Chapter 5 LITTLE WINGED CREATURES

The day seemed too short for Darius and Mystica.

Their strength was drained. They both felt exhausted yet they hadn't managed to leave the huge tree.

The trails they followed only brought them back from where they started. They had tried the three trails facing towards the different direction hoping that one of those would bring them to Mystica's home but their efforts went in vain.

They seemed to be chasing with tails over and over again until the sun had finally set. Now the surroundings had darkened and their stomach was growling in hunger.

Clutching her stomach, Mystica sighed exhaustedly and murmured in a low voice. "I'm starving."

"I don't understand." Darius huffed in annoyance. He too was obviously exhausted from their long walk thus he slumped flatly on the ground to relax his nerves. "Why couldn't we go back? We tried to follow the trails but we kept on coming back to this place."

"There's really something strange about this forest…" Mystica muttered softly in retort. She took the other space between the huge roots, enduring her hunger and leaned lazily on it as she continued. "I need to rest…" she added whilst closing her wary eyes.

Darius darted his hardened gaze to her direction just right a few steps from him. Somehow, seeing the woman looking too tired, his gaze softened. He was about to open his mouth to call and remind her that they had to find something to eat before they went to sleep but it suddenly dawned on him that he didn't know her name yet therefore he could only call her using such a name.

"Hey, woman…" he uttered curtly.

"Hmmm…" out of the blue, she replied with a soft moan.

Darius felt his pupils dilated for some odd reason. Her soft moan seemed to break something within him. His nerves which he hadn't felt their existence were now raging together with an inexplicable amount of heat surging through his entirety. His private part had woken up and it was making him uncomfortable under his pants.

"Damn it!" He cursed under his breath as he focused to control his ragged breathing.

This was the first time that he felt such a kind of feeling. Even if he wasn't briefed about it, he was certain that he knew why he was suffering with this rare kind of feeling. It only means one thing, he wanted to mate.

"Damn you Darius Cage!" He scolded himself as he abruptly stood up, walking a little far from the woman's position as he went on, babbling furiously. "You're out of control! Why now? Why this woman? There's nothing special about her. She's a mere human. The lowest type of creature in Mystical Realm. You deserve the best and that wasn't her!"

Instead of going back, he let himself stroll around to cool down by walking ahead from tree to tree… As he reached the third small trunk, he accidentally looked up above his head. He couldn't explain the joy that blooms on his face as something hanging from the branches caught his attention.

"I'm not hallucinating, aren't I? Are those ripe mangoes?" He chuckled in surprise.

Without wasting so much time, he began stretching out his arm, bending the branches one by one. Just to make sure that his sight wasn't playing tricks on him, he harvested a few ripe fruits which were enough to occupy his hands before he let go of the tree branch.

Smelling one of the fruit in his hand, his mouth watered. "I haven't had the chance to appreciate you until now. You look really tempting…" Darius grumbled as he took a huge bite of it. "Your sweetness was enough to comfort me…" he added in satisfaction.

After having enough, he was surprised that he was back to his usual calmness. The inexplicable heat swirling within him was gone and he felt better compared to earlier. Now, he can sustain walking around for a few hours if he wanted to but he can't just leave the woman alone for so long. He had to watch over her while resting even if he didn't want to…

Darius took a handful of those ripe fruits again for the woman before he went back to the huge tree.

Along the way, he spotted a lot of fireflies which were common to him but in fact, it was all pixies in a closer look. They seemed to light his way back as he imagined them flying, guiding his trail. This rare opportunity he witnessed made him feel secretly amazed deep inside. Then the woman's words suddenly popped into his head…

"There's really something strange in this forest…"

"You are right. I admit that there's indeed something really strange about this forest…" he murmured in agreement as he stepped closer towards the huge tree.

His head was hanging low as his gaze was focused on his steps, careful enough not to stumble in the grass. It didn't take long before he realized that he had reached his previous position as he spotted a little foot shape, marked along the grass which obviously belonged to the woman when she stomped her foot earlier. He shook his head in amusement seeing those footprints as he continued to walk.

Surprisingly, he looked up after a few more steps and his eyes glowed in so much awe…

"Woman, who are you?" He murmured under his breath as he watched the peculiar scene from a distance.
