Chapter 6

KATE.

I caught sight of Drew as I wheeled my luggage through the terminal. I stopped to catch my breath then continued, all the while he just stared at me blankly. When I finally got to him, he said, "You're four minutes late. Be faster next time. "

I gaped at him, "I got here at exactly 9AM. "

"It took you four minutes to drag that massive thing here. " he flicked his hand to my luggage.

"You could've been a gentleman and helped me. "

He smirked, "I'm anything but a gentle man. "

I felt my face heat. Did he just make a sex joke? He turned around before I could come up with something to say, and that was good because I came up with nothing.

Once we boarded the plane –first class of course, I took the window seat and Drew took the one next to me. His cologne and body wash assaulted my nostrils. He smelled good –the products he used and that scent that was uniquely him.

We started take-off and immediately the plane started rocking, I gripped Drew's hand. He glanced at my hand on his then at my face. I removed it and gripped the armrest instead.

"Is this your first time on a plane? " he asked, his voice void of emotion.

"No, I just really hate takeoff and landing. " I said, willing my breaths to slow down.

He said nothing after that and I instantly felt stupid for explaining to him. As soon as we were in the air, he brought out an iPad and started reading what I assumed was a work document. So he was just going to ignore me?

I plugged my earphones in, leaning my head on the window. There's minutes later, I glanced at him and he was still reading the document, or another one. I didn't care. The fact was that, he was ignoring me.

I slept off and woke up when we were about landing. Drew's iPad was nowhere in sight and he was just staring forward, his jaw clenched. I grabbed his hand subconsciously, but this time, he didn't say anything.

A limousine picked us from the airport and took us to the hotel where Drew paid for two suites. I told him I didn't need a suite that a hotel room would do, but of course he ignored me. In fact, I wasn't sure he heard me in the first place, what with the way the receptionist flashed her generous assets at him and told him they delivered the best services –in more ways than one obviously.

He ignored me all through the ride up, and even the walk to our rooms –which happened to be opposite each other. He walked so fast, I couldn't keep up with him in my short legs.

"Are we taking dinner together downstairs? " I asked, I didn't know about him but I wasn't one to joke with food.

He looked at me like I had two heads, "Order. I assume you know how room service works. " he swiped his key card then slammed the door in my face. Asshole. Well, he asked me to order, or rather, ordered me to order. I was going to eat every damn meal in the place. Hell, I'd even order some wine and get a spa treatment. He better be ready for a huge bill, after all, he could afford it.

I swiped my key card and got into my room. I couldn't help but admire the suite, it was luxury all round. I sighed. Oh, how wonderful it would be to live like this again.

I rolled my bag to the bedroom where the bed called to me. I plopped down on it and laid for a few minutes before the telephone caught my eye. Hmm.

Ten minutes later, I had six meals and dessert in front of me. Fuck you very much, Drew Rutledge.

After eating, I soaked in a hot tub, doned the hotel robe then ordered a wine. I lay on the couch in the sitting area, sipping my drink when I remembered I hadn't asked Drew what time we were having the meeting. I know it's tomorrow and I was stoked but that little information must have slipped me.

I got up and walked out of my room without thinking about it. I stood in front of his door and knocked. I was about to knock again when he opened the door, his face etched in a scowl.

It was almost comical how his expression changed so fast. He looked shocked, his eyes raking my body with so much heat, I was surprised my robe didn't catch fire. So he was attracted to me.

"Hi. Sorry for disturbing you but I forgot to ask the time our client will be coming tomorrow. "

He drew his gaze upward, "You mean, you came here, in that, to ask what time the meeting is? " his voice was hoarse.

"Yeah. " I said, faking politeness.

He pinched the bridge of is nose, staring skyward for about five seconds, then brought his eyes back to mine. "4pm. " he grated out.

I smirked inwardly. I came out here with the sole intention of asking for the time of the meeting but knowing he was attracted to me? Huge bonus. "Thanks. " I chirped then turned around, marched to my suite and got in. I only heard his door closing a minute later.

Kate 2 – Drew 0

•••

I smoothened my pencil skirt as I hurried over to Drew's side. The tension was palpable as we entered the elevator. I stepped out immediately it stopped, catching a smirk on Drew's face. Asshole.

We met our client at the restaurant downstairs. He gave Drew a handshake then came over to hug me, with a glint in his eyes. He was a young man, not much older than me, with dusty brown hair that was already receeding. He wore a blue two-piece suit and shoes so shiny they nearly blinded me.

As I sat, I saw Drew scowling. I swear, that man rarely had another expression on his face. Wine was brought over and we drank, discussing as we did. Mr Downley was the manager of his company and if we could score him, then we've scored his company.

