Chapter 3
It was no puzzling news any longer for the loss of a soul on this mountain, it had been banned by the government from human surveillance till actions would be carried out. Felix stood at the entrance of the mountain with his rabbit in his arms, he had informed the town of the stranger who lost her way in this mountain, and they got to figure out she was an important personnel in the country which stir up actions in the government of the states. Max had gotten informed of the agonized disclosure of Evelyn's death and rushed down to the place along with Mrs Anna, her mother. They weren't allowed to the scene of where her death was assumed to have taken place besides, there were barricades blocking every path leading to the mountains topped with a strict restriction policy. Mrs Anna was completely broke as she sober for Evelyn while max consoled her sullen in his looks. Oliver didn't miss the chance of showing up at this place, he was disheartened too because she was the closet to him at the office, although they turn out to be fighting most often but the friendship remains.
The sound of a rumbling engine could be heard. A ray of light that fought it way through a tiny hole glittered in this dark void. Evelyn spur, her eyes opened as her mind was as empty as the vastness of a black hole. She drafted her eyes around while noticing that she was covered in darkness only for the little ray that reflected on her fingers. Evelyn searched her brain for a moment speculating where she definitely was, it could be either hell or heaven. Jerking up and straining her eyes to see clearly, Evelyn observed that this part of the world she was now, was a room that might be kept for a hostage. Did she survive the fall? The injury sustained seemed to be bandaged and the sprain she felt wasn't there any longer too. Who had rescued her? Questions kept surging in her head and she groaned because it caused a throbbing ache. There was no miracle about it that there was a way out here because she couldn't identify a thing neither was the ray that useful as it only pointed a part of the room yet, wouldn't yield to the circumstances. Evelyn climbed out from what she presumed to be a bed and ambled through the floor which was smooth on the feet, she trailed her hands everywhere and finally felt a wall. Totally acting as a blind being, her hands touched the knob of a door searching for a lock or anything that could open the way out of this creepy place, sadly there was nothing. Evelyn banged on the door loudly screaming for help, and it seems her efforts paid off because footsteps strided close to the door. Her legs were weary and heavy that it almost made her fall to the ground, but she placed her hands on the wall as a support. The door knob turned and once more, her strained eyes peered at the door and a shadow loomed over her. She was startled as only its brown eyes peeked at her, it made her feel she was in a play, particularly that of Beauty and the Beast. She wasn't a fan of animation and snapped out that, though. This being slammed the door which made her move back, slowly folding her fist in defense. Couldn't the lights come on? So, she could signify who this being was. As though it read her mind, he switched on the lights, and she heaved a sigh. It was a human, what a relief, here she was thinking a beast had locked her up. Raising a brow at this handsome being whom she assumed to safe her life, she realized he had a stern look and in a dark outfit. Evelyn became speechless as this man kept proceeding closer to her.
"Excuse? Uhmm can I make a phone call?" She requested, not sure why that was the first thing to do. The strange man didn't respond as he paced pass her towards a drawer beside the bed she found herself on. Evelyn rubbed her palms waiting for the unexpected, perhaps, this perfect description of a beautiful man was dumb. How sympathetic he must be, but that wouldn't stop Evelyn from appreciating his kind gesture of saving her life. At least she wasn't dead, and home sweet home she comes. Her though was eluded when he suddenly ditched a file on her hand and a pen too. She was dumbfounded to what was actually happening before her. His eyes which a damp look and it had a kind of spark that was tempting as Evelyn couldn't help but stare.
"Sign" he ordered in a deep husky voice which she finds appealing, although what was he stamping on?
"Excuse me? But what's going on here?" She asked, breathing heavily as her legs had sprain from the fall earlier on the mountain and the pain was killing. The stranger walked towards a cushion backing the window that could fit for a door and swipe the curtain aside and the morning sunshine rested on his face. He turned slightly towards her, which made her stomach twitch.
"Do it and don't ask questions" he beckoned, scanning her appearance. Evelyn threw the file to the ground and said;
"Look stranger, I'm not in for games, what do you want from me…" She paused and mused.
"Now I get it, money, great! Just hand me a phone and straight away your wish would be granted" she rapped leaping towards the door, but it got locked automatically.
"You're staying here either you sign or die"
Evelyn swallowed hard, why was this man who looked like a fallen angel acting like the devil itself. Perhaps she might be in hell or second heaven.
"Choose!" He roared, and she shuddered in fear, confused. Evelyn was in a chaotic state wanting to understand the scene presently because it was all confusing. She tried not to show just how terrified she was and riled up.
"I'm not scared of you! Let me go before you regret ever holding me hostage"
"Fine then" he responded, cracking a gun which had been with him all this time, and she failed to notice. Before she could say a word, he shot at her, but she was quick to dodge by falling low to the ground. Tears had covered her face as any more move, this beast of a man would be shot at her.
"I will sign" she yields in and with shaky hand-picked up the file to sign. Evelyn attempt to read it but couldn't as her tears had covered her vision, the only thing she could see clearly was the line that indicated one's signature, and she signed while thrusting back the file to the man's broad chest.
"What now? Don't think you got the better of me with that gun" she vaunted in between her teeth like a heroine vowed to defend the city from a foe. The man glared at her and went to the door, and he concluded
"You're staying here for half a year"
Evelyn widened her eyes as she leapt towards him, but he slammed it right before her face.
"Hey!" She yelled bunging the knob hard, what was more perplexing was that there was no one she could call out to neither was she able to fathom for what he meant half a month.
"Argh!!!". Evelyn got frustrated from all her endeavors in wanting to break out. Window! The thought of it gave her goosebumps, she leaped to the window and glanced at the height, from her assertion, this could be a mansion and jumping off might be risky except if she tries tailing down through a rope. Evelyn made use of the bedspread as she twisted it into the shape of a rope, and she tolled it down the walls though, it was thwarted, and she growled while holding back her tears that fought their way out. Why was she locked up? Could be a victim of human trafficking, perhaps this man wanted her to work as a prostitute. Evelyn stood mute to experience a sharp pang over her legs, treading her legs to the window, she saw that below was a large garden and the rumbling of engines kept constituting noise in this environment. The scenery from where she stood was beautiful like a landscape drawing because she could see the hills beside the mountains covered in greens and tree. It felt near, but it was definitely going to be a 3 hour drive if heading over there.
"The mountains" she uttered while straighten her face to guesstimates the mountain if it could be a resemblance to the one she had fallen from. Howbeit, the answer didn't clock her head as Evelyn hopes to make it out of here in spite having no clue on how. A strand of tear dropped from her eyes and fell to her feet, Evelyn hauled down her eyes at the same time receding from the window.
