Chapter 2

Lydia's POV

I stood still, not knowing what to do.

Elvis said to me in his nice voice, "My words may be a bit presumptuous, but there was a mysterious feeling guiding me the moment you appeared, can you understand what I mean? I think that you are my mate."

Me? I was just a guy who hadn't even owned my own wolf at 18, but Elvis, the alpha heir of Dawn Pack, actually said I might be his mate?

Great surprise took over my mind, and at the same time, I inevitably began to fantasize about how great it would be if what Elvis said was true. Then I wouldn't have to listen to Amara and Dylan and treat that damn Gavin.

"Can you turn around to me so I can confirm?" Elvis requested me in a very gentlemanly manner instead of coming right up to me, which made me love this Dawn Pack future Alpha even more.

I felt my face burning and I didn't need to look in the mirror to know that my face must be flushed right now.

"Okay." I answered him in a whisper, after all, Elvis and I hadn't seen each other since that farce twelve years ago, but I still managed to hear about him from others, and it was those heroic deeds that made me admire this Dawn Pack's future Alpha.

I turned around at a slow pace, hoping to make the red on my face fade a bit.

The moment Elvis and I saw each other, a strange feeling hit me. It was a fatalistic feeling, and I knew Elvis was right in feeling that he and I were meant to mate.

I almost shed tears of joy, for I could be saved!

Dawn Pack Alpha's heir Elvis was my mate and that damn Gavin was just one of the current Alpha's assistants.

As long as I had Elvis' recognition and help, I wouldn't have to offer my body to repay my hypocritical adoptive parents.

But I saw a hint of disgust in Elvis's eyes. In this house, I get that look from Amara Five hundred times a day, and I could be sure that Elvis was disgusted with me.

I didn't understand why Elvis was looking at me like that, my hands were clenched together too hard, causing my fingertips to turn a little white. I stepped forward and spoke nervously, "Elvis ..."

"Wait, lady," Elvis held up his hand and took two steps back, separating himself from me, "I want you to stay away from me."

"Why?" My voice was a little out of control, Elvis was the only way out for me right now, I couldn't understand why he would do this to me, "I'm your mate, we picked each other."

"Disgusting." Elvis frowned and said in a cold voice.

"What?" I couldn't believe what my ears had heard, Elvis actually called me disgusting? I couldn't understand what I had done to offend this great and noble Alpha heir.

"I said you're disgusting, lady." Elvis, still maintaining that posture of denial, repeated it again.

My voice was a little choked with sadness, "I don't remember doing anything that would make you sick, can you please tell me why you're talking about me like that?"

What else could make an adolescent girl's heart break more than being disgusted to the face of her crush for so long? Probably even if he said it, I had to act like I was not upset and asked him why.

"Twelve years ago, when a damn little girl told me she was being abused by her adoptive parents," Elvis averted his gaze as if looking at me made him sick to vomit "I believed her and did my own best to help her. Three days later, she admitted that she had made everything up just to get my attention. Do I need to go on?"

Each of Elvis' words was like a sharp arrow that pierced my heart over and over again. I suddenly felt so heartbroken that I could barely speak. In Elvis's heart, I was actually a despicable liar who was willing to denigrate my adoptive parents in order to achieve the goal.

The most important thing at the point was to get Elvis to help me get out of having to go to bed with Gavin, I forced myself to speak with heartache, "Listen to me, I can explain ..."

"That's enough, dear Miss Liar." Elvis still didn't turn his gaze to look at me, but I could see his impatience on his face, "What excuse are you going to use to lie to me this time. Is it that your sister Kelly bullied you, or that your adoptive parents, the kind couple Amara and Dylan, are ready to sell you?"

How do I convince him that his suspicions are all correct?

"The truth is, what you said is true." My heart ached even more, and I covered my chest, fearing that I would faint in the next second.

Elvis had a "I see" look on his face, "Just now, your sister Kelly told me that you've been restless lately because Amara and Dylan bought the same dress for you and Kelly instead of a better one. You're really a vain and mean person."

I looked up in surprise, unable to believe that Kelly was so "smart". Maybe the family had told this version of the story to all the guests early on, so that no one would believe what I said.

"Elvis, you have to believe me, we're mates, aren't we?" The pain coming from my heart became more intense, one after another, almost shattering my heart.

"You didn't really think I would acknowledge you, did you? Do you think you're qualified to be my mate, to be the future Luna of Dawn Pack?" Elvis finally looked at me with straight eyes, his eyes narrowed and his voice low, "With the status of an eighteen-year-old orphan girl who hasn't awakened the wolf yet? Not to mention your character, what I need is a decent mate, what Dawn Pack needs is a strong Luna, either request is not something a despicable villain like you can achieve. I, Elvis, reject you Lydia as my mate."

