Chapter 6
“Thank you,” she appreciated few minutes later wiping away her tears. She felt a bit relieved, a quarter of her burdens gone away with the tears.
“Why are you always crying?”
“Some things in life, words can’t explain. Thank you for your shoulder, it is a rare opportunity to cry on someone like you,” she chuckled at her own words.
“Let’s go for a walk?” he suggested getting up.
“I’m the first lady, I’m married, you are a celebrity if we are seen together we will be on the headlines tomorrow, the last thing I want right now is a scandal, I have enough on my plate, a scandal will kill me,” she responded.
“I also don’t need one right now, come join me in my car. I’ll be waiting for you in the car, don’t take long,” he walked away to his car.
This was only an excuse but what he really wanted was an alone time with her, he had so many questions to ask her to clear his confusions, his puzzle wasn’t adding up and maybe she was the missing piece he has been looking for.
Alma looked around then went after him, there was no way she was going to trust the media with her tomorrow, she would be ruined before she sees the sun rise. She sat in the passenger seat and Quincy started the car not uttering a word.
She rested her head back on the chair trying to imagine where he could be taking her that people aren’t there. This is the price she pays daily for being Josh’s wife. He stopped the car after a while then took shades and a cap from the back seat and handed to her.
“Just to be safe, they know me around, it’s better to be said I was seen with an unknown girl than to be seen with you. That’s my apartment, my car will be taken away, let’s go,’ he got down and went to open the door for her leading her to the gate.
“I can now breathe, I didn’t know I can still play hide and seek at my age,” she joked dropping the cap and glasses on the couch when they got inside.
“It’s a good thing you can still joke, what is really troubling?”
“Once we are friends, I can explain some embarrassing things. Marriage isn’t easy as it looks,” she shrugged dropping on the couch.
“Can I offer you anything?”
“You already offered me your shoulder, I have nothing else to ask for,”
“I have some questions, how did you end up with Josh or whatever he calls himself?”
“Three years ago, we met in a party. Politicians had a conference and I was among the dancers who were entertained them that was the first time I was meeting her then I met him the second time when we had gone to the province with Tamara my friend. He had gone to donate stuff, as they say the rest is history,” she explained.
“Four years ago, I was involved in an accident and someone told me you were with me in the car,”
“My mom said I was with a guy but she didn’t go into details, I lost my memory to but mom said I should let bygones be bygones. Being in the car with you, I guess that explains why I have this feeling that I know you from somewhere,”
“Can you ask your mom to tell you your past?”
“That’s an impossible mission, my mom won’t. Do you have any hard drink? I need it,”
“You can’t handle a hard drink,”
“My husband gives me stress, my mother-in-law will give me depression very soon then you? What will you give me? You will actually kill me,”
“Just a moment before I get into your black book,” he went to his bar and brought her bottle and a glass but she only took the bottle leaving him with the glass drinking from the bottle.
“Huh?”
“Do you think I’m dirty?” she hiccupped.
“You are drank, give me that,” he tried taking the bottle from her but she refused and continued drinking that he had to take it forcefully from her.
“My mother-in-law wants a kid before the coming elections but that isn’t the problem, the problem is Josh doesn’t touch so tell me, will the baby fall from heaven or will I drink pregnancy from a cup of coffee?” she asked in sobs.
“Calm down, we will talk tomorrow once you are sober because I don’t understand anything you are saying. We need to call your friend to tell her that you are sleeping over, how have you saved her?”
“Erica? She is a true friend. Should I tell you something about her? She can’t lie, it will burn her like hell fire the only problem is her choice of words. You know the truth is bitter but you can coat it up a bit for it not to hurt that much,”
“How have you saved her contact? What is your password?”
He was asking a different thing and she was blabbering different things.
“Why did I give you the drink? Now see what I’m going through,” he mumbled to himself.
“Do I also irritate you?” she sobbed.
“You don’t irritate me, come I take you to the guestroom,”
He helped her up only for her to vomit on his suit.
“Next time, stay hundred meters away from alcohol, it’s not good for your health. What will I do with you and your clothes? God, when its this girl, I always get into trouble,” he complained and held her heading upstairs.
“Can you love someone like me? Josh thinks I’m dirty, what do you think?”
“You are not dirty, let’s get this mess on you cleaned first then you have rest,”
He took her to the bathroom and set the bathtub for her to have a bath. With closed eyes he helped her with her clothes then made her settle in the bathtub.
“The towel is hanged there,” he pointed to the wall.
“I’ll put this clothes in the laundry be praying they get dried before morning,’ he added and left the bathroom.
The water helped her sober up a bit and after the bath she went to the room expecting a cloth on the bed but there was none. She decided to sleep with the towel on instead.
“Are you done?” Quincy asked stepping into the room.
“Yes, I’m done, can you join me, if you don’t mind, please,” she pouted and he found himself obliging with thinking twice of the consequences of what he was doing.
His mind knew what he was doing was wrong but there was this power coming from within that he just couldn’t control.
“Can you kiss me?”
“No, you are a married woman and you deserve my respect if not for anything then for that tag,”
“You also see me as dirty, you should be man enough to let me know,” she cried.
“God please, it’s a harmless kiss,” he thought to himself and decided to kiss her.
