Chapter 5 DAWN.

THURSDAY

All vampires had dialled up hearing and sight. According to how Tia had described it, she could see objects that were up to a hundred meters away like they were only a few feet in front of her and she said that she could also hear very low distant sounds like that of a butterfly fluttering its wings clearly.

My vision was special because of the see-through sight. Although I could barely tune into this Supreme ability of mine by will, it usually came in handy whenever I needed to spy on one of them without leaving my room.

Jhan was barely at home for the next five days, leaving very early in the morning and returning late at night. He had a special duty to perform at the higher which he took very seriously, Today was a Thursday, Leya went to school as usual and Jereum's wounds were almost totally healed thanks to a special herb mixture Leya had joyfully applied to his face, I had seen the guilt behind his stoic expressions as Leya tended to his wounds. And since then, he had been a little kinder to her.

Tia didn't leave the house today, and she wouldn't leave me alone for a moment. And with Tia with me, that meant Jereum would be watching me like a hawk.

Turns out that the Dallas boys got the penalty of decapitation, a harsh punishment where all your limbs are cut off and you will be restrained in pure steel shackles until they grow back, gruesome. So Tia told me. Jereum wasn't in the living space and I was at my favourite spot on sofa. Tia was sitting beside me; she was reading what seemed to be a romance novel.

My body was completely healed but Tia insisted that she stayed by me no matter how healed I thought I was until she deemed me strong enough. I was getting more comfortable with her around. After my glorious beat down at the higher court, she insisted that I sleep in her room for that night. Jhan had no problem with it but Jereum didn't quite like the idea. I slept beside on her large comfy bed for two days straight and this time, even my brain went into sleep mode so I have no idea of what happened around me.

She even once planted a kiss on my forehead before I slept. She must have thought I was already at sleep but I was just awake enough to remember it.

I told Leya about the woman I had seen. I was most free with her mostly because I thought her to be a loyal friend. She said that Jhan could help me remember more about my life but I'll have to tell him first. Something I rather not do because if I did let Jhan use his mind's-eye to peer into my head, he may see the plans I have to sneak to the hospital, I was being treated at, and keep a closer eye on me. My plan could not be ruined and my aspiration to figure out more about myself was eating me from the inside out.

I needed to clear my head; thinking about all of this was making me mentally worn out.

"I'll take a walk around the block Tia," I said.

She put down the book and looked at me.

"Do you want me to come with?" She asked, but I needed some time to myself.

"No, I'll be fine. I just need some fresh air and a chance to alone," I said, already standing up and heading for the door.

"I give you ten minutes." The boy had appeared out of nowhere. Jereum stood at the stairs, looking at me, a suspicious glare to his eyes.

"Okay," I said and I walked through the small corridor that led to the main door.

I started walking down the street, keeping my pace quick and steady. I didn't quite feel an urge for blood; as long as I stayed away from humans I should be fine. But I would still get hungry eventually. I would still need to drink blood to survive.

The problem was I didn't want to kill anyone, I didn't see people as vampire food and that made me hate the thoughts of killing someone just to satisfy my thirsts. I could eat animals, this town had forested areas at both of its ends and even at its side outskirts, which I was sure had plenty of animals I could feed upon.

About thirty minutes had passed and I was sure I had passed several blocks. I could now see the far end of town and I was sure that I was as far away from our street as possible, no one could find me here and I could see the horizon of the forest area at the distance. I was turning a corner when I heard a high pitched scream. The scream was loud, it put me on high alert. I saw a woman, probably in her twenties. She was screaming and backing away from the vampire who was hissing and nearing her. In a flash, the vampire grabbed her bit her neck.

I was pinned to the spot, in shock.

'What was he doing?'

The woman's struggling ended instantly, and I saw her eyelids dull.

'He killed her..."

All it took was a single bite and the woman's life was drained out of her. I looked at her pale face. The vampire dropped her and blood trickled down his lips dropping onto his bare hairy chest. He caught sight of me and a thick blanket of fear covered me.

He moved so fast, and in an instant he was in front of me, sniffing at my face.

He grimaced and I caught sight of his grey eyes. "Join the hunt..." His voice was gruff and deep and I saw him leap towards the apartment complexes, grabbing hold of a metal railing and throwing himself higher and higher until he got on the building and out of my sight.

I returned my gaze back to the dead woman. She probably had a family and friends and people who care about her. I heard another high pitched scream and that was when I realized that the hunt was all around me. I could hear people's dreadful screams emanating from different areas. It filled me with fear and made me scared of my own being. 'Why would they do this?' I asked myself.

'This is wrong, this is evil... We are monsters, demons... This is devilish why couldn't they just eat animals like or yet still get blood from hospitals.' I felt the stinging of tears at the corner of my eyes. I blinked it away. I needed to get out of here, to get away from all this. This is not who I am. I am not a killer...

With the loud crack, I ran away even further from home. I just kept on running but the farther away I got, the more dreadful screams I heard. I was disoriented, fuzzy, hazed. I kept on running and running. I felt the warmth of tears as they streamed down my face them were pushed back by the rushing wind against me.

I ran until I couldn't hear any more screams. My mind was filled with the images of dead innocent people.

I lost concentration, my leg hit the other and I fell, face first. I skid across the rough ground, scratching away the skin of my face and breaking my nose. I turned over, touching my disfigured face that was already healing up. I don't know how long I lay there, filled with the painful truth that my kind were indeed demons.

I heard a piercing sound. Like the scream of a terrified ten year old. I got up quickly and looked to either side of the surrounding areas. It was all deserted; this should be the outskirts of the town. I heard it again and then I heard a girl desperately pleading for her life. I spotted a chubby vampire and he was hissing and drawing closer to a petrified girl that had bolted out of a red car.

This place was far away from the main town, in fact, there were no houses here and up ahead I saw the start to a forest, I could actually save her. She was backing away, trembling in every limb. Her purse dropped from her shoulders, she stumbled back and fell to the ground. The vampire got to her. She covered her face in her hands and pleaded for her life.

"Please I beg you... Please, please, PLEASE!!!" She screamed. The vampire got to her.

"Oh it almost breaks my heart, but I've been given a new life and I'm gonna enjoy every second of it..." He hissed.

These were the outlying areas, very far away from the main town and its activities. It made me wonder how she had got her in the first place. A vampire could easily spot a lonely victim and take advantage of it.

I stood up. Watching her cower in fear for her life was making me want to protect her.

"Let her go!" I shouted across the distance.

The boy, who was about to stick his inch long fangs into her throat looked up.

"She's kill—"

"She's my kill!" I bellowed.

"Na, ah…" He swayed his index finger slowly to either side.

I started closing the distance, walking closer and closer and that when I recognized the vampire. My eyes widened with shock, my mouth unconsciously fell open as I looked at the chubby vampire.

"It can't be..."

Flashes of the round, frail looking, and pale face flashed through my mind and with it came nausea.

"I watched you die! I watched you die... It CAN'T BE!!!" I bellowed. But even in my doubt I found truth. It could have been as easy as it was to impurify me to impurify him.

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no..."

"How is this possible...?"

The face that was once frail and sullen with pain, was now vampire pale and filled with so much hate and anger it emanated off his skin. He didn't seem to recognize me but there was no way I would mistake that round, feature less face. The vampire was the boy who had removed his drip line and died in the hospital beside me.
