Chapter 5
Brandon's POV
"Did you find out everything that we asked you to?" I asked as Landon, and I walked into my office.
We had decided that we needed to learn everything about Ariel that we could. It was evident that she knew nothing about werewolves, and her father was married to one. There were so many questions that Landon and I needed answers to.
"Yes, Alpha Brandon. Here is everything we could find on our Luna. I also had some of the Pack Warriors pick up Yolanda, and they are on their way back with her now," Gabriel said. Gabriel was replacing Leo as Beta.
"Thank you, Gabriel. You can go now," Landon said, and Gabriel left my office.
Landon and I sat down and began looking through the file Gabriel gave us. We learned that her father died mysteriously from passing out. That caused the insurance company not to pay out the insurance policy he had taken out because the doctors were suspicious. That must have been why Yolanda asked to borrow money from our Pack.
"Well, our Mate is very smart. She had received an acceptance letter to Harvard Law," Landon said and handed me the letter.
I looked over the letter and noticed that she not only got into Harvard but also received a scholarship for her whole time there. As long as she passed all of her classes with a B or better, she would be able to keep it. That didn't seem like a problem for her, seeing that she was a straight-A student. I began to feel guilty for taking this away from her. But I couldn't let her go, and neither could my brother. She was our Mate, and we needed her.
When a werewolf finds their Mate, they need them. Any romantic feeling they had with anyone else disappears, and their Mate is the only one they want. Werewolves, especially an Alpha, can't go long without being with their Mate. Because Landon and I are the Alphas of our Pack, Ariel is the Luna. I was sure most of the Pack would respect Ariel, but I was worried about the ones that had a problem with humans. My brother and I also didn't like humans That is until we found out our Mate was one. I am not saying that Landon and I don't have a problem with humans still because that would be a lie. I am saying that we know that we have to work on our problem with them for our Mate. She is the only human that we want to be around right now, and we both know she will not like it if we hate her kind. We never want to make her unhappy.
"Come in," I said, and Gabriel walked in with Yolanda.
"Thank you, Gabriel. You can go now," I said, and he left.
"Please have a seat," I said to Yolanda, and she sat down.
"Alphas, I don't know why you sent for me," Yolanda asked with a frightened expression on her face.
"We wanted to talk to you about Ariel," I said.
"What would you like to know?" Yolanda asked.
"You were married to her father, right?" I asked.
"Yes, I was, but sadly he died a few months ago,"
"What about Ariel's mother's mom?" I asked.
"She died giving birth to Ariel," Yolanda said.
I felt a pain in my heart knowing that Ariel never had the chance to meet her mom.
"My brother and I will take you home. We want to retrieve Ariel's belongings," I said, and we all went to my car.
Yolanda lived among the humans. I didn't know much about her or why she had become a rogue and never thought to ask.
"Where is Ariel's room," I asked.
"Oh, her room was in the basement. Follow me," Yolanda said and took us to the basement.
I couldn't believe where my Mate had been sleeping. The basement was small, dark, and cold. There was only a mattress with a sheet and blanket.
"This was her room?" Landon asked, and I knew he was just as pissed as I was.
"Yeah, she used to have a room upstairs before her father died, but I moved her down here. Didn't want her in my way," Yolanda said.
"Is that so?" I asked.
"Yeah, she was only allowed to leave the basement when she went to school, work, or cleaned the house. The two of you made a good decision to take her instead of Katie. Ariel was made to be your slave. I was going to sell her to another wolf in a few weeks, but you got her first," Yolanda said.
"How dare you disrespect our Mate," Landon growled, shocking Yolanda.
"Your mate," Yolanda said with a surprised expression on her face.
"You heard him; she is our Mate, and you have mistreated her," I said.
"I didn't know; I mean, I am sorry," Yolanda began to say, but Landon grabbed her and threw her into the wall.
"Gabriel, I need you to come and lock Yolanda into a cell," I mind-linked.
"Yes, Alpha, I am on my way," Gabriel said, and ten minutes later, he walked in.
"She must have really pissed the two of you off," Gabriel asked.
"This was where Ariel slept for years," I said, and he looked around the basement. He picked Yolanda up and took her away. Landon and I walked upstairs and out of the house.
"What are you doing with my mom?" Katie said as Yolanda walked up to the house with Gabriel holding her arm.
"You better be lucky you are not going with her. If I had proof that you hurt Ariel like your mom did, you would be in a cell along with her," I said, and Landon and I got in the car.
"Can you believe how Ariel lived?" Landon asked.
"No, I can't, but she will never live like that again," I said, and I meant it. Landon and I were going to make sure Ariel had the best life possible. We were going to give her the world.
