Chapter 5: Rings

Maverick's POV:

Maya and I got out of the elevator. She followed me behind to my office. Then she dropped my bag she's been carrying on my desk.

"I'll get to work sir," She said walking away and swinging her hips as if trying to seduce me. I smiled.

I took off my jacket and carefully dropped it on the couch. I sat on my seat and well, I began to work.

I looked at the time, it was 11:30 am. I should get going to De la Cruz. It was only right that I arrived early enough before my clients did. I closed the opened file in front of me and stood up from my seat.

I arranged a few documents by the side. One I'd give Maya to deliver to Levi.

I called Maya on the office telephone and asked her to get prepared to leave for the meeting. But it looked like she was always prepared. I love this assistant of mine. She was fast and perfect.

She was at the door once the call dropped.

"I'm all set sir, plus everything is ready," She said smiling.

"Just like you" I raised a thumb up for her. Made her smile even more.

"You should use this sir," Maya said offering me a black tie. A tie? I mean it's just a meeting with Nike. But on a second thought, instead of objecting, I obediently took the tie from her and began to knot it round my neck.

"May I sir?" Maya asked coming closer to me.

" okay" I let her knot the tie. Looked so perfect. I felt the tie. "Thanks, Maya"

"Send a message to Levi, let him know I have a few documents for him to sign," I told Maya and she nodded

" I'm on it sir," She said typing on her iPad.

Already?. Another reason I loved Maya. She was fast and smart. I'd kept her as my assistant for 3 years and was not sure if I was going to replace her anytime soon.

"Done" She announced raising her head and looking at me.

"Okay, shall we?" I gestured with my hand for the door.

" Yes sir" She nodded and walked before me through the door.

We went through the corridor, with some workers walking by practicing eye service. I could just sack them because deep down, they were not working. Just hanging around to gossip. I sighted Oscar, the media director. That jerk is out of his office talking to a woman. What the hell? Playing with my baby? I hewed myself with enough energy to not act with anybody's actions.

We walked fast and steadily into the elevator and I pressed the button.

While the elevator counted to the ground floor, I weirdly began to think about Natalie, the woman I'm going to get married to soon enough. I didn't plan to think of her, but I was inside the elevator, in the middle of work.

Her tiny waist was very vivid in her gown. Her round ass and the way it hung out. The way that gown held her breast, appeared amazing. She was womanly beautiful. I knew she didn't expect me to compliment her at the door but I did. Just sad such beauty would be stuck with me soon enough. She was young I just knew from the moment I spotted her.

Wait? Why was I thinking of Natalie? Why did I think she was beautiful? What was wrong with me? Why did I see her ass in my head?

"Shit! Mav, stop it" I muttered in-between my breaths.

"Sir?" Maya asked turning to me.

"No, nothing Maya," I said adjusting the tie, I cleared my throat well enough to be sure I didn't sound any different.

A few seconds later the elevator opened to the ground floor and Maya and I stepped out.

My driver, Eric was waiting for us already. De La Cruz Cuisine was a 30 mins drive from the company.

When we got into the car, my phone beeped inside the bag Maya carried. The car engine purred as Eric began to drive.

"Check my phone Maya" I requested. She nodded and dug her hand inside the bag to get my phone. She took out the phone and looked at it for a while.

"What does it say?" I asked. Her face sent negative vibes. It didn't look like she loved what she saw.

"Maya?" I called looking at her.

"Emm...... Sorry. It's your mom " she said her focus still on the phone. "She said to meet with Natalie tomorrow to shop for your rings" Then she turned to me.

" Rings?" She asked. I didn't expect that question, but I wondered why the question. I didn't respond.

"Sir, are you actually getting married to the lady?" She asked again.

"I thought it was a contract, you-"

" Maya?" I called. "About that," I cleared my throat. And then a little adjustment on my tie once more. "Like you already know, it's a contract, some girl I'm supposed to marry" I turned to find Maya's eyes still on me.

"By the way, this is not business Maya. What did I say about personal stuff? This is personal stuff, you should mind your business. Mind what questions you ask me" I guess I frightened her because she didn't bother to speak again.

"I'm sorry sir" Was all she said, and then a palpable silence greeted us.

Could Maya be sad I was getting married? I couldn't say. She had only been my assistant nothing more. Except she was a better assistant. Knowing her for those years she had helped me sometimes to cook when Jane my cook was off. She had access to my penthouse. I just trusted her enough to let her through. My family knew her and sometimes mom invited her for lunch or dinner. But so far, she didn't have any reason to be sad I was getting married even if she had wanted to. It became a short quiet drive before Eric pulled up in front of De La Cruz.

Maya and I came out with Maya leading the way. We would possibly wait a little longer before our clients arrived. So we were accompanied to our reservations where we would sit and wait.
