OUR FIRST KISS

Preetam PoV:

I stayed silent without saying anything. The sound of the leaves that swing in rhythm with the cold wind disturbed the silence. Roopa stood silently making it difficult for me to understand the flowing thoughts in her mind. Did I hurt her with my rudeness? Every child who loves her parents gets angry hearing someone accusing them. Roopa has the right to be furious at me for slipping my tongue about her father.

Suddenly, Roopa turned me towards her and placed her lips on mine giving me a shock. The kiss was divine, and I closed my eyes, feeling the ecstasy created by her sudden yet pleasant gesture. Why did she kiss me? Is it to cool my anger or to express her feelings for me? I don't think Roopa kissed me to take away my irritation, because this is our first kiss and my heartfelt her love while experiencing her kiss. Am I over expecting or is it true?

She left me and looked into my eyes. I had lost in her kiss and didn't speak anything.

"No girl can kiss a person without love, Preetam. I think this is enough to clear all your doubts," Roopa said with tears and went inside the room.

Tears? Her tears stab my heart. I can bear anything except seeing water drops in her beautiful eyes.

I didn't mean to hurt her. But, wait, What did she say before leaving from here? She kissed me and said something. Does it mean that she loves me? I can't believe this. Of course, this is more than enough to clear all my stupid doubts about her and her love. She loves me. Wow! So, she loves me as her husband. She didn't marry me with her parent's force. She married me heartfully. I can't say how happy I am to know that my wife loves me.

I rushed to our room as I wanted to embrace her into my arms as a reply to her proposal. Roopa was not there in our room? I think she might be there in the spare bedroom as she was hurt or angry with me. I knocked on the door of her room. Roopa opened the door and glimpsed at me quietly.

"Roopa!" I tried to start the conversation but failed.

"I am sorry, I didn't mean it," Roopa said before I speak.

"That's okay," I said with a naughty smile and took a step closer to Roopa.

"I never meant to hurt you," Roopa said again, trying to make her feelings clear with her unclear words.

"Yes, I know," I said cupping her face. Her cheeks were so soft as fur, and she resembled a baby with her teary face. Her nose changed into red colour and tone into choked one.

"I don't love anyone except you," Roopa confessed again.

"I know that," I said with a smile as her confession is so sweet and cute like her.

"I didn't elope as everyone thought," Roopa said.

I am right, and that note was fake.

"I guessed it right," I said, looking deep into her eyes.

"Then, why were you angry with me?" Roopa asked.

I didn't answer her and pushed her a bit to go inside the room. I locked the door. I cupped her face again and kissed her beautiful soft lips which were sweet like cherries. Roopa tried to break the kiss being angry at me, but I didn't leave her. I enjoyed the taste of her lips thoroughly, and she too gave up responding to me. Finally, we broke the kiss after getting enough of each other.

"Did you understand how much you mean to me and how much my heart loves you?" I asked, and she blushed.

"Sorry Roopa, I never say anything to your dad or your family again. Sorry, are you still angry at me?" I asked.

"No, not at all," Roopa said, encircling her arms around my neck.

"Shall we go to our room?" I asked, and seeing her smile; I lifted her in my arms. I brought her to our room.

"Preetam, I never loved anyone. The note I wrote was different from the one you read. I don't know who changed the note. Everyone but you believed that note, and not me. After seeing your trust and love for me, I thought to share my feelings with you. I accepted you, and this marriage heartfully. If it's ok with you to allow me to stay as your wife, without knowing the reason behind me going away from you for six months, I will stay here. Otherwise, I won't trouble you," Roopa said, glancing at the floor as if she was nervous.

"It's okay, Roopa. You can stay here as my wife. Tell me the reason, whenever you want. You loved me and accepted this marriage. I am happy to know that. Until you are comfortable with this new relationship, I won't trouble you to go further in this relationship. Let's understand each other first, and then we can completely become one," I said to her, kissing her both hands.

"Thank you, Preetam," Roopa said with a bright smile.

"Roopa, give a copy of your MBA certificate to me. Tomorrow, you can join our company," I said to her after some time.

"Is the certificate necessary?" She asked thoughtfully.

What's her problem to submit the certificate? It's just a formal norm followed by every Multi National Company.

"Of course!" I said casually.

"Then, give me a job based on my graduation certificate," she said.

"Ok, but why not MBA certificate?" I asked her, though I know she is full of secrets.

"My certificate is with my friend," Roopa said.

I think she was hiding something from me. I chose to act as if I trust her words. Because I want her to be comfortable with me first, then slowly I will know the truth through pampering her than being angry at her. Sometimes love and pampering work far better than any other ways.

"Ok, I think we should sleep now," I said and moved towards the couch to sleep.

"Preetam, why are you sleeping on the couch? I mean it's uncomfortable to you," Roopa said, seeing me sleeping on the couch.

"Because if I sleep there, you may feel uncomfortable. I choose to make myself uncomfortable, then making you feel it," I said genuinely.

"It is not a problem. You are my husband; I won't feel the other way with you. Also, I want you to feel comfortable," Roopa said.

Finally, we both shared the same bed. But, sleep is far away from me. I can't shut the thoughts of my mind about Roopa's secrets, her behaviour, and her lies. Why is she not trusting me? I am not mistreating her. I accepted her as she is. Still, she is not ready to believe me, but indirectly she said she loves me. The moment she advanced to kiss me, I felt as if I am out of my breath. Such a great feeling it was!

I turned towards her. She slept peacefully. The moonlight from the window fell on her face, making her look beautiful in my eyes. Mum and dad didn't like her from the beginning. They wanted me to get married to their family friend's daughter who is beautiful and stylish. By the way beautiful to their eyes not to my eyes.

Roopa was a middle-class girl. Her dad worked in a textile shop as a salesman. Her brother was a clerk in a bank. Roopa completed her study through scholarship and working part-time. My parents thought Roopa was not suitable for our status. They expected dowry from her, but I strictly told them that I didn't want any dowry. So, they dropped their idea. My parents didn't like her from the beginning, but when she left, they started hating her the more.

My elder sister Avantika convinced my parents about my marriage with Roopa. Even now my sister supports me. I told her about Roopa's arrival. She said that till Roopa moves freely with me, she will stop my parents to return the home by taking them on a pilgrimage. If they arrived, I was sure they would hurt her. I should plan something to stop them from troubling her.

What if she leaves again if they hurt her? Or what if they force her to go away from the house? They may ill-treat her for insulting them before everyone by leaving home for marriage night. My dad told me that they are seeing a match for me as she disappeared. Now she is back, so they may hurt her for ruining their plan of getting me married to the girl they like.

I should save her from their harsh words and torture. I could ask her to stay at our guest house, but she may get hurt because she is my wife and had every right to stay here at our home. However, that's the only way left to save her from their anger. I should convince her without hurting her. Though it's the worst idea, I couldn't do anything else.
