Chapter 2
"Ma'am your presence is needed in the backyard," the maid announced.
"Who is calling me?" She inquired frustrated.
Can't they give her time to be alone for once?
"Ma'am Abigael, big boss Amos and ma'am Jedidah," she informed her, and Alma panicked.
Did something go wrong? When she left everything was going on smoothly? She started regretting coming back to the room as she had just embarrassed and disappointed the whole family with her ignorance.
"After you," Alma told her but she didn't move an inch.
"Hey, I thought I said I'm coming after you,"
"Ma'am Abigael said I shouldn't go without you,"
This was more serious than she thought. What could have gone so wrong to make her say that? She wanted to ask the maid but knowing fully well how such gossip will spread in the mansion, she preferred to shut her mouth instead.
The serious faces that she met made her panic reducing her steps. She left the maid with her work inside so she had no shield against the glares she received from her mother-in-law that were digging daggers through her skin deep into her body.
"Good evening mum, dad, Jedidah," she addressed the three of them calmly and pulled a seat but none of them replied to her greetings.
"You did a good job in planning all this, it is a success," Amos started.
"Can't he say thank you?" She thought to herself.
This is not the first time as she has never heard him say that. Two words are missing in his dictionary, thank you and I'm sorry.
Since the first day she was introduced into the family, the only thing he can say is you tried. He deserves a medal this time for acknowledging she did a good job.
She would have celebrated but with their faces, it's not time to celebrate yet.
"Thank you," she appreciated with her smile.
Her mom did a good job in training her.
"As we all know, there is a coming election and we all want the best for Joshua especially we the family. We want him to win," he continued but those words struck her.
Does he mean she isn't part of the family? She will revisit that later because the last time she checked, they all treated her nicely. Is that how they treat strangers?
"I also want him to win, he is my husband," she defended herself.
"I accepted you in my family because my son loves you and you are young ao I was expecting by now to see at least a grandchild around but unfortunately you aren't using your time rightly," Abigael interrupted.
"Can you let me handle this?" Amos asked her.
"You are wasting time, instead of going straight to the point," Abigael replied.
"You should give this family a grandchild to help my son win the election. If he has a child, everyone will know he is responsible and vote for him. If you love my son the way you claim then you have less than a year to give him a child and your time starts tonight," Abigael announced making her speechless.
The last thing she wants is to be on this family's bad book as the world won't be able to contain all of them but what they are asking her is impossible. She can't make a child on her own and Joshua wasn't interested in a child anytime soon.
"That is all we wanted to say and don't disappoint us," Abigael warned and she nodded with a fake smile.
There is nothing else she could do apart from a smile.
"Excuse me," she excused herself and went back to the garden to look for Joshua.
They needed to talk because she can't be the one being blamed for everything including their lack of children.
She had a lot in her mind that she couldn't see where she was going and bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry," she apologized.
"It's okay, I beg to leave. I honored the invitation of our First Lady," Quincy said and she blushed.
"Thank you for coming, drive safely," she answered with a smile.
"See you soon," He smiled back and walked away.
She spotted Josh talking to his friends and was ready to leave when he called her.
"All this was made possible by her," he told his friends when she got closer.
"Next time I have an event, I'll call her to help," one of his friends said and she just smiled.
"I'll see the guests off," she excused herself and thanked each guest she came across for coming.
"Have you seen Tamara?" She asked Erica who was drinking wine.
"She left, I know I have offended you I always offend you. My husband said my problem is my choice of words. Put everything behind and listen to this. Be careful with Tamara. Don't say you weren't told," Erica advised.
"What has she done?"
"I know you have known her longer than me but please be careful don't be so transparent with her. Somethings that happen in your life, keep them to yourself. If you don't believe me then test her. Tell her you fought with Josh then cry on her shoulder. After she leaves spy on Josh's phone for two days," Erica suggested.
"I'll try it out,"
It won't hurt to try after all they are going to fight.
"It's getting late, I have to go, " Erica bid her goodbye and left.
It was getting late already and the words she was told kept on ringing in her mind.
She went to the room and spread Rose flowers around the room. She lit candles and took a bottle of wine with two glasses and placed them on the table in the room. She took a shower and changed into something sexy then sat on the bed waiting for him.
After seeing off all the guests, he headed to the room to have a rest. It was a long day and he was happy it turned out to be a success.
Alma got down from the bed and helped him with his coat seducing him.
"I'm tired and all I need right now is rest," he pushed her away slightly and her face fell.
"I want a baby," she said sitting at the age of the bed.
"We have talked about this, we will have a baby but right now I'm not complaining,"
"You are always busy I want someone to keep me company. I only want one child, is that too much to ask?"
"What has gotten over you? I don't have time to take care of a child,"
"In my statement did I mention you? I'll take care of the child myself,"
"Not today, my day was good don't spoil it, please,"
She picked one pillow and headed to the door.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"I'll sleep in the guestroom," she replied.
"Why? My parents are here, do you know what they'll think of me? I chased my wife out of the room?"
"Not your wife, your sister because she was horny and you didn't want to commit an abomination," she interrupted and he sighed.
"Do I stink? Two years of marriage Josh, two years, and I can count how many times you have touched me," She added showing him her two fingers.
"Don't go, let me take a shower first," he stopped her and she smiled. She sat on the bed anticipating the best night of her life but when he came out of the bathroom, he started pulling the drawers.
"Are you looking for something?" She asked.
"I had some things in this drawer, did you take?" He asked and she laughed.
"Am I a whore to you? You want to use protection? With me? Your wife? I flashed them in the toilet. You know what? All this, Is nonsense. Once you start seeing me as your wife and not a whore, let me know," she stood up and left the room.
She was tired and fed up. This wasn't what she bargained for when she said "yes I do," on the altar.
