An Annoyed Alpha
"What are you doing here?" The Alpha asked, his jaws clenching as he eyed the omega. His Beta, Calvin, was right beside him—staring at the omegas uninterested.
"I-I... W-we were just—" Evelyn stuttered not knowing what to say. Rain quickly moved and found a safe spot behind the girl.
"Who gave you permission to go out?" The Alpha asked, taking long strides towards the omegas.
"N-No one, I-I didn't k-know I had to ask—I'm s-sorry." Evelyn nervously chewed on her lips. The flower petals fell from her hair as she lowered her head in submission.
"Don't repeat this next time when you step out of the Packhouse." The Alpha scolded as he glared at the omega.
Evelyn just meekly nodded in reply, afraid to speak up. Keiran shifted his gaze to the boy behind her.
"You're hanging out with him?" He huffed, staring at the omega hiding behind Evelyn. Rain looked down, not daring to meet the Alpha's eyes. "What a perfect combo," Keiran let out a sardonic chuckle. "The weak and the weakest." He mocked the omegas. Evelyn watched as her mate's face settled on a distasteful expression.
Rain whimpered hearing the Alpha insult them. Even though he's been hearing this for years, he still couldn't get used to the pain it caused him.
Evelyn wanted to run off from there. Every insult her mate threw at her was piercing her heart like arrows. Soon it will break into tiny pieces that can't be put together.
"You're going to meet the elders in the evening. Be ready, I'll send someone to bring you when it's time." He said before walking away from the omega.
Evelyn dumbfoundedly stared at her mate as he walked away with his Beta. She was confused about who the elders are but didn't dare to question the Alpha.
"Luna.....Don't the Alpha like you?" Rain's soft voice snapped her back into reality.
Evelyn sighed and mustered up a small smile that didn't reach her eyes. It wasn't that hard to see the pain she's trying to hide. "It seems like he's not that fond of me,"
"But why? He's your mate.... Don't mates love each other? " The boy asked, confused. From what he heard, mates are every wolf's biggest blessing.
"I-it's like that sometimes.....It's because he's the Alpha.... a-and a weak mate is a b-burden for him," Evelyn looked down in an attempt to hide her watery eyes from the boy.
"T-Then what about me? Will my mate h-hate me too? " He stuttered out, making Evelyn's eyes widen.
"No! It's not like that, oh goddess, that's not what I meant—" She said hastily. Evelyn didn't want the boy to lose his hope of being happy with his mate. She cupped his face and made him look up at her. "—not everyone's like that. Your mate won't hate you. You're too cute for that." She smiled.
Rain flushed red as he heard the words. Not a lot of people complimented him like this.
"Hey! You two!" A high-pitched voice made the omegas turn around to see Amelia walking towards them followed by a familiar curly-haired guy. "Alpha was looking for you...... Did he come here? "
"Yeah..... He left a few minutes ago."
"What did he say to you?" Amelia asked the omega, her voice laced with both curiosity and worry.
"Something about meeting the elders in the evening," Evelyn fought a frown as she said it. "Who are the elders?"
"Elders are people who make important decisions in the Pack. They are a group of people which includes former Alphas and Lunas, and former Betas and their mate. Currently, our elders are Keiran's and Calvin's parents and grandparents. Keiran has to seek permission from them when making important decisions like choosing the next Luna, adding a new member, and attacks." Amelia explained as Evelyn listened to her attentively. "If he wants you to meet the elders, it must be to discuss you becoming the next Luna." The doctor smiled.
The new information only helped to make Evelyn even more nervous. Her mate said she can't be Luna. That must be what he's going to suggest to the elders. And if they agree...... then Evelyn would have no choice other than to watch her mate be with someone else.
"What are you thinking?" Amelia questioned making Evelyn look up at her.
"Nothing.... " The omega smiled and waved it off, not wanting to continue the discussion about her being the next Luna. Evelyn turned around to look at Rain who was a blushing mess as he talked to the curly-haired guy.
"That's Josh, my cousin." Amelia introduced the guy, making him look at them.
"Hello Luna, I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself to you the day we met," Josh said smiling at her. Evelyn didn't try to correct the guy about him calling her Luna. She knew it would be of no use as everyone continued to call her that even after she said not to.
"That's okay, I'm Evelyn." The girl said remembering that she never introduced herself too.
"Why is Rain so red? " Amelia suddenly said, drawing everyone's attention towards the omega who flushed even more.
"Because he's a living tomato," Josh said and ruffled the omega's hair, making him pout.
"I'm not a tomato!" He huffed as he covered his red cheeks. "It's because he was making fun of me!" He pointed to Josh who laughed, causing Rain to pout even more.
Amelia shook her head with a small smile playing on her lips. " Boys, you can bicker later. Now, let's go inside and eat something, I'm starving." She said as she walked towards the Packhouse. Evelyn followed Amelia with two bickering boys trailing behind her.
Evelyn sat on her bed, dreading the moment her mate was going to reject her. She was neatly dressed, waiting to meet the elders. It was evening—3: 43 to be exact.
Evelyn sat there and thought about everything that could happen in a few hours. She knew the Alpha can't reject her as his mate but he can reject her from being the Luna.
A knock on the door made Evelyn jump in surprise. She hurriedly went and opened it to see a smiling omega.
"Good evening, Luna. Alpha wants to see you." The omega said.
Evelyn greeted her back and tried to muster up a small smile but failed miserably.
She took a deep breath and tried to push down all the bad thoughts running through her mind before following the omega upstairs.
'Please give me the strength to endure whatever that's going to happen today.' The girl silently prayed to the Goddess as she walked to her mate.
