Chapter Four

I stared at Jay while having my breakfast. He is too busy with his work.

"Jay, the food is so tasty."

"That's ok but tell me this. Do you have a habit of lying?"

I coughed listening to his question. Is he doubting me? I shook my head in no.

Jay gave water to me and read a news on his laptop.

"Ms. Vidya Singh won the first prize in the cooking competition conducted by the Youth Talent Show."

He looked at me seriously and I got tears as I am frightened for him. He came and sat before me.

"Do you have anything to say?"

"I am sorry, Jay. As I was angry with you at that time, I lied to you saying that I don't know cooking."

"Shut up," Jay shouted at me.

I was scared and dropped the plate. Is he going to hurt me again for lying to him?

"I hate lies and cheating. You will be punished for this, Vidya, the daughter of Anand. I won't spare you. I think you too have the habits of your father."

Saying this Jay raised his hand to slap me. I closed my eyes while tears were flowing from my eyes. However, Jay didn't hurt me.

Vidya, don't cry. It's ok. I forgave you. Please stop crying. I can't see you crying. Open your eyes and look at me."

I looked at him.

"This should be the last time. If you repeat it, then you will be tasting my anger," Jay said and I nodded.

Jay came close to me and wiped my tears away. He kissed on my forehead leaving me in shock.

"You look very beautiful when you smile. So, always keep smiling. I am sorry, beautiful."

I didn't speak anything and looked at him with fear.

"I won't force you to do the works which you don't like. So be frank and if you don't like anything, just say that to me but don't lie to me. I hate lies," Jay said.

"From today I will prepare the food for you," I said.

"Not really necessary and it's upto you. I never force you. I don't want to restrict you in anything except talking to your father. You should obey me in this regard whether you like it or not. If you talk with him without my permission, then I won't be this cool and friendly with you. Keep this in your mind."

I was fed up with his lecture. Whenever it's the topic of my dad, Jay becomes angry and his anger is too scary for me.

"Jay, please don't start the same lecture again. I think by mistake you became a rock star but professor is the suitable profession to you. Stop the lecture and smile a little for me. You look awesome while you smile," I said, surprising Jay.

"Now get ready. Let's go out if you like. You are not a prisoner to stay at home all the time and you might feel bore. So, first let's go to my favorite place and then, whereever you want," Jay said, smiling at me.

"Wow, I am really tired of being at home all the time. It's really frustrating. I hate it," I said.

I went and got ready. I wore a red coloured sari. Jay came into the room and stared at me. I called him but he didn't respond to me. I understood that he completely lost seeing me in a sari. After sometime he came into his senses and went out of the room saying me to come down after getting ready. I got ready and went to him. While walking to the car, Jay stopped me and came near to me. My heart started beating fast because I can sense his love in his eyes.

"Do you really hate that much to stay at home all the time?"

I looked at him and nodded.

"You can go anywhere you want but on one condition."

"I shouldn't meet my father, right?"

"You are very smart girl. You are right. Do whatever you want and live as you were at your maternal home. I don't want this marriage to bring any difference in your way of living," Jay said.

"Shall I ask you one thing?"

"Yes, you can."

"I want to do a job. Can you appoint me as your personal secretary?"

"What?" Jay said, shocking at my unexpected proposal.

"If you don't like it, then I will try for another job."

"No, No. Actually I thought to ask you the same. But I thought you may not agree or feel otherwise so I didn't ask you."

"I really like to work with you," I said.

Only then I can know what you are. A person can act for a while but not all the time. Let me see what you are truly.

"Hello, madam. Where were you thinking? Come on, let's go," Jay said.

Jay took me to an orphanage run by him. I liked the place very much. Jay and I took the blessings from the Mother who is the administrator of the orphanage.

"This orphanage is found by my mom. She loves the kids and this place is her favorite," Jay said.

"I love this place very much. These kids are very innocent and their smile is beautiful. I just love this place, Neel," I said. Wantedly I said Neel instead of Jay to see his reaction.

