WHO JOKES WITH A SERIOUS FACE?

Alpha Enrique thought back to Licia's frail body. It wouldn't even take him two seconds to break her into two pieces, but she fearlessly stood up against him. He closed his eyes in annoyance. He didn't like stubborn women, but there was something about her that he couldn't hate.

"Enough with this nonsense. We're already running late," he said, clearing his mind of his thoughts.

As soon as the Alpha stepped out, he saw Licia's shadow running out of the door with a reddened face. Reed joked, "She's still too shy to see us naked."

"Silly woman!" he said before looking at the neatly pressed clothes, polished shoes, and his cleaned sword arranged on the bed. The man was impressed. Despite having all these slaves, none of them ever did this for him. He had to arrange his things himself. He dressed up and came downstairs to have breakfast together.

The dining table was awkwardly silent, making the maids puzzled. They were sure they saw the Alpha sneaking into her room last night. Did... nothing happen between the two? After an awkwardly silent meal, Licia followed the man to his stable.

The man asked her to wait while he went into the stable. Her wolf took this opportunity to comment, "Isn't our mate a hunk?"

"He is. I won't deny."

"Then why are you having your guards up around him? He is our mate," Brie asked, confused.

Licia calmly replied, "Because the one thing that I've learned all my life is not to trust anyone, even family."

Licia's attention was flung when she heard a loud neigh coming from the stable. She turned her head to see Alpha Enrique lead out a black horse. She stood stunned for a while, admiring the magnificent creature in front of her.

Licia couldn't conceal the excitement in her voice as she asked, "Are we riding a horse?"

"Yes!" the Alpha answered blandly.

"I see!" Licia was thinking how it had been a while since she had ridden a horse and how fun it would be to ride one again.

Alpha Enrique caught the girl in a daze, looking at his horse with gleaming eyes. He said, "I'm sorry that it's not a carriage. You must be disappointed that our castle doesn't even have a horseman."

"What?" She was stunned by his comment and explained herself hurriedly lest he misunderstand her, "No, I didn't mean it like that. I like horses! No, I love horses without a carriage."

Alpha Enrique chuckled, seeing her nervous. He turned around and started petting his horse. "I see."

Licia was rendered speechless. Did this man just joke with her? She clutched her racing heart and wondered, who jokes with such a serious and scary face?

Alpha Enrique swiftly climbed up on the horse and stretched his arms towards her. "We're already late. Hurry up and get on."

Licia gazed up at the man. Despite his stoic expression, he was undeniably handsome. Timidly, she reached out to take his hand. Was this what people referred to as a 'Knight in Shining Armor'? The man effortlessly lifted her up as if she were a mere feather, and she found herself seated in front of him. His hands were still tightly gripping her waist as their eyes met, sending a flurry of butterflies through her stomach. "Thank you for helping me up," Licia said meekly.

Alpha Enrique stared at her for a moment before saying, "Let's go."

As they rode toward the town, Licia couldn't help but reflect on the events of the previous day. To her surprise, he was initiating conversations and even joking with her. Given his monstrous reputation from the night before, she never expected him to have a gentle side.

The town they arrived at was in ruins. Houses were burnt to the ground, children sat on the ground in worn-out clothes, and townspeople scavenged for anything that could help their families. Licia couldn't hide her shock. "How did this happen?"

Alpha Enrique explained, "This part of the Kingdom was left unsupervised; no security was assigned during the way which gave the thieves a chance to plunder it." He paused there and sighed, "I was expecting it to be bad but not to this extent."

The situation was worse than he expected. Since this pack had merged with Ravenwood, it was his responsibility to oversee it. Alpha Enrique doubted that even with additional resources, he could restore the town entirely. If only this land had been taken care of, the story might have been different.

"Tch!" he exclaimed, getting off his horse. "Seems like we won't be able to find a dress here."

"It's fine, I don't need a dress," Licia replied, jumping off the horse and landing on her feet without assistance. Alpha Enrique couldn't help but feel suspicious.
