Chapter 7

"Like what?" Luna and Lunalyn said simultaneously.

Celestine just took a deep breath and sighed as she looked at her friends and spoke, "Like I will be able to know your emotions, and I want to know my purpose in this world if I have this condition," she said. Celestine was just being honest when she said that. She just wanted her real purpose. She wanted to know if she really had or not.

Luna and Lunalyn are shocked by Celestine"s answer as they pity her for not recognizing her own emotions and others. The two went to hug Celestine to give her warmth. Even just by that, they could make her feel their love for her and that they will always be there for her. After hugging Celestine, the twin stared at her as silence filled the three of them not until Luna spoke.

"By reading books, what have you learned so far?" she asked while slowly caressing Celestine"s hair.

"As of now, I just got done reading ethics and philosophies," Celestine said earnestly.

"And?" Lunalyn asked this time.

"And... I found out about virtue ethics by Aristotle."

Luna and Lunalyn frowned because they did not know anything about Aristotle aside from, he is a famous philosopher and scientist. The twins are trying to process what Celestine had said, but Lunalyn was the first one to recover. "Then what does Virtue of Ethics means by Aristotle?" she asked.

"In different from most of the moral theories that I have read, virtue ethics does not devote a lot of time by telling us what we should do. There is no such categorical imperative or principle of utility. Instead, virtue ethics is all about character," Celestine paused, making Luna and Lunalyn hanged, waiting for her to continue.

"And?"

"Virtue ethics reflects the early statement that humans have a fixed nature – a core – and that the way we curl it by adhering to that nature. Aristotle described this in terms of what he called proper functioning. Everything has a function, and a thing is good to the extent that it accomplishes its function and bad to the extent that it does not."

Celestine looked up above to see the clear blue sky and continued to speak.

"In virtue ethics, I have it states there that no one is purposeless, because everything, living or non-living things have a purpose in this world. If a knife is used for cutting if the spoon is used for eating, so am I; I also have a purpose in this world," Celestine explained to the twins, who are now looking at her with awed their faces.

S

"Wow... For you to understand that, you must have really eager to know your purpose. I am glad that you are looking for it," Lunalyn said with teary eyes as she is so happy that their best friend is trying her best to cope up with her condition, that she is not numb like what other people call her.

"Therefore, I conclude that regardless of if an individual action is purely by desire or not, rational or irrational, and with or without reason, does not even matter anymore, because what matters is according to Aristotle, if we can just focus on being good people, the right actions will follow, effortlessly."

"I know for a fact that I could not feel an emotion and could not determine what other people"s emotion, but it does not mean that I am bad and a threat to society. My parents thought that how to be good even if my face does not look good because I am emotionless and expressionless," Celestine added.

Celestine went silent after telling her friends the true meaning of Virtue Ethics by Aristotle. Of all the ethical theories that she had read, virtue ethics is what she agrees with the most. Celestine concludes that regardless of if an individual"s action is purely by desire or not, rational or irrational, and with or without reason, does not even matter anymore, because what matters is according to Aristotle, if we can just focus on being good people, the proper actions will follow, effortlessly.

Being unable to determine other people"s emotions and feelings is somewhat bearable since it can be learned through thorough observations, analysis, rational thinking, and morals. Celestine"s parents knew from the very beginning when they had a checkup, and the doctor told them that Celestine was suffering from a rare condition called Alexithymia.

Upon knowing that she has a rare condition, Celestine"s family taught her lots of things to determine other people"s emotions. They taught her to be observable, to have a keen eye in every situation, and to have an advanced hearing capability to recognize voice tones. She might have a cold aura outside, but Celestine has a soft and kind heart because that was how her parents taught her.

Celestine could determine the emotions of other people even a little bit, but not hers, and that is the reason why Celestine likes the theory of Aristotle, the Virtue Ethics because that theory does not tell her what she should do or how she should act in a specific way but instead focus on character. She believes that even though she could not purely determine or could not tell the emotions of other people, hence, even her own feeling, she still firmly believes that she has good character, goodwill, and good intention towards humanity—and that is because of her parents, her family who raised her that way.

Her parents taught her to be kind and consider others still, but it was her decision to take Psychology as a course in college and masterly.

The thoughts of Celestine were interrupted when a hoard of people came to the park out of nowhere, and those were her friends—the Hotdog Kings and Chick Princesses.

"Hello!!! Madlam people!! Yoohoo!" it was Monique. The heiress of MaCars Garage. Among Chick Princesses, she is the most hyper, and she never loses energy. Always talkative, but she is a kind and sweet person. "Celestine... Celestine... Hurra! Hurra!" Monique said gleefully when she saw her and went to hug her tight.

Celestine hugged Monique back and playfully messed her hair. She is a year older than Monique, and she likes it when she is being so sweet. She might not be able to know what like is, but she knows she wants it.

Monique let go of their hug and looked at Celestine, then asked, "Celestine, when is the wedding?" Her face looks so excited.

"After one a half years," she answered. And everyone who was there was shocked by what they heard.

"What??!"

"For real?!"

"Seriously?"

Everyone muttered as they were really shocked by the news, except Grant, the Milty twins—Luna and Lunalyn, and Chester Dwaien, who already knew about it.

Celestine nodded at them and said, "Yes. For real."
