Chapter 7

King Alixandre had spent the entire day drinking away his troubles, in the company of Lancelot, who had gotten miserably drunk, that he couldn't tell his arms apart from his feet.

"You always was such a lightweight, however will we make it back to your quarters?" Alixandre asked in a teasing, grazing his thumb gently across the man's empty cup of liquor.

Lancelot raised his head from the table to say something, but ended up hiccuping non-stop, and passed out cold on his armour.

The woman in their company swayed her head from side to side in disapproval and rushed over to him, tossing his arm across her shoulders, helping the man onto his feet.

"If you know you can't keep up, why bother to drink so much?" She muttered under her breath, gritting her teeth, at the repugnant scent of a drunk man.

"He's always hated to lose, you must know by now how headstrong your brother can be." Remarked the king in a casual tone, rising from his position.  He walked towards the struggling woman and took the wasted man off her shoulders, balancing him perfectly due to the slight variation in their height.

"I'll take it from here Lena, go rinse off the scene of alcohol in the meantime." Alixandre spoke in a light hearted manner, turning to take his leave.

"Please, don't indulge his drunken fantasies this time your majesty, he can be very imposing when drunk and doesn't think before making a request." She took a pause and pulled her younger brother by the left ear.

"Do not do anything to his majesty that you may regret when you're sober." Lena sternly warned, then narrowed her eyes at him,  stepping aside to allow the duo take their leave.

Alixandre was already used to having to be the one to escort his head of army back to his quarters whenever they had a drinking session.

One time Lancelot had gotten quite drunk and was left alone, the man ended up wandering into the maid's bathhouse and jumped into a bath which had four, naked maids already inside it.

The king chuckled softly at the memory of Lena having her brother kneel under the sun on hot stones, while he received a hundred times how he would give up drinking.

"Get sobered up already." He growled in a menacing tone, as they drew nearer to his quarters, which was a good distance from the main palace.

However, the king was stopped in his tracks by two high ranked mages he had hired to monitor the protect barrier he had set up around his castle.

"Forgive me Sire, but we can sense an unknown power trying to breach through the barrier you set up. We fear it might be the enemy." One of them hastily informed him, miserably out of breath.

'Impossible, Damaris would have informed me beforehand if it was someone from Crimsoncreed. Something doesn't seem quite right here.' the king critically thought, being extra cautious.

"Here, take him back to his quarters, then ensure that the highest tower is fortified with the most impenetrable defense. If anything so much as scratches the person inside..." He took a pause as his bloody red eyes shifted into a tinted yellow.

"I'll rip out your hearts." He threatened, striking fear into their hearts.

The mages swiftly took the man off the king's hands, avoiding direct eye contact with him, scared to strike a nerve and get sliced by his sharp nails.

Alixandre wasted no time to reach the scene, and even from afar could sense something being thrown repeatedly at his barrier, a very unique energy was brutally attacking the barrier.

"Could it actually be troops from Valencia?" The king mumbled under his breath, stealing a glance at the tall tower for only a second.

His guards had already positioned themselves, with Lena standing in front, brandishing her sharp sword ready to cut through whoever would charge in.

"Don't bother, their energy might be unique, but it's still not enough to break one tenth of the barrier. They'll soon run of stamina and give up." Alixandre declared in a loud voice, halting his troops from making any advances towards the enemy.

Lena jogged over to him and bowed in respect, a formality she never forgot to see through, despite being two years older than the king.

"Who dares to attack his majesty's fortress at night?" Lena questioned in a rash manner, venom filled in her words.

"Rest assured, whoever it is, is of no threat to us." He confidently told her, his yellow tinted eyes still on full display.

Just as Lena was about to ask about the situation inside the palace, the assault on the barrier suddenly stopped, setting everyone on edge.

"It's stopped, but so quickly." The woman noted in a suspicious tone, returning her sword back into it's casing.

"Why would they attack without the proper attack forces?"

The king knitted his brows against each other, then lifted his eyelids in an abrupt realization. "Unless they weren't attacking but causing a diversion." He said under his breath, connecting all the dots, a panicked look on his face.

"Elena!" The king cried out in a sense of urgency, realizing he had been too lax. And without wasting a second's breath, he spread out his massive black, bat like wings, taking flight towards the isolated tower, his eyes void of any emotions.

Elena had spent the entire day in the company of Jareth and Jairo, which meant she had been subjected to a round of uncontrollable bickering. Which was why she felt extremely fortunate to be back at the tower, where she could be alone and get some rest.

"This place really is built to cage someone in, there are only two main exits." She lamented, sitting on the chair that had slowly started to hurt her lower back.

Elena gazed at the clean sheets and contemplated the idea of taking a rest on the soft looking bed, her heavy eyelids flickered uncontrollably.

"I can't take it! I'm already captured and living here, what difference could sleeping on this bed make?" She argued, even though there was no one around for her to even justify her actions to.

She stood up abruptly and made for the bed, tired of having to suffer during her kidnapping.

But, as soon as she made a move to sit on the bed, she heard a loud banging sound coming from the bedroom door.

At first, Elena thought it could just be the butlers, arguing over something, but when the banging got more violent, she stiffened.

"Whose there?" The princess asked, taking some steps back, as the intruder furiously assaulted the handle of the door, taking turns between banging and trying to pry the door open.

Click

The door bursted wide opened wide, Elena screamed with both her palms covering her ears, as a pair of violent feet hurriedly approached her!

The princess tightly clenched her eyelids shut, unprepared for the worse possible outcome. Death.

However, a huge gush of icy cold wind suddenly flew into the room, the panicked princess felt her heart leap out of her chest, as she felt a shadow casted over her sides. Along with the shadow, she could feel an undescribable warmth envelope her, as she could tell someone or rather, something was covering her.

Still in a frenzy, the princess gently flickered her eyelids open, and casted her fleeting gaze on a pair of majestic black wings, enclosing her from the intruder.

And the person who had these wings strapped to his back, was none other than the man with ferocious yellow tinted eyes, who gazed at the enemy with such a feral look, that Elena felt her head spin from confusion.

Had the king come to rescue her?
