Chapter 7: Back In Time

Adani's POV

I was very unsettled for the remainder of the evening. I prepared dinner, a chore I found myself gravitating more towards whenever I needed to feel better about myself or to make things better between Wayan and me.

"Why are you cooking?" he asked, strolling into the kitchen. He circled me around my waist, drawing me closer to his chest.

"We do have to eat," I answered.

"I know, but I have other plans for us tonight."

"Why are you being nice to me right now?" I asked him, turning to face him.

He reached out and turned the stove off before looking at me with his seductive eyes and the biting of his lower lip.

In one swift motion, I was picked up and placed on the island top.

"Look, I know I'm not the most perfect guy in the world. I know I've hurt you. I can be a complete fool and you don't deserve that. I want to start a new chapter between us."

"Wayan, I've heard all this before. You would be nice for a few days then go right back to your abusive and disrespectful ways. What ever happened to us, huh? What did I do for you to hate me so much?" I asked with teary eyes.

"Baby, I'm sorry.  I promise I can do better. I can be better. We can go to counseling, therapy, church, whatever it is. I don't want to lose you."

I looked heavenward, fighting back the tears. Wayan rested his head on my chest and naturally, my hands wrapped around his back like a form of protection.

Protection from what, Adani?

Himself?

You?

"Come on, let's head upstairs. Sleeping without you next to me has been torture," he said and before I could respond, he scooped me like a bride and carried me up the flight of stairs.

In the bedroom, he sat me down on the bed and hovered over me, planting small kisses on my forehead, nose then my lips.

"I missed you," he whispered softly.

I didn't answer.

"You're not going to say it back?" he asked.

"I miss you too."

"I'm not convince, but, I can understand why. I'm pushing you away from me when really I should be drawing you in. I'll make it up to you. Go get ready and get dress. I'm taking you out tonight."

"Out, out where?"

"Nah, I'm not telling you. Go get ready."

With a smile, I was up and heading towards the shower. As I applied bodywash to my loofah, Wayan stepped in.

"Let me," he said. He took it gently from my hands and began working it against my skin. Slowly, he handled me against the shower wall and parted my legs before positioning himself between me.

The shower turned on and it was on. I held onto him as he thrust into me. The passion I once felt had subside and all I wanted was for it to be over.

~

"Have you seen my necklace?" I asked him. We were out of the shower and was getting dress.

"Which one?" he asked.

"The one you got me for my birthday," I answered.

"It should be in your jewelry box," he answered.

"I know that's where I had it but it's not here now."

"Then you've probably misplaced it, Adani!" his voice rose.

I stayed quiet.

"I'm sorry for raising my voice at you. But you've probably misplace it. Maybe it's in one of your bags or a purse."

"I'm sure it would turn up. Mom always said when you're looking for something, it doesn't show up. But the moment you don't need it, there it is."

We walked out the room, went down the stairs and out the front door. Wayan held open the door to his car for me and I sat in the front passenger seat. He got behind the driver's wheel, started to car and drove to the location.

Surprisingly, we walked up to a table where a couple was already seated next to each other and another woman sat across from them.

"Wayan, you've finally made it," the guy said and stood up. I watched as Wayan and him hugged.

"Allow me to introduce my fianceé. This is Adani Prime," he said and wrapped an arm around my waist.

"Ah, I see why we're just meeting her. You are probably scared one of our single friends snatches her before you even say 'I do'. Smart," the guy joked as a form of compliment.

"Thank you," I said politely.

"Adani, meet the clown, this is Justin and his wife, Destiny. And over here, this is Coral," Wayan said.

"Nice to meet you all," I said.

"Likewise," Destiny answered with a smile.

Coral waved instead of greeting. Her long silky lacefront wig covered half of her face as she typed loudly on her phone.

Without paying any mind to her, I sat down. Wayan sat next to me.

"As usual, he's always late," Justin said, looking at the entrance to the luxury restaurant.

"Someone else is joining us?" I asked Wayan.

"Yeah."

"Wayan's bestie," Justin said.

"Ah! There you go again with that, bro. I've told you before that you're both my best friends."

"Really, let's see who gets the best man at the wedding."

"Now, Justin, let's not," Destiny told her husband with a smile to cease the teasing.

"Sorry. Sorry for being late. Traffic was a mess," a guy said as he came over to the table.

He sat next to the other side of Wayan, on the left, that was until Wayan eyed him dangerously and he got up and went to sit next to Coral.

"Hi sweetie," I heard him greet her but Coral was busy typing in her phone. I watched as Destiny checked her phone and began typing. Coral's phone vibrated with a text. It was obvious they were texting each other and whatever about, they couldn't say it at the table.

"Sweetie, what would you like to drink?" Wayan asked, shifting my attention back to him.

"A glass of wine please," I answered.

Within a few seconds, a server came to the table with a glass of red wine.

Shortly after, Coral and Destiny excused themselves from the table and headed towards the ladies room.

"Oh, how rude of me. I didn't introduce you two," Wayan said.

The guy who was late looked at the two of us with a smile.

"Can I just say that the two of you are a cute couple," he complimented.

Wayan's friends were so nice. I wished some of those features could rub off on him.

"I'm Collin," he said and held out his hand to me from across the table.

It was like someone sounded a bell in my ears, the way the name was deafening me. Taken a back but managing composure, I shook his hand.

"Nice to meet you Collin," I said, searching his face and hand for any markings and or scarings so I can verify with Adonna.

He had a small scar just above his right eyebrow, fair in complexion with light brown eyes and curly hair.

"Excuse me for one moment. I need to use the restroom," I said to Wayan.

"All the ladies. Please gather the other two on your way there. We're about to order dinner," he said.

"Sure," I responded. I stood up and Wayan reached for my hand.

"No kisses?" he asked.

I reached down and kissed him on his lips before walking away.

"Bro, when is the wedding?" I heard his friends asking as I walked away.

~

I pushed in the door to the restroom, and found Coral hunched over one of the sinks, crying. Destiny rubbed her back for comfort.

"Is she okay?" I asked with sincere concern.

"She will be," Destiny said.

I nodded and entered one of the stalls. Right before locking the door behind me, I heard her mumbled something else that sounded rude.

"I think I'll just leave the restaurant. I can't do this," I heard Coral's voice.

"You don't have to. This has always been our spot. Our thing. You can't just walk away," Destiny consoled.

"Maybe you're right but now I'm a mess. My make up is ruin," Coral said.

As much as I wanted to call Adonna, I knew I shouldn't. Not when Wayan's friends were standing outside the door.

Flushing the toilet, I unlocked and walked towards another sink. I washed my hands and proceeded to the hand dryer.

"There. All fix," Destiny said. Coral's hair was out her face and she was smiling now. I turned to her with a smile until my eyes fell to her chest.

She was wearing my missing necklace.
