CHAPTER 4
CHAPTER FOUR
Lauren Hill Cemetery was founded to bury and honor the dead Alphas, Betas, and Omegas that fought bravely and died in honor when the rogue werewolves attacked.
Relatives to the beareaved and visitors would come to pay their respect once in a while. Sometimes they enjoyed the grounds and the scenery. With elaborate monuments and attractive surroundings, Laurel Hill was among the unique spots to visit in Wales. It offered sweeping views of the Schuylkill River and lots of places to walk, bike, and enjoy nature.
Avyanna went to Lauren Hill every month, and anytime she needed to talk to someone. She missed her parents so much because those were the only people she grew up with until she met Ericson. Although the place reminded her about the day her parents died, it also brought good memories she had shared with them.
Her parents were her role models. She couldn't lack anything from them whenever she wanted something. They would always have something to say or an advise to give every time she was challenged with a problem.
"Mom, I stubbed my toe." She would cry in pain.
"Come let me take your pain away." Her mother would massage her legs until Avy felt no pain.
She relished in the safe feeling that her parents provided.
The day that the rogues attacked, was the same day as Vanessa's birthday and she threw a party on that day. Good friend Avyanna could never miss her friend's party, matter of fact, she was the chief planner alongside the celebrant, Vanessa. Everything was going as perfect as planned until one of the Gammas raised an alarm; "The rogues are approaching! We need to be alert."
Avyanna knew that nobody would alert her parents because of how secluded their residence was. Avy knew that she was the only one in the best position to do so.
"Quick! Everyone, we need to hide. Follow me." Vanessa yelled after the Gamma's alarm. Vanessa had an underground basement in her house where she told everyone that came for her party to stay until the rogues were gone but Avyanna snuck out to go and deliver the warning message to her parents.
The evening sky was orange and the moon could be seen peering behind the clouds, ready for the red sky to turn grey. Avy panted heavily as she raced to her parents house, carefully avoiding the rogues.
Unfortunately for Avy, when she arrived at her parents house, they were already battling with some rogues that had crept into their house when they were taking their nap. Most of the scoundrels Avy managed to avoid were wise enough to trail her foot prints down to her parent's house.
When her parents saw the rogues chasing behind Avy, they forced her to stay in her room, till the fight was over.
Her father took her by the arm and zoomed to her room, while her mother fended off the rogues from getting further into the house, "Trust me Avyanna, we are going to win this war like we always do. But for now I want you to stay inside, you're too young to engage in fights like this." Mr Windsor said before locking her in her room for safety. He then raced back to the living room to resume battling the rogues.
Mr. and Mrs. Windsor were strong Alpha's but the rogues were too many in number. The invincible Alphas were outnumbered and taken unawares so the odds were not in their favor. Their wounds got so deep and there wasn't enough time for them to heal properly.
Avyanna could sense that her parents couldn't fight alone and she tried to open the door that her father bolted but she couldn't.
"Mom! Dad!" She screamed as she kicked and banged the door. She tore at the door while she screamed, but the door wouldn't budge. In that moment, she wanted nothing more than to save her parents.
She cried when her attempt proved futile, but this didn't prevent her from kicking at the door. The only thing stronger than her jabs at the door was her willpower.
That moment, something in her snapped. Her strength and will brought out the wolf in her. The silent inner voice she seldom heard had come out in a wolf form to help. That was the day she first saw her wolf, Katie.
Katie tore down the doors with her paws and whooshed to the living room to help her parents. She tore at the living rogues, killing them instantly. That adrenaline from the first manifestation of one's wolf made Katie wilder than the regular wolf, even her parents.
As she ripped her opponents apart, a few of them fled the scene but that didn't stop her from raging on and killing every rogue that she could. After ripping them apart, and the dust and blood settled, she saw her parents in a pool of blood. Covered in scars and ridden with wounds that never healed. Avy was too late to save her parents.
Avyanna had always blamed herself for her parent's death, she thought that her parents would have never fought those number of rogues if she never left Vanessa's party and made the rogues follow her trail.
Avyanna sat in front of the gravestone reading the epitaph over and over again. She dropped the flowers she brought.
