Chapter 6

Elvis's POV

To find Lydia's body, I led a search team around the falls for thirty-five days.

I suspected she was not dead until not a trace of the body was found.

So I went to the nearby Glory Pack and tried to find the Alpha here to ask if there was any sign of Lydia.

What I didn't expect was to see that dazzling red hair as soon as I entered the Glory Pack's training ground.

Damn, I recognized it right away, that woman was Lydia!

She actually hugged a man and laughed so happily.

After I said I was going to take her back to Dawn Pack, she even loudly contradicted me and argued with me. That look was completely different from the Lydia in my memories.

"You're not Lydia?" I narrowed my eyes and asked the woman in front of me who looked exactly like Lydia, "Lydia wouldn't contradict me like that, who are you?"

The woman with red hair grew her mouth in surprise and the disdain in her eyes became more obvious, "My esteemed Dawn Pack Future Alpha, it's only been a month since I've seen you, and you can't even recognize the mate you once personally rejected? You really got a good memory."

Her tone was mocking and not at all like the woman I knew.

The bad thing was that Elvo kept telling me in my head that he could sense that she was Lydia.

Not wanting to deal with our Dawn Pack affairs in front of the Glory Pack, I reached back out to take Lydia's hand and lead her outside the training ground, "Come back with me, you don't know how anxious your adoptive parents are looking for you."

Lydia shook my hand off hard, the second time she had pushed me away, and I was already a little confused.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked her with a frown, "Can you bear to watch your adoptive parents die of grief for you?"

Seriously, I couldn't stand it when Amara kept telling me how she hadn't found Lydia yet.

"They'll grieve for me?" Lydia looked like she had heard some kind of funny joke.

I wanted to say something else, but the man who had just been hugging Lydia came up again and stood directly between us, blocking my view of Lydia.

"I don't know who you are, but you can't take Lydia," the man's voice disgusted me to no end, not to mention the look of pride on his face.

Damn, I could not suppress my anger for so long and I swung my fist directly at the damn face.

The man reacted quickly and tried to dodge, but still wasn't as fast as I was and was knocked to the ground.

"Is this your lover in Glory Pack?" I can't show my emotions, I just knew that the way this man and Lydia just hugged was an eyesore.

Elvo whispered mockingly in my ear, "My God, are you jealous of him?"

I refused to admit it, ignoring Elvo's words and mocking Lydia, "You like that kind of a loser, don't you?"

I expected Lydia to tell me that it wasn't her lover, or to look at me with adoration like the teenage girls who stood around every time I defeated someone.

But Lydia didn't. She screamed, then rushed to the man's side and held his face in concern.

I was so angry that I rushed up and pulled Lydia away. Now there was no one to stop me and I had to take Lydia back to Dawn Pack, no matter what it was for.

Lydia tried many times without breaking free of my hand, and she looked at me angrily and turned into a red wolf directly.

Before I could be surprised that Lydia had actually awakened her wolf and that the wolf was actually so dazzling, she grabbed my wrist viciously with those sharp wolf claws.

The pain hit me all at once and I had to let go of Lydia.

"What are you mad about?" I covered my wrist and yelled at Lydia, "Are you that cold-blooded? Would you rather break your adoptive parents' hearts than stay here?"

"I think you may have forgotten," Lydia reverted to human, "That a month ago you rejected me as your mate, and I think we are no longer related to each other, and you have no right over me."

I didn't know why, but my heart ached for a moment when I heard her say that there was no relationship between us, but I quickly sobered up, "Even if we are not mates for each other, you are still one of our Dawn Pack, and I must take you back. As the future Alpha of Dawn Pack, I have the right to control you."

A woman with green eyes identical to Lydia's suddenly appeared and interrupted my argument with Lydia. She shielded Lydia behind her with those strong arms and then said to me, "I am Larissa, the Alpha of Glory Pack, Lydia is my daughter, the future of our Glory Pack Alpha. About the matter of you rejecting her to be your mate, I will come to you for a statement. But for now, please leave Glory Pack."

