Chapter 2
Setting off for a brand-new day, Evelyn drove towards the hillside and found herself in the midst of the people who lives around there. Plodding around the mountains around, she took pictures of the beautiful scenery her eyes got attracted to, not forgetting to obtain the information regarding the reasons why she got here. Evelyn was going to spend the weekend over here precisely, gathering of evidence wasn't a one-day stuff and the warm gestures from the folks here gave her delights. It was getting darker, and she needed to leave the mountain foot either way because some people believes a beast creeps out of there and haunt whosoever is found at its foot. Evelyn was agitated to see what possibly would be on the mountain that freaks someone out. Laying ambush to await whatever was going to burst out at her, Evelyn set her camera on record, she was the only one at this place and was determined to expose the root cause of citizens disappearance. She lie low behind a rock that acted as a shield, but her plans were abortive as she found nothing, yet she wasn't willing to leave the mountain. Evelyn brought out a burger and juice which she carried along and munched on it when someone suddenly tapped her on the shoulder, she shuddered and almost stumbled from where she sat. It was just a child who was hunting for his rabbit, guess she isn't that brave as she claims to be.
"Goodness child, what are you doing here?" She questioned while veering at him.
"Rabbit" the boy replied, showing her a sling.
"Come on boy, go back home" Evelyn beckoned. The child was reluctant and ran deeper into the mountains. She scoffed and ran after him, watching guard at what might befall them. The moon had set only that it shows half part of its glowing face, nonetheless it still shone brightly that one definitely doesn't need a light to find it's part except for some part of this mountain that was covered with thick leaves.
"Slow down!" She snapped as the child giggled towards where he probably thinks his rabbit had run off to. The child suddenly stop in his movement when he got towards a cave, he turned slightly at Evelyn who was almost exhausted from the chase.
"Could spark have gone there?" He asked frighten. How the heck was she supposed to know that? Evelyn smirked at him as she switched on her torchlight, she came here prepared anyways.
"I will look over, just go back home okay" Evelyn assured.
"I can't, what if I get eaten on my way or abducted?" The boy asked as Evelyn gnashed her teeth.
"What's this place?"
"It's sacred, no one goes in and come back alive" the boy expressed gesticulating in the air.
"That's fetish, it's the 21st century boy wade off such thoughts okay… it's just a cave. Let me walk you home"
"No! I must find spark, and you said you would look over, so check it out" the boy petitioned and Evelyn inhaled deeply. This child has to return; however, he was adamant in coming along.
"Alright, stay side by side with me and don't yank at any weird thing you see, okay?". The boy nodded and held tight to her hand, while his left hand held his sling. As for Evelyn, she had pepper spray and taser in her hand while placing the large torch on her head just like the miners. The two walked deeper into the cave, mute only that their footsteps could be heard.
"There she is" the child said exclaimed, running towards where the rabbit stood.
"Oh, I miss you!" He furthered hugging the rabbit and when he beckoned on Evelyn to come closer, she was gone.
"Hello? Miss?" He called out to her and wasn't receiving a reply. Fear lurked in on him, and he ran out of the cave, heading home to pass the message that yet another life was lost on the mountain. Evelyn had fallen slightly on the steep path and this part of the cave was soundproof, so one couldn't hear when the other was calling.
"Damn! Is that child safe?" She lamented prowling her steps in the dark, her torchlight was blinking because it hit had against the wall during the slide.
"Where am I?" She thought attempting to take a clearer view of where she stood. From a distance, an Aurora light was glowing and dancing magically that it drew her attention, while reaching out her hand to touch the beautiful rare of light, an earthquake erupt followed by an earsplitting hum. Evelyn leaned on the wall to fend off herself from floating through the emptiness of this space as her surrounding was totally darkness and where she stood was a narrow pathway that only a foot can pass through slowly. Evelyn cleverly trod through the path and found herself behind a pond which illuminated aurora lights, this must be what she definitely saw that brought out ray from the other side of the cave. She took pictures of this water that emitted turquoise blue sparks over her face.
"Wow, not that bad" she complimented while stooping low to feel the refreshing water, she found a marble necklace beside the pool and picked it up, this necklace was expensive and mesmerizing probably this cave had gifted her such. Just as she was about to touch the beautiful water, she heard loud noise coming from outside and footsteps running which stomped against the earth. Evelyn glanced at the water which still glowed elegantly and brightly, her stomach sank the moment she noted that the loud noise drew closer, there was absolutely no place to hide except inside this strange pond. Two things rang in her memory, either she waits to see the approaching danger or dive into the pool and dies. She suddenly saw the water pulling and crashing like a massive wave in the ocean. Evelyn switched on the taser in her hand while holding on to the pepper spray, not forgetting the tear gas in her back bag. Instinctively, she tied her nose with a hankie and stormed outside. To her surprise, there was no being around, perhaps she was extremely disorientated from the weird phenomenon that occurred.
"We couldn't find him" a deep voice echoed from where Evelyn was unable to figure out.
"He must have crossed the thin sheet that separates us from the humans" another interjected with a meek voice, that definitely belongs to a woman. Without wasting time, she attempted in recording what she heard.
"We've got to return before it gets too late" the former suggested, and a quake began again much louder than the former she experienced. There was a sudden silence as Evelyn predicts those beings certainly had sensed someone was around because the latter had said
"There's an intruder".
Evenly made out to run away from this cave before her life comes to ruins. Every path she roams got her puzzled and wrecked out. Turning on her phone light, evenly saw through the misty haze two massive shadows approaching her, which worked to frighten her even more witless, and she switched off the light immediately to avoid being signified by them. Her heart pounced wildly that anyone close by could hear it's beat as she was petrified. Evelyn intended to make a call but just as in the mountains, there was no network. It was awkward that such a thing happens in America, which had one of the fastest technologies and networking. Only this part wasn't connecting, she tugged back the phone in her pant pocket with a heavy heart as she prayed to be safe on the other side.
"Catch you!" A voice roared and Evelyn let out a scream while pouring out the pepper spray like rain around her and turned directions away from that place. The former intended to chase after her, but the latter held him back.
"She would be useful"
The devastated lady found herself outside the cave running as fast as she could urge by fear, she didn't care where she was steering to. Accidentally, she fell down and took a slow deep breath to muster up courage while pushing herself on her feet. It was some inches close to the town when a kind of force pulled her back. Evelyn struggled against it, kicking her feet in the vast air. This attraction like a magnet suddenly stopped when the marble slide of her bag. Evelyn heaved hard and took it from the ground as it was glowing under the moonlight, she wasn't cautious of where she was standing and moved back rapidly which lead to her falling endlessly as the word around her spun while letting out a loud shout for help. Tears brewed in her eyes as she landed on the cold hard ground, she felt pain coursing throughout her body as her breath fanned the dried moist grasses which looked like the carpets for the ground of this mountain. Her eyes were dimmed and body stiffen to the ground, she was covered in her own pool of blood as the only thing she saw before giving up the ghost was two pairs of boots trudging close to her.