"Dad and Mom....", she began in a bold and confident tone. "I know that you can hear me even though you won't say anything. I don't want you to say anything, I just want you to listen to me. I know you saw Ericson as the perfect man in my life and that was what I felt too but I don't think he is that man anymore and I'm kinda confused at this point. He found his mate, a lady called Nancy. She is an evil in disguise and nobody knows that except me."
Avy paused to take a breather, she wanted to believe herself before she continued, "She took everything from me and murdered me in the past and I know that sounds crazy but guess what? The Moon Goddess gave me a second chance to come back and change things in my life. I wish she gave both of you a second life as well, I would be so grateful. I need a plan right now and I don't really know what to do, just give me a sign and tell me what to do." She breathed a sigh of relief, closing her eyes in that moment of peace where she had finally let everything out.
Avyanna opened her eyes, the hairs on her skin were rising up, she felt a presence that came with immense power surrounding her. Something diabolic lurked the shadows, there was no denying it.
Laurel Hills demarcated the Lycan territory from Wales. No ordinary wolf would dare cross it because the Lycans were the strongest wolves alive. They didn't like to interfere in other people's business, they were respected and highly feared. Only their power and scent could be so dominating and strong like that. Despite the instinct to run, Avy felt drawn to the ominous power that lurked in the shadows.
Then she heard the deep rumblings of a predatorial growl. Avyanna could sense trouble from afar and she needed her wolf in that moment to help her. "Katie are you there?" She whispered to her wolf but there wasn't any response.
"Katie I need your help right now, so please come out. I know I haven't had time to apologize for how I messed up in my past life but I am in danger and I really need your help right now." Still, there was no response from her wolf.
Ericson took Nancy to her new room. He had ordered new set of clothes and shoes for her. He wanted to take proper care of her. His mind wasn't at rest since Avyanna left the pack house. They never had to fight for long, if it was an issue disturbing them, they would always talk things through. But this particular fight was different. His conscience did not let him rest. He had broken his wife's trust even though Nancy was his mate. Avyanna had been a wonderful, loving and caring wife but he hurt her in return.
"It's not your fault. You did what any King would do." Henry consoled him.
"This is where you will be staying." Eric said to Nancy as she sat down on the bed.
The room was small, and well furbished. It smelled of cold and soot which was proof that the room had not been used for quite sometime. Even the bed creaked as Nancy sat on it. Apart from the fact that noone had used the room in a long time, the room was perfect for the mate of an Alpha to abide in.
As Eric turned to go, she held his hands, "please stay with me for a while, I'm scared because your people do not like me."
"Nothing will happen to you and nobody can harm or hurt you here except I say so." Ericson assured her.
"Can I ask you for a Favour?"
"Anything for my mate."
"Can I come to your room if I can't sleep?"
Ericson was taken back by the request because he wasn't expecting that soon. Nancy noticed his facial expression. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to annnoy you, it's just that some nights I get to have terrible nightmares that makes me so afraid."
"It's okay I understand. You're welcome to my room anytime. Just knock in case I am busy. I have other matters to attend to, I will let the chef bring your food to your room if that's okay with you."
"Thank you so much Alpha Ericson, I am grateful." She stood up from the bed hugging him as tears fell from her eyes.
"You don't need to cry Nancy, I will always be here for you. As for now you need to rest." He let go of her before he walked out of the room.
Nancy wiped her tears and smiled at herself for everything she had accomplished.
Avyanna pretended she didn't hear anything. She increased her pace as she walked back to the pack house. The dominant scent growing stronger like the person was following her. Since her wolf wasn't there to help, Avyanna didn't want to give whoever that was pursing her the impression that she was weak. She stopped and waited but no one came out. The feeling of being drawn to the scent engulfed her again, making her approach with extra caution.
She peered into the shadows trying to make sense of what or who followed her. She saw nothing, just the eerie feeling of a diabolic apparition peering at her from the shadows. An apparition that for some reason she wanted nothing more than to see and touch it.
"Who is there?" She asked, feigning boldness.
No response, just the flutter of the wind which creeped her out. She was left with no other choice but to give in to her instincts and run.