Suddenly, the bond between me and Elvis was completely broken. My face was already wet with tears, I shook my head painfully, unable to speak, and Elvis didn't wait for me to continue explaining, he just hit my shoulder with great force, "Excuse me, Miss Liar, save your lies for the fools."

I was knocked to the ground by Elvis, tears blurred my vision, and the rejection made my heart feel an endless emptiness and grief.

"No, please, don't go ..." I cried, falling to my knees and reaching out one hand to grab Elvis' pants, only to have him easily dodge it.

In my blurred vision, Elvis walked around the corner to the hallway without looking back.

The pain of being rejected and even humiliated by my crush and the despair of being forced to sleep with Gavin overwhelmed me, and I sobbed silently, barely able to breathe, and just passed out.

When I woke up again, I was lying on the bed in Kelly's dollhouse, surrounded by those damned dolls with their creepy smiles.

"Gavin, Lydia was raised by our couple as our own daughter, I think you understand how much she means to us." Dylan's voice came from the doorway, "I mean, you need to add a little more chips."

"Dear Dylan, if you and Amara really consider Lydia as your own daughter, you wouldn't have made this deal with me." It was the old Gavin, "We're both adults, there's no need to play such childish game with me. I won't pay a penny more than the price already agreed upon. The choice is yours, to do as you agreed at the beginning, or I will leave now and tell everyone what you and Amara really are under the mask of the kind couple."

Listening to two men arguing over my "price", a strong wave of despair engulfed me, and I turned my head to the side with tears streaming down my face, only to suddenly see the window that hadn't been closed, with the huge moon hanging there.

Wait, why didn't I run away? Would it be worse to die out there than to die under the torture of old man Gavin?

Before I could sit up from the bed, I heard the sound of the door opening into my ears, and I hurriedly closed my eyes and pretended I was still in a coma.

"My dear, beautiful, young Lydia, blame your parents who offered you to me for money." Gavin's excited voice came closer and closer to me, and I knew that he must have won the negotiation with Dylan.

My hand dropped to the side of the bed, trying to find something to defend myself with, when suddenly, I touched a cold object, a wine bottle! I held the top half of the bottle tightly in my hand and waited to smash it hard on Gavin's head when he approached.

The next moment, a body reeking of decay pressed up and Gavin kissed me on the face with his disgusting and stinking mouth.

I closed my eyes tightly, while doing my best not to stain the sickening smell, the hand holding the bottle was raised high, and when Gavin's mouth was about to touch mine, I slammed it down as hard as I could.

Gavin was knocked unconscious directly by me, and the bottle was shattered into glass crumbs on the bed, with a few shards even cutting into my skin.

I pushed Gavin away from me, spat hard in his face, then pulled my shirt off and ran to the window sill.

There must be someone guarding the door, there's no way I could escape from there. Even if this was the second floor, if I jumped, I shouldn't have much serious injury, even if I didn't awaken my wolf, I was still a werewolf.

Figuring this out, I didn't hesitate any longer to brace myself against the windowsill and leap.

My judgment proved correct, except for the scrapes caused by small stones and gravel, I was barely hurt, and before I could feel happy about it, I heard Kelly's screams from upstairs, "Dad! Mom! She's gone! Lydia's gone!"

Damn, did Kelly stand by and listen when Gavin and Dylan were talking about the price? Otherwise, how could she have found out so quickly that something was wrong?

It was not the time to think about that, I must quickly escape! Because I was too anxious, I didn't even judge properly which way I should go, and my intuition led me to a path I had never taken before, an unfamiliar one.

I didn't know how long I'd been running, my face had been scratched by the branches in the jungle, and there were still no people behind me to follow.

Did I lose them? Probably, but I was still afraid to slow down, causing me to almost go straight down the waterfall.

There was a magnificent and shocking sound of water flowing in front of me...

A waterfall!

There was no way out ahead of me, and I had no other choice but to return along the way I came.

Just as I was about to step back, there was a distant clutter of footsteps and the sound of people talking.

"She must have run this way! Look at these branches, you guys, the blood on them is fresh, it must have been left just now."

Damn, those damned pursuers were already following me. I glanced at the incoming road, and then at the waterfall.

I would rather die out there than go back and be tortured by Gavin, that was my real thought just now, and I never thought it would come true so soon.

I closed my eyes and plunged straight into the waterfall.
