Chapter FOUR

Achilles could hardly focus on the work that was piled up before him. He had business deals to sign, contracts to prepare and many other issues to resolve, but at that moment,he couldn't focus on anything. Memories of what happened in the woods last night kept replaying in his mind. Whenever he tried to visualize what those rogues would've done to that girl if he had not intervened, chills ran down his spine.

They would've killed her.

He would have lost a subject last night.

The girl looked very frightened and vulnerable. She couldn't even defend herself or run away from the rogues.

The clothes she had on looked so obsolete and her hair was thoroughly disheveled. He could tell that she wasn't living a very comfortable life and he wondered why because he always made sure every household in his pack was comfortable. He provided his subjects with jobs that enabled them to earn enough money to cater for themselves.

Why then did the girl from last night look so impoverished and dreary?

A knock at his office door snapped him out of his thoughts and when he signaled whoever it was to come in, the door screeched open and Diana gracefully walked in with an intense expression plastered on her face. He immediately knew why she had come and heaved out a heavy sigh of frustration as he closed the pile of documents before him and set aside.

"Can we talk?" Diana inquired as she took a firm pose before him and he perked up at her with his fingers intertwined on the table.

Most times, he wondered if Diana was really his younger sister because of the way she was fun of commanding him around. Anything she wanted, she got. She always made him do the impossible and that did nothing but baffle him most at times. She always had her way with him and he was entirely helpless before her.

"Diana, it's not like you are going to go away of I say no."

"I'm glad you know that" Diana admitted as she made herself comfortable on the seat opposite his, still giving him a sharp stare straight in the eyes.

"Here to talk about the marriage issue, I guess"

"Justly thought, rightly said. You asked for some time to think about it. I believe last night and this morning was more than enough time for you to do that" She asserted boldy as she kept staring daggers at him and Achilles looked at her truly awed.

She was everything like their grandmother.

Assertive, fearless and authoritative.

If she had been his elder sister, she would definitely have been the Alpha of the pack, not him.

"Diana, will you stop giving me that kind of menacing look? I don't have any ideas of saying no to you. I am going to find a wife, all I need is more time to prepare myself. You very well know marriage is not a lenient matter"

"It's not my intention to pressurize you, brother. It's grandma who keeps insisting. She wouldn't tell me why she so much wants you to get married, she just keeps insisting I make it happen as soon as possible"

"I get you honey, I get you." He said bowing his head down with his eyes closed and for a brief second, the girl from last night flashed on his mind again, causing him to open his eyes unexpectedly.

Diana peeked at him worried.

"Is anything the matter?"

"No… I mean… yes, I mean…." Deep sigh. "Never mind, it is nothing I can't handle." He brushed it off.

He thought of telling Diana about it, but on a second note, he decided that would be a superfluous thing to do.

Saving a girl in the woods was nothing worth fuzzing over.

"Are you sure?" Diana pursued and he nodded his head as he rubbed his forehead with his fingers.

The thought of getting married was doing a lot of things to his body. Things he could not decipher.

"This is what you are going to do '' He eventually declared as he gave Diana a piercing stare. "I'm going to organize a majestic party in this castle and I need you to send invitation cards to all households in this pack. Invite every young girl from eighteen and above and make it known to them that I will be choosing my bride from amongst them on that day." He deciphered with all seriousness and his sister gave him a powerful gaze that scared him. He squatted backwards on his chair and reciprocated the powerful gaze.

"What? Isn't this what you wanted? You were supposed to be yelling in excitement by now"

"Don't get me wrong Ace, I am excited. I'm just absolutely intrigued by how competently you always address matters. A while back, I could vow you had no idea how to go about this whole issue, little did I know you had everything extrapolated already. I'm impressed"

"So, am I supposed to be honoured that you are intrigued by my manner of doing things?"

"Well, you should" she retorted in a proud tone that made her brother snort. "Don't you dare snort at me. I'm the great witch and just one wave of my hand will have you turned into a vegetable"

"You can't turn your beloved brother into a vegetable, honey"

"Ugh… speaking of brothers, have you talked with Alex?" She inquired and Achilles shook his head.

Alexander was their eldest brother. He was also known as an adventurer.

Normally, he was supposed to be the Alpha of the pack, but he renounced his title the moment he turned ten years-old. He had told his father; he wanted to be an adventurer. To explore the entire world and his father granted him his wish.

That was when Achilles was then crowned the future Alpha of the pack.

"That rascal never picks up his damn calls and I cannot communicate with him through mindlink and that means he is far away from here. He's gonna come around"

"You do know that we need him right?"

"For what exactly?"

"Ace, grandma is trying to prepare us for our revenge and redemption. Don't you smell a war? Do you honestly think Alpha D'argan will just let us be once he finds out everything is fine with us once more? This is a war arising and we need Alex to be here with us" She explained in a troubled tone and Achilles playfully thumped his finger nails on the table as he looked at her.

She had a point.

There was a war coming.

Alexander was the second strongest werewolf in the pack after him, so they needed him. He had to find a way to get to him ASAP.

"I have heard you, sister. I will do all I can to get to our brother. I will fill him in on the latest developments and I believe he will head home once he hears about this. Thank you for the reminder"

"You are welcome." She said as she rose up from her seat. "I need to get the invitations ready."

"You should, because the party has to be held tomorrow night."

"What?" She asked astounded.

"You heard me right. If you don't mind, please excuse me now. I need to get back to work." He feigned a focused look on the pile of papers before him and Diana left the office utterly and completely mystified.

The moment she closed the door behind her, Achilles abruptly raised up his head and let out a heavy sigh he didn't even know he was holding.

The last thing he wanted was to start a controversy with Diana.

He looked down at the papers once more and the only thing that came to his mind was the girl from last night.

The only thing that could stop him from thinking about that girl was for him to organize that party and have her attend so he could see her again.