My expression grew harder and harder with Larissa's words, Lydia, the loser who hadn't even awakened her wolf at the age of eighteen, was actually the daughter of a wolf pack alpha?

No matter how surprised I was, it was impossible to take someone else's daughter on someone else's territory, and I had to leave for a while.

"Lydia, you are such a cold-blooded person." Before leaving Glory Pack, I said to Lydia in an icy voice, "Your adoptive parents suffered immensely for you, yet you are so happy in Glory Pack, I bet you don't miss them, do you?"

Lydia heard my words as if she had heard a joke, "Elvis, you have no idea what's going on, you just stubbornly think you're right. And from the moment you rejected me, we were the most ordinary strangers to each other. Go away and never bother me again!"

Hell, Lydia seemed so calm that I couldn't even tell if what she was saying was coming from her heart or if it was just a false statement made out of anger.

I can't stop thinking about Lydia's cold gaze when she said the word "stranger" just now.

On the way back to Dawn Pack, Elvo suddenly spoke up.

"Elvis, did you hear what Lydia just said?"

"Yes, yes, of course I heard that," I mimicked Lydia's voice, "Elvis, we are the most ordinary strangers."

Damn, how dared she call us strangers when I thought at least we used to be mates.

"No, Elvis," Elvo sounded a little bemused, "I mean, Lydia said you had no idea what was going on, remember?"

Elvo's voice poured cold water on my anger, reminding me to pay attention to something I hadn't noticed earlier.

"You mean ... Lydia didn't jump into the waterfall herself?" I asked Elvo with a frown.

"Who knows? Do you remember, the day after Lydia jumped off the waterfall, the Kelly family was acting rather strangely."

I thought through all the events of that day and really caught something that didn't quite make sense, "Yes! You're right! When Kelly took me to her house, she made me wait at the door for a while, and I didn't hear anything at that time."

"But if Amara and Dylan were really crying and smashing things, there's no way they'd be so quiet, don't you think?" Elvo added.

"You're right!" I began to wonder, Kelly didn't look natural at the time.

So if Kelly was lying, what was the family covering up?

I frowned and said, "I should investigate them properly."

"Remember the pair of glasses you picked up?" Elvo reminded me, "That old man looked pretty nervous when you gave it back to him, he might know something about it."

"Yes, but I can't ask him directly, I can't guarantee what role Gavin played in this conspiracy."

After a brief discussion with Elvo, I sent my best subordinate to investigate the whole thing.

He quickly investigated the truth, perhaps because the Dylan's family had left too many clues behind this time.

It never occurred to me that the Dylan's family had actually made a deal with Gavin to send Lydia to Gavin's bed for what seemed like a rather ridiculous price.

That old Gavin with gray hair could even be Lydia's grandfather!

After reading all the reports, great anger swept over me.

What Lydia said was true!

The Dylan's family deceived everyone, and they did not treat Lydia well.

And that damn Gavin, he had the delusion to sleep with my mate! Although I rejected Lydia, she was my mate at that time.

I shuddered to think that poor Lydia must have seen me as her last chance at that moment, but I rejected her unmercifully and said so many hurtful things.

A huge wave of guilt overwhelmed me, and I couldn't help blaming myself for my carelessness.

If I had not believed Kelly's bullshit so easily at that time, if I had given Lydia a little more time and let her tell me everything clearly, wouldn't the outcome have been different?

Unlike now, she looked at me so coldly, as if I were really her enemy.

I couldn't wait to fly to Glory Pack at the moment to bring Lydia back, and show her what I did to the Dylan's family and that disgusting Gavin.

But no, Gavin was an elder of Dawn Pack, I couldn't just dispose of him like that.

I had to find enough evidence before I could deal with him.

Looking in the direction of Glory Pack, I thought of Lydia's happy face and had very mixed feelings.

It should be out of guilt, and I couldn't help but want to see her.