"I am sorry, Jay."

Jay didn't react to my words as if he didn't notice but he noticed me saying Neel.

"Can I play with those kids?"

"Permission is not necessary. You can do anything you want except one thing and you know what's that."

I went to kids and played with them. One of those kids sat on my lap and I loved listening to their cute stories and complaints. I enjoyed a lot and I didn't even notice that it has been two hours that I am with them until Jay came to me.

"Vidya, Shall we go? It's getting late," Jay said.

I nodded. One of those kids gestured Jay to sit and he sat down as the kid wanted to talk to him.

"Brother, she is so good like mom, you and Suhana sister. Who is she?" the kid asked and Jay looked at him as if he didn't understand what to say.

"If Jay is your brother, then I am your sister in law," I said.

Jay looked at me shockingly.

"Are you Jay's wife?" the kid said again.

"Yes," I said and then we started from there. On the way, I noticed Jay in deep thinking.

"I am sorry. I know you don't like me introducing myself as your wife to them. But we can't explain our relationship better than that to those kids. As long as I stay with you, it's necessary for us to behave as a couple before others," I said, hiding the left love for him.

"Not an issue," Jay said.

Jay:

I love you, Vidya. But I can't say that to you. I don't know the reason for feeling this way for you in a short time. I feel a strong unknown bond between us. Is it because of my loneliness or because I married you? I don't know exactly.

But I love you truly. I know you love Neel and our relationship is temporary. Still my heart hopes you to be with me forever.

I came out of my thoughts with Vidya’s question.

"Where are we going now?"

"Anywhere you wish," I said.

"I want to see the park near by our home. So that I can go alone if I feel bore anytime," Vidya said.

We went to the park. While enjoying the cool breeze, Vidya started looking for something.

"Do you want anything?" I said.

"Ice-cream," Vidya said, making me smile.

"I couldn't find any ice cream vendor here in this park," Vidya said.

"Here there is no ice cream parlour. But there's one near by. You can have it on the way to our home," I said.

"No, I want it now," Vidya said stubbornly.

"From where should I get it for you now?" I said seriously frustrated with her childishness.

Vidya turned another side and stayed calm. I noticed her being upset.

"Vidya, look at me," I said.

Vidya didn't see me.

"Ok, I will bring the ice-cream for you," I said and she smiled.

"Keep smiling like that all the time. Don't go anywhere. Sit here. I will come soon," I said.

I went and came back with the ice cream. I couldn't find Vidya there. I searched for her but didn't see her anywhere. Did she leave me? Did she send me for the ice-cream to escape from me? I fell on my knees with tears as I miss her.

Why did you do this, Vidya? I didn't expect this from you. I didn't know why but I feel as if I will die without you. I love you.

I heard the sound of anklets and looked up. Vidya came there and I ran to her. I hugged her with tears.

"Jay, are you ok? What happened to you?"

"Where did you go and why? I told you to sit here. Why did you move from here?" I shouted at her.

"Listen to me first," Vidya said.

"Nothing is there to listen anymore. We are going to home right now," I said.

I caught her hand tight and dragged her to the car.

"Leave me," Vidya said seriously.

I left her hand and Vidya caught my hand. She took me to a place and there, candles were arranged on the sand. I looked at it and got surprised as it's written "Happy Birthday, Jay". I looked at Vidya.

"Happy birthday, Jay."

"Thank you. But how do you know about my birthday?"

"I saw your profile on Google in the morning. Please, cut the cake."

"I don't want to celebrate my birthday," I said, remembering my family for whom my birthday is a grand festival.

"I want to celebrate it, please," Vidya said.

I smiled and cut the cake. I fed the cake to her.

"Did you send me for the ice-cream to make these arrangements?"

"Yes," Vidya said.

After the celebrations, we chitchatted for sometime and left to our home. Vidya prepared my favorite food and served me. I was totally confused with her behaviour but I didn't ask her anything.