"We're thinking of adopting the PhaseTwo actually. It's been having over the top reviews. " Downley said, then faced Drew, "Congrats on that by the way. "

"Thanks. " Drew said.

"So, what do you think? The PhaseTwo would be more suitable right? " he prompted.

I looked to Drew to answer but he kept quiet. I raised a brow in silent question and he raised one right back. The asshole!. So this was his plan all along. He expected me to fuck up this meeting then he'd have a very good reason to fire me. I seethed inside and smiled outside, which caused him to do a double take. Drew Rutledge was in for a surprise. I was going to land this client with a flourish.

I cleared my throat, sitting up in my chair, "Actually, I think it would be smarter to go with the PhaseOne because while the PhaseTwo is updated and has more features, the PhaseOne is designed to carry out the particular operation you want it to. Seeing that you are not yet familiar with them yet, the PhaseOne would be the easier option. "

Downley stared at me with a new light in his eyes and there was silence from Drew's part of the table. "Do you agree Mr. Rutledge? " Downley asked and I stared at Drew, holding my breath.

Three long, soul-chattering seconds, then, "Yes. "

One word. Three reactions. Shock, relief, gratitude.

"Very well, we'll be working with the PhaseOne."

Drew agreed with me? Did that mean he's finally accepting that I'm good enough to work for him? Maybe he's not so bad after all.

"If it doesn't work out well and you have any complaints, contact Ms. Rossi. " Drew added. I changed my mind. He was so bad after all.

Downley beamed, "I'll be needing your number then. "

As I rattled it off, Drew interrupted, "You can call her work phone. "

What?

Downley's smile dropped, then I interferred, "You might need to call me on something important when I'm not at the office " his smile returned full force. I glanced at Drew and saw he was clenching his jaws. I didn't know what was up with Drew but he was not going to ruin my progress.

"He doesn't need to have your personal number. " Drew argued in that controlled voice of his. Gah. I hated how he could sound so in-control all the time. It pissed me off.

"You can have my number, Downley. " I showed my teeth in something too shark-like to be a smile.

Downley's eyes ping-ponged between the two of us as I rattled off the rest of my number and he stored it, ringing me so I could have his too.

We stood outside the hotel, saying goodbye to Downley. He shook hands with Drew and gave me a hug, lingering a second too long. Drew followed the movement with a ticket in his jaw. Or maybe I imagined it?

I walked beside a silent Drew as we made our way back inside. And whaddya know? He ignored me all through the elevator ride.

Drew.

I flung my suit on a couch, too fucking angry to see straight. The piece of shit was interested in Kate and she led him on. Then he'd hugged her and I saw red.

I paced the span of the living area. Fuck. Why was I even angry anyway? I didn't care about her and even more I had no claim on her. So why was I fuming mad?

I ran my hands through my hair, trying to calm myself, but everytime I pictured his hand resting on her back, I got pissed all over again. When I had no right!. "Fuuucckk. " It was her fault for being so good, so strong, so amazing. It was her fault for being so..... her.

I wonder what she's doing. Had the bastard called her already?

Unable to control my anger anymore, I flung my door open and crossed to hers, banging on it.

"Coming. " she said in a cherry voice. Happy? I wondered why. She opened the door and the first thing I saw was bare feet. I trailed my eyes higher and saw bare tan legs. Wait. Bare?

I looked up and was greeted with a face bare of make-up. She wore an oversized grey hoodie and red shorts that barely covered her ass. Fuck.

She cleared her throat, prompting me to look up. She was so beautiful she took my breath away.

"What are you doing here? " she snapped.

She was mad? "What reason do you have to talk to me like that? "

"I'm busy and I don't have time for your crap. Tell me why you came over here and get out. "

I looked over her shoulder into the suite, "You're not doing anything. "

She crossed her hands, drawing my eyes to her boobs and distracting me for a second, "What do you want? "

"What I want is to know why you gave our client your number. You know he's a work client right? Not one you sleep with. "

Her mouth dropped open. Without her heels, I was a foot taller than her. Her tiny size made me want to keep her in my pocket and carry her everywhere with me.

"I cannot believe you right now. " she said, red creeping into her face.

"I'm not the one who's about to fuck a client. " I snapped.

"What? You're delusional. "

I shrugged, "Just calling it like I see it. "

"Get out. " she yelled.

I pushed past her, walking inside, her scent bombarding my nostrils.

"Are you deaf? I said get the fuck out. " she had one hand on her hip, her right leg bouncing.

