Chapter 4 Dinner Together

Later at night Aurora and I go out for dinner to make up for our missed lunch date. We just ordered and are waiting for our food while chatting.

"What took you so long when you went to Stefano s office. I didn t get to ask you about it when you came back because of the pile of work I had on my plate," Aurora says, and takes a sip of her wine.

"He was on a call, I had to wait for him to finish before I could drop the documents and leave."

"Thank God, I was worried he had a problem with the work you did."

"No, he did not."

"Good, speak of the devil."

"What do you mean?"

"Stefano is here," Aurora says, raising her hand to call someone behind me.

I turn around and behold; he is here. He looks a little different from a few hours ago. His tie is nowhere to be seen, and his white shirt has two buttons undone. His hair looks a little rough, and you can tell he has put his hand through it a lot today. He seems a little exhausted, but still ravishing as ever. He walks over to our table with someone by his side.

"Hi, Aurora," he says.

"Hey, Stefano, how are you?"

"I am good, and you, Sis?"

"A bit tired from work but I am sure you know that. This is my friend Andrea" Aurora says, introducing me.

"I know who she is, I am sure you remember David," he says, barely glancing at me.

"Of course, I do, are you already done eating, or you just get here?" Aurora asks.

"We just arrived"

"Great, why don t you join us? We just ordered our food."

"I don t think that will be necessary, Aurora."

"I insist, it would be nice to have more people to talk to while we eat. don t you think so, Andrea"

"Sure, why not," I say, not really caring if he joins us or not, as he s already acting like I don t exist.

"It is not a bad idea," David says to Stefano.

"Alright, I guess we could all eat together," Stefano says sounding unhappy to be joining us.

"Great, David, why don t you join me here while Stefano sits beside Andrea," Aurora says, directing David to a seat beside her.

"Ok, sure," David says, walking over to the seat beside her while Stefano sits beside me.

"Good, I will call the waiter so you guys can order your food," Aurora says, drawing the waiter s attention to our table.

They both order their food before Aurora engages us in a conversation.

"So, Stefano Andrea was just telling me how you were pleased with the work she did earlier. Did you know she has a Master s in Business Management? She would have been an excellent secretary; too bad she does not live in Sicily."

"I did not say so and I doubt she would be good for the job."

"Why would you say that?" I am a little offended by his words

"Because I have a feeling you would be a terrible secretary."

"Excuse me, how would you know if I will be good or bad at the job."

"Given the way you behaved earlier in my office, it s enough for me to know you would be horrible."

"How did I behave in your office," I say trying to recall if I did anything wrong earlier in his office.

"I asked you to do things a secretary is supposed to do earlier in my office, and you refused because you are friends with Aurora."

Stefano was rude to me earlier today, even if I were his secretary, that wouldn t have been any way to speak to me. I can t believe he is saying I would be a terrible secretary when I have never worked for him before.

"I refused to do them because I am not your secretary, not because I am friends with Aurora."

"Whatever, you still failed to impress me, with the chance you had."

"I was not trying to impress you and I would not be your secretary even if you begged me," I say, starting to feel frustrated with our argument.

"I don t want you to."

"I think that s enough, both of you. Why don t we all talk about something else?" Aurora says.

"Yeah, I think we should leave work out of the topics to talk about while we eat," David says as the waiters serves our food.

"I guess we should," I say, digging into my food, trying to forget our argument.

The next day I woke up a little tired from all the work I helped Aurora with at her office. I just stepped out of the shower and I plan to go to a spa for a massage. I am about to put on my clothes when a knock comes at my door. I tie my bathrobe back and walk over to the door to find out who it is. I am guessing it s one of my family members, but I am wrong. The person I see at the door is not someone I would have ever imagined being here.

"Where is the document?" Stefano says.

"What?"

"The documents, and could you hurry? I have a meeting to attend with those documents."

"What are you talking about?" I ask confused.

"God! Excuse me, you are wasting my time," he says, walking into my bedroom.

"Excuse me, what are you doing? You can t just barge into my room like this," I say, annoyed with his behaviour.

He looks around for something before finally speaking again

"Where is the document Aurora asked you to give me?"

"I don t know what you are talking about."

"The document she just spoke to you on the phone about," he says, looking at me like I am crazy for not knowing what he is talking about.

"I haven t spoken to Aurora today; I don t know what you are talking about."

"She must have called you."

"I just stepped out of the shower; I haven t received any calls from her. Let me call her and find out why you look like you want to kill me if I do not provide whatever document, you are looking for," I say, picking up my phone to dial Aurora s number. I unlock my phone and see that I have a few missed calls from her and a voicemail. She must have called while I was showering. The phone rings for a few seconds before she finally answers.

"Hi Aurora, how are you?" I say, once she answers.

"I am good. Did you get my voicemail?"

"I haven t listened to it yet; but Stefano is here requesting for some documents. Do you know what he is talking about?"

"Yes, I do, that is actually why I have been calling. I can t find the document you helped me proofread yesterday for the Chicago deal. I asked Stefano to swing by your place and find out if you had it with you."

"I don t have it with me, why would I take it out of your office? I left it there yesterday."

"I guessed as much, but I can t find it."

"Wow, I didn t take it out of your office. Maybe I should come over and help you look for it."

"That wouldn t be a bad idea,"

"Alright, I will be there soon," I say hanging up the phone.

"Get dressed, we don t have enough time," he says once I hang up the phone

"I know, why don t you wait for me outside."

"Make it quick," he says, walking out of my room.

I shake my head at his arrogant attitude and walk to my little closet to get dressed. I quickly change into a turtleneck sweater, ripped Levis, tan suede boots and a beige satchel handbag. I walk outside to join Stefano so we could go to the office.

I pray dearly for my life the whole ride to the office; Stefano does not seem to care about his life with these driving skills. Once we reach the office, I don t waste any time and take the elevator straight to Aurora s office. I find her looking through her office drawers as I step in. I walk over to her and show her where I remember putting the documents, luckily for us, it s still there. I hand it over to her and say goodbye because she has a meeting to attend.

Stefano s behavior earlier was totally unnecessary. He could clearly tell I was confused about what he was talking about but he refused to reason with me and explain. Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with his brain. He is such an attractive man, but so rude. I don t even remember what I saw in him years ago. He s still the same arrogant man I knew years ago.
