Chapter 4
Kevin stepped onto the stage, facing a better view of everyone, the press, and their cameras, expecting something from him that they could squeeze out of his mouth and turn into the news.
“Good morning, everyone, thank you so much for having me here,” he bowed down and everyone clapped their hands, and he took a seat. He took a deep breath and finally relaxed his stance, waiting for a question to pop up from the press.
A hand was raised, and he raised his chin, signaling to the person to have his presence be known.
“This entertainment company, ENT, has been around for around a decade having its big bosses be changed for a few years, but still is yet to create a huge impact in the entertainment industry. What do you think that you can do as the big boss in order for this company to not fall under like the others?”
Kevin heaved a sigh and smiled at the question that was thrown at him. It was heavy, but he needed to be calm and just answer it. He knows it more than anyone as the boss.
“This company has been around for a decade, I know, and I have seen that the products that this entity has been making are focusing solely on trends and are behind it all the time. That is what I am intending to do as the new boss of the company; to have a new taste wherein the others will follow and have a chance to be number one.”
“That is a big statement that you just gave, and very idealistic,” the same reporter retorted the answer to Kevin, seemingly dissatisfied with him. “Can you elaborate for us on what are you doing to do to be that number one despite the inescapable situation that your company is facing at the moment?”
Bethany was listening closely to what is the reporter is saying and she twitched an eyebrow while looking at the face of the man that she wanted to approach and slap across the face. That was the same man that kept on agreeing and making her former boss’ name be fragrant while the company is doing the opposite of being stable at the time.
He must have been here to embarrass Kevin in front of the public and be on his former boss’ side.
Kevin, on the other hand, only chuckled at what he said and calmly approached the microphone in front of him. “Of course, I cannot reveal what I am going to do. It is a matter of talks that I will be doing closed doors with the board and my employees.”
The reporter was visibly fuming from his answer but immediately kept his composure and went back to his seat. Bethany smirked at the man when he was not looking anymore.
The media in this industry of theirs are too biased and seemed like every move they make is more important than more pressing matters.
Another hand was raised, and Kevin recognized the question, and he answered it accordingly. The whole interview lasted for about fifteen minutes conversing with different press representatives that it got Bethany to yawn and started to stretch her legs, walking around. When she turned, she then saw Amy waving at her subtly and squeezing herself among the crowd until she reached her side, poking at her waist.
“You never told me that your high school crush is your boss,” she teased her, and it made Bethany come up with an embarrassed expression, putting a finger on her mouth, signaling her to be quiet.
“No one should know about that, please,” she said to her, immediately having her energy back. “Besides, he has a girlfriend anyway… a fiancée, even.”
“Wow, that is shocking,” she replied and looked at the figure of Kevin still busy and focused on answering the questions. “I mean, who would even resist that charm of his, right?”
Bethany flashed a glare at her friend, knowing what she said was with a hint of teasing once again. She then shook her head and had her hand lightly covering her face from the embarrassment of the friend.
“So, what kind of girlfriend does he even have?” Amy composed herself and stopped laughing. “Is she any good or the kind of you don’t want to work with?”
Bethany shrugged her shoulders, not wanting to even remember what happened earlier, the fake smiles and her presence. “Let’s just say that she is not my favorite person as far as the new people in this office are concerned.”
Amy’s lips frowned and she shook her head, looking up at the new boss. “Well, he is surely wasted on a woman like that.”
Both of them just chuckled dryly and continued listening to the interview, wanting him to already finish so that they could already resume their daily work. Another hand was raised that was recognized by Kevin and it was a man from a top press. Bethany flashed the man a curious look, asking the question in her mind as to why they are even here, with a lower-tier company.
She leaned on her friend, whispering to her. “What are they doing here?”
“That is what I am thinking too,” Amy answered Bethany, both of them now flashing curious looks at each other and looking at the man on stage. “Do you think that Kevin has done something in the past that they want to bring up?”
“I don’t think –” her answer was cut off by the man that started to talk, leaving Kevin with his eyes wide open and stunned at what he just asked.
“You said that you are going to make a difference in the industry, but how can you do that when you can’t even make it as an upcoming artist before?”
“Huh?” Kevin answered him back with a question, wondering what was happening. “What are you talking about?”
“It is true, right? That you were a part of a group before and almost debuted with them, but then you had an injury that made your attitude… a little unstable for them to happen and was forced to kick you out of that group. You were that person, right?”
Kevin was stunned in silence and only looked at the anticipating crowd for his answer. The murmurs of the people started to get loud, and his vision started to get blurry. He tried to play it off with a chuckle, but it seemed that there was nothing that he could do anymore to answer it as gracefully as the other questions thrown at him.
Kevin was about to open his mouth when one of his board directors came into the center of the stage in front of him and looked at the crowd, extending his hand to them.
“There are no more questions to answer from Mr. Williams. That is all for today’s introduction ceremony, thank you so much for attending.”
He was helped by security and escorted out of the stage and into the exit, towards the meeting room. Before he could even walk out of the place completely filled with the noises of the media shooting their questions, he took one last glance at the person that asked the question and he saw him flashing a smile as if his task was already completed.
How hard his world truly is, he thought to himself before getting himself exited outside.
