyn frowned in confusion, "How? It's almost winter... How are there so many flowers?"
The boy smiled, "These are plants and trees that blossom in winter," He said, his voice brimming with excitement. "Look! This one is a cherry tree, it's my favorite," He said pointing to the tree with pink flowers. "And this is a magnolia, it's beautiful, isn't it? "
Evelyn couldn't help but smile looking at the boy who was happily talking about his garden. "This one right here is a snowdrift crabapple and the one next to it is a Loquat." He pointed to the two trees. "I like crabapple's flowers, white flowers calm my mind," He said, going to stand under the tree. "Loquat has white flowers too but it blossomed early this time and now it's all fruits." He pointed to the tree which had plum-like bright yellow fruits hanging on it. "Loquat's flowers have a really sweet scent. I come here often when it blooms because of that." Evelyn looked at the tree again. There were small birds on it, some chirping and some eating the sweet-smelling fruit.
"Whoever made this garden is a thoughtful person. I always thought winter was boring because there won't be any flowers but this is amazing. Now I have something to look forward to in winter," Evelyn turned to the boy who smiled at her but there was a small hint of sadness in his eyes.
"It's my mother..." He looked at the flowers with a fond smile. "My mother loved flowers, she planted most of the trees and plants in our front garden. The wisteria was her favorite.... She always got sad when winter came because there weren't any flowers. My father wasn't happy with her being sad so he went and bought different kinds of plants and trees that blossom in winter," Rain chuckled. "The Loquat was specially imported from Japan. The cherry tree first bloomed when she was pregnant with me...... She was so happy..... " He sighed. "I don't remember much about them.... Most of the things I know about them are from the stories the former Luna and Amelia told me."
Evelyn didn't know what to say to the boy. She never had to comfort anyone before because she was alone in the forest for half of her life. "They would be so proud of you for taking care of their garden," Evelyn said in the hope to cheer up the boy.
Rain smiled, "Not a lot of people know about this little garden...... which helps me to come here when I'm feeling down. I'm showing you this so you could also come here when you want to relax."
"That's so thoughtful of you," Evelyn ruffled the blonde boy's hair. "I'll definitely come here often because this is the coolest place I've ever seen." She smiled.
"The front garden is also amazing, it's just there aren't any flowers because it's winter now. It's so beautiful when it's spring." It seemed like the omega liked the flowers just as much as his mother did.
"What would you do with the fishes when it's winter? Won't the water temperature become very low?" Evelyn asked, looking down at the fish swimming in the small pond.
"I move them to the indoor tank," He said as he shivered because of the wind that suddenly blew.
Evelyn hugged herself to protect herself from the cold. Both of the omegas forgot to wear a coat and now they were regretting it.
"Luna, look!" Rain shouted looking around. The wind made the petals fall from the tree making it seem like it was snowing.
Rain giggled bouncing around to catch as many petals as he could in his palm. Laughing, Evelyn joined him and caught the flower petals as much as she could.
The boy tiptoed and sneakily dumped the petals he caught on Evelyn's head who gasped in surprise. Evelyn wanted revenge. She chased Rain with her handful of petals to dump them on the boy's head.
Both of the omegas were so lost in playing with the petals that they didn't see the people watching them.
"Omega!"
A booming voice made the omegas stop on their tracks.
Evelyn stiffened. It was her mate's voice. The one that made her cower in submission.
Gulping, she slowly turned to face the fuming alpha staring at her.