"No, I heard you perfectly. What I don't understand is why you think you can order me around. I'm the boss in case you forgot and you're the fucking employee. You're nothing, Rossi and I'm everything. "

She rocked on her heels like I hit her and I almost felt bad. Almost. She took four steps, closing the space between us. She poked my abs, "I might be nothing, Drew, but you're not everything. You're nothing, just like me but unlike me, you hide from the truth. You're attracted to me but you're too much of a pussy to admit it to yourself. So don't ever tell me what is and what isn't. "

I took a step back, her words hitting me in the face. I wanted her. I wanted Kate Rossi even after what she did, I fucking wanted her. "I don't. " I said, grasping at straws, "I don't want you. You're not even a blip on my fucking radar. "

She smiled a sad smile and when I looked in her eyes, I could see I had hurt her. I don't know why that caused a strange feeling in my chest.

"You're still lying to yourself, Drew. Get out. " she turned, dismissing me.

I turned for the door, gripped the doorknob in my hand. Get out. Get the fuck out, Drew. I inhaled, exhaled, then turned back around, shoulders slumped in defeat. "I can't. "

She paused mid-stride,"What? "

"I can't leave. " I grumbled.

She still didn't turn to look at me, "I don't understand. "

I snapped, did she want me to spell it out for her? "I want to leave but I can't and I don't know why even though I clearly want to. What the fuck do you not understand about that? "

She turned and stared at me. Just fucking stared. Hell, why did that make me uncomfortable?

"What is it? " I snapped. I was in such a mood.

"Apologize. " she said.

"What for? " I titled my head. She leaned on her right leg, my gaze glued to her golden legs. I bet her skin would be soft and her lips even softer. Fuck. What would it be like to kiss her? To run my hands through that luxurious mane? I groaned.

She looked at me strangely, "Apologize for saying I gave Downley my number because I want to sleep with him. " I stared at her lips longingly, her words barely penetrating my lust induced brain.

"You didn't? " I prowled towards her.

Her eyes lit up in anger, "You –" I slammed her against the wall, covering her lips with mine.

I nibbled on her lower lip, enjoying the juicy feel of it then nibbled on the upper one, but she wasn't kissing me back. I pushed my tongue at the seam of her lips, demanding entrance when I felt it. The moment she stopped fighting. Her body became supple, leaning into me as she opened her lips. I pushed my tongue in, swallowing her moan. Her mouth was hell. Sweet, sweet hell. And I gladly burned in her fire.

I wrapped my hands around her waist then slipped them lower, grabbing fistfuls of her generous ass, then I hoisted her upwards. She wrapped her legs around my waist, hooking them at my back. I ground into her, aching for release. I was hard as a fucking rock from a kiss. A kiss! What was this woman doing to me?

She broke the kiss and dragged her lips down the side of my neck, sucking hard on my pulse point. I shuddered, my knees going weak. I backed away from the wall and walked backwards to a couch where I fell on it.

She quickly sat on me, grabbing my face in her soft, small palms and kissing the fuck out of me. She unbuttoned my shirt with agonizing slowness as I trailed my hands under her shirt. I covered a breast with my palm. She didn't have big boobs, just small ones and they were the perfect handful.

I massaged her boobs, rolling a nipple between my thumb and forefinger. She moaned, abandoning her task of unbuttoning my shirt and leaning on me.

"I like that. " she said then dragged her tongue from the top of my lips to the bottom, slowly.

"Fuuucckk. " this woman was going to be the death of me. And when I thought about it, there were worse ways to go.

She pushed away from me, staring at a spot on my neck. "This is definitely going to leave a mark. "

"I don't care. " I wanted to take her shirt off and see her nipples, fucking feast on them. She giggled all of a sudden and I glanced at her, inhaling a sharp breath at how beautiful she looked. Her lips were swollen from the kisses and her cheeks a rosy red. This was the first time I'd seen her smile, besides that night where I learned who she was.

I froze. Jesus H Christ. I was making out with Kate Rossi. The employee. The nothing.

I pushed her off me and stood up abruptly. I glanced down and saw she was sprawled on the couch, her hair a disheveled mess. I looked away from her, buttoning my shirt. Why did I let myself get carried away?

I turned back around to say something cruel when she said, "Apologize. "

So we were back on the same page. That pissed me off. I wanted her to beg. To plead for me to stay. I wanted her beneath me. Where all Rossis belonged.

I kept my voice controlled, "You can fuck human when we're done with him. That way you wouldn't be violating any rules. " I forced out, seething inside.

"You're an asshole, Drew. " her voice was flat.

"This was a mistake. " I said, then walked out the door.

I beat one off before sleeping that night and it didn't do much for me. That said something.

We went back the next day and everything returned back to normal. Or so I thought.
